The hate for Neil is real

I just came here to say that Twitter sucks. The active users aren't representative of the general population, and the actions of users aren't representative of actions in real life.

It psychologically rewards tribalism and supports escalation without any hope of healthy resolution.

It's seriously, seriously not a good thing for individuals or society.
Well I'm on the front lines of the good fight. Pray for me, please!

I kinda want to see if Chauncey can turn Simons into more of a PG. He's been credited with improving Kawhi's, PG's, and Reggie Jackson's playmaking.
The word on him coming into the league and his first couple of seasons was that he didn't distribute the ball well and was a scoring guard in a point guard's body... back when that was a thing people said.

“Blazer fans will be patient.”

Says Neil, in year #9 on the job.

they can hate him, thats all they can do

street cant run the club

The worst part about twitter isn't the people who use it, it's the people who run it. It's not hard to notice the utter bias and hypocrisy in which rules are applied and discussion is steered and censorship is enacted. It's not a left/right divide either, it's a corporate oligarchy/populist divide and the vast majority can't even recognize it. Reddit is even worse for the same reasons.

Yep and both Facebook and Youtube are following that lead. Corporate Oligarchs vs. everyone else.

I think if you weeded out the bots it would be a lot better. There are some seriously funny people on Twitter, and they're just people (well, they start out that way but then get book deals/hired to writers' rooms).

it's actually year #10

For me it's 45 years......I was 23 when we won it all...if trading Andre Miller for Raymond Felton didn't lose me...nothing will....my worst Blazer season we let Oden and Roy go...fired Nate..tried to make Jamal Crawford a pt guard...watched Felton jiggle and dribble off his foot and the highlight of the season was Luke Babbitt getting the crowd chalupas....this offseason is a breath of fresh air and I'm a Stotts fan..we didn't actually have a GM that season..Chad was interim stand in

I am a life long Blazers fan, 35+ years, but I don't understand how any fan or front office can be ok with not LEGITIMATELY competing for a championship AT LEAST every 5-10 years. And if you thought you were going to compete for a championship and didn't come close then it's time for a major re-work of the lineup. Otherwise what's the point? As a fan I shouldn't have to wonder if I am going to see a championship before I die. That's unacceptable. And yet we press on as fans because thats what being a fan is all about. We hold up our end of the bargain just to have the front office let us down time and again. It's really hard not to blame Dame if he gets to that point.

Having the franchise player demand changes or he leaves and then the GM doing nothing is... a breath of fresh air? Am I reading that right?

This is extreme LA smog.

well you're exaggerating because Lillard has not even come close to demanding a trade...that's your LA smog...straight from Jeannie Buss and the rumor mill....yeah..I'm not pissed at the franchise for improving the bench and moving on ...as much as I liked Terry, I am a Chauncey fan so I'm on board there....I don't think what your selling helps the Blazers a bit ... seems you just are hell bent on torches and pitchforks Stren....you can read what you like into my posts...for one...none of this stuff is so goddamned serious to begin with...it's a game...enjoy it..if Neil loses his job it won't bother me for a second...hasn't bothered me for a decade one way or another...he's like the Blazer accountant and he's replaceable..I've enjoyed the hell out of Blazer hoops for 45 years...ups and downs...I'm still enjoying them..as I said before...have a lollypop and buy some sunscreen

I just asked a simple question for clarification.

Never said it was serious. Slept 9 hours had a great morning. I can compartmentalize. It's fantastic. I can say what I need to say and move on. It's beautiful, really. Doesn't effect me at all AND I get to have an opinion? Fuck yeah!

no...you said Dame demanded a trade...I clarified it.. It's my birthday today so excuse me if I don't feel like arguing much.

You're totally right, Dame said that he didn't demand a trade. However, he then did promptly say that he hadn't made up his mind where his future would be. You said you've watched the interview multiple times. How on earth, after watching that presser, do you not come to the conclusion that if the team doesn't improve significantly, Dame will feel like he has to go somewhere else to win a championship? It's clear as day and not open to interpretation. How long the team has is open to interpretation but saying urgent or urgency like ten times doesn't give the impression that he is willing to wait for very long at all.

I'm not a big fan of Olshey, but I'm not a passionate hater either. We'll let his record speak for itself.

Zach Collins
Traded 2017 pick #15 and pick #20 for pick #10
(passed on Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adebayo, John Collins, and Jarrett Allen)
We mustn't forget that he drafted Damian Lillard. And he traded for Jusuf Nurkic. Here's a quoted from Olshey after the Nurk trade:
"We are pleased to add a young center with Jusuf’s talent and potential to our roster and excited by the prospect of three first round picks to the 2017 NBA draft"
He was more excited about getting that draft pick than he was about Nurk. At least he spun that pick into Zach Collins.

I really liked Gary Trent Jr and was sad when he was traded. But Powell really impressed me. I'm very pleased that he resigned with the Blazers. In my eyes, that trade makes CJ the odd man out. All can be 'forgiven' for Olshey's past sins if he's able to spin the 'CJ asset' into a starting caliber forward. If not, ...

What we mustn't forget about how Dame was drafted is that it was three weeks after Olshey started the job and the scouting and coaching staff had already worked Dame out twice. That wasn't a pick Olshey gets credit for but CJ was a really solid pick that was Olshey's for sure. If you go back and look at what Neil had to say about Nurk when we got him, it's very clear he didn't think much of that acquisition either. The Gary trade paid off plain and simple. He traded Gary for a player who is better now and whose timeline fits with Dame's... then he re-signed him on a brilliant deal. Letting LaMarcus walk for nothing and all of the horrible shit you just highlighted combined with his lack of one move that could be considered big and good makes it so I'll never be cool with him still having the job. With that said, he does have the job and as long as he does I'll be rooting for him to do the best job possible and buck his trend of sucking.

no...you said Dame demanded a trade...
Inaccurate. Stren never said Dame demanded a trade. He said Dame demanded changes. I would agree with Stren that Dame saying:
  • he wants to win a championship;
  • the roster is not a championship roster;
  • he hasn't made any decisions about his future
equates to Dame demanding changes. You disagree?

The main reason for that trade is because he needed to get something out of Plumlees contract before it was to expire because in typical Olshey fashion we didn’t have the money to offer him because we had too much tied up in Crabbe, Leonard and Turner.

Happy Birthday! I know I question if you're too optimistic sometimes but your contributions here are really great and you're always respectful. I hope you have a really great day and get to celebrate.

Yeah, he was very blunt about the fact that he was more excited about the first round pick than he was about the disgruntled center that he hoped could turn things around.

Shit, was Evan Turner who was technically a SF our last decent bench PG?

I mean he could facilitate an offense pretty dang good on the fly

Happy birthday!

We aren't arguing. Lol. The facts are there.

Platy already said what I would have said.

Another key thing he did is getting Dame to sign his supermax the moment he was extension eligible. Were it not for that, we might have been looking down the barrel of a Dame free agency or Dame leveraging his tenuous future here to leave a year earlier.

Having the franchise player demand changes or he leaves
uh...I think it's right here..the "he leaves" means trade since he's under contract so I stand by my statement
