I'm sad for the state of our nation, but, I'm going to channel my inner Aragorn and say now is not the time to be faint-hearted. Or maybe Reiner Braun and say I must be the warrior with no road left to follow except the one that leads to the end.

Anyway, the bottom line is this, Biden was a disappointment to me tonight, although I thought he improved as the debate went on. There's no way I can stand passively as an American and not do my part to see Donald Trump does not return to the White House. I honestly feel that would be the end of the grand experiment that is the United States. All the values we often pretended our nation stood for would go completely out the window and once gone wouldn't be coming back. I have no children, but I can't let future generations live through that without fighting to my last breath. I very much believe this.

I'll hold my nose and vote for Biden because Trump's stench is infinitely worse. I'll vote for the Dems replacement if they choose to risk switching candidates (and I have no idea who they'd go to -- as weird as it sounds Michelle Obama is the first person that came to mind that I thought would beat Trump). Whatever they do, the Dems need to come out strongly and unified, because this isn't the time to bicker over differences that compared to the future of our democracy as minuscule. You aren't going to have an opportunity to protest for Israel or Palestine or whatever the issue is when we have minority rule and SCOTUS being 7-2 or 8-1 conservative.

Well, there's the thing. The left-wingers on the CNN panel all were saying they were getting calls by Dems in a panic.

Contrast that to the GOP, which stands firmly behind someone who incited an insurrection and stands for almost nothing by which the American right identified itself in 2015.

The DNC runs scared too easily. It never plays to its strength. It's always playing defense. IMO, that's why it so often loses despite better policies and a proven track record of doing things that help more Americans.

Biden won this debate on policy and lost it on appearance. It's not ... check that, IT SHOULDN'T BE viewed as a clear defeat because Trump is unlikeable and untrustworthy and just reinforced that tonight and 1980 Christie Brinkley isn't a candidate in this race. The Dem leadership needed to take a page out of the Mitch McConnell/Kevin McCarthy playbook and just pretend the bad stuff didn't happen and present a strong, resolute front.

Instead, they're calling Peter King and Van Jones and saying the end of the world is nigh and we need to change horses in midstream.

This is a case where, as much as it might fly in the face of reason, you need to lead and you need to make your constituents feel this was at worst a minor defeat that wasn't the end of the world. Instead, their reaction is going to have all Dem and anti-Trump independent voters acting like they're in a dark theater and someone yelled fire.

I know you are pro-Trump or at least anti-Biden, beast. Obviously, I am very anti-Trump, but I'm trying to be as dispassionate as one can be about things.

I want RFK JR to win. I just think it's funny how quickly CNN turned on Biden. They've been protecting him for years. Many who are in certain information bubbles haven't been exposed to Biden trying to speak. Those that listen to right leaning sources hear it all the time, because they use it to make fun of Biden.

Anyway, we have much bigger problems. But this was so sad/pathetic/funny....

I’m not a Republican, but I’m honestly pretty apathetic to all of it. It’s all such an embarrassment that I’ve given in and I’m more or less just invested in it for entertainment and comical relief.

Makes me wonder if Biden will step aside. This could be why we’re seeing debates so early, they wanted to see how things go before it’s too late to run someone else if things look bad, which they absolutely do.
They’d be smart to run someone else, as soon as possible.

I don’t know. When the mockingbird media begins to assert a narrative we generally see that agenda rolled out. These mainstream sources are basically in lock step with the national security apparatus so i honestly think the memo has been sent and the democratic establishment will now begin operation “throw biden under the bus”. Unless of course they deem him useful as a manchurian shell of a human being, which is entirely possible. It’s been working so far.

I don't know why Biden even agreed to this debate. His base had to witness something they had been sheltered from, in the information bubbles that have attempted to hide/gaslight them from the fact that Biden as not mentally competent anymore.

I've been trying to tell lefties this for years and they act like it's some kind of right wing conspiracy.

I'm pretty sure the DNC is trying to figure out a way to replace Biden. He had this deer in headlights look all night.

I'm a journalist. CNN isn't nearly as bad as the right presents it. It always has dissenting voices on the right an doesn't fact check them too hard. It even swung hard to the right for a few months a couple of years ago before swinging back.

If Biden was as bad as OAN, etc. presented him, they wouldn't be cropping video of him speaking to skydivers that just landed a few feet from him to make it seem like he was talking to no one.

However, I guess the biggest thing is this ... whether you think a news agency is shielding Biden, right now we have an entire political party trying to protect a candidate they know tried to halt the peaceful transfer of power and has said he'll do things along those lines again, except, this time, all the checks and balances will be eliminate to stop him ... he's learned from his mistakes. That overrides anything else anyone should think about who you are voting for.

It is sad and pathetic, but I don't find it funny as much as terrifying. People who vote for Trump in November could be among his targets by February, because this is a person without an ideology except to enrich himself. If you stand against him for any reason, you because his enemy and his target, and he'll have a large group of people trying to stay on his unpredictable good side that are willing to step on former allies just to remain in his good graces.

But we have to quit this delusional game of make believe, pretending the two are both suffering from the same level of cognitive decline. One of them is way, way worse and we all know who it is.

Yeah, I don't think Newsom is ready yet. Michelle Obama is unthreatening, graceful and has broad appeal, even though she isn't versed in politics. I don't think she'd want to do it, but sometimes duty forces one to do something they don't want to do. And she stands to lose much if Trump were to return to the White House. That would be strong motivation.

I think she's the most powerful political force in the world if she wants to be.

Yep, CNN will always telegraph what the establishment wants to do. Anyone that cares about the Democrats being in power should want Biden to step down. I still think there's some chance Trump himself is just as much a part of the establishment as anyone, and the attacks on him are some kind of charade to keep the public distracted/divided.

Based on this debate sure, but I have seen Trump be just as cognitively bad.

That said, I wish the Democratic candidate was someone else. I will still vote for Biden though over Trump.

I know Newsome is preparing for the next election, but he is probably the best choice the Democrats have outside Michelle who doesn't want to run and has said that. Though, seeing Trump on the path back to the Whitehouse might change her mind.

Biden was terrible in the first part of the debate before I tuned out. Trump was terrible but all he had to do was smirk and say, " I don't know what he just said but I don't think he did either...if Trump can do anything , it's insult his adversaries. I think Joe should bring in a replacement candidate after this deebate...he looks exhausted. Dems need some young blood to lead their party. Trump is just clearly clueless and a compulsive liar. I'll watch the end later but Joe didn't help himself in the beginning of this debate.

I don't think either of them have dementia. Both are looking and sounding their age. Trump is a narcissist and fascist who this country cannot afford to have again as president.

I do think Biden should have not ran for re-election, but he is still a better candidate than Trump. I do wonder if he can win. Trump has been doing well and raising tons of money... He is quite the con man.

The debate for Trump was nothing but exaggeration to the greatest degree, lie after lie, projection, and fearmongering.

Biden did not have a good debate. But his policy points were good. He stuttered and lost track a few times, but made good points. He got better as he went, not that that means a whole lot for this debate. Apparently, he is suffering from a cold. If so, or whatever the case, he needs to come back strong in a follow up debate because this one hurt confidence in him and helped Trump and the right.

In the end though, it's about the future of our country, not a joke like some here portend. Have to keep fighting for that future.
