Not exaggerating. These Knicks didn't use to be these Knicks. They actually had good players and resources and made so many splash moves that they killed their ability to respond to any personnel adversity.
So, you trade CJ, Nurk and two of your next three first-round picks for AD, who decides he doesn't want to sign with the Blazers after one year in Portland. The Blazers let pretty much every other free agent walk this year and next to get AD on the roster. Dame, now really almost 30 and being forced to do everything to keep the team close to the eight spot in the playoffs, gets beaten up. He starts missing more games from injuries. By the time he's 33, we're always drafting in the top 10, but our ownership no longer is putting money into a team that's not competitive.
Kind of what happened to the Knicks that put them where they are now, except they kept trying to buy wins. They panicked year after year.
