Chauncey "Elephant In The Room" Billups
Not mid season. This is a throw away season anyway and everyone knew this start of training camp. All the vets are good as gone and most likely coach too. Let this just continue on and next season is the fresh start with Flagg as our starting PF/SFI don't know, that's the GM's job. I liked Stotts, didn't want to get rid of him. I personally don't mind Billups either but it's clear that change is needed.
.553 (494/893) not Blazers
Anybody who has those qualities JUST started their own season.Somebody with a great record of developing players. There are plenty of people out there. Plenty of guys overseas, as well. I'd be alright with Stotts, frankly.
But anybody who is a proven talent developer that you can get. An overall, perhaps as head coach, perhaps let a different guy be the head coach. Then the best developmental PG person, wing person, and post person. Pay them whatever it takes to get them and the ideal staff to support them. Do whatever it takes to help them develop players. Structure games as developmental opportunities, rather than opportunities for wins.
But this sounds like the people who were all for firing Stotts….. what’s new ownership going to do? You can guess and hope, but you have no clue FAMS!Bottom line: We need new owners asap.
You still selling cars bro?First it was lousy hire he shouldn't been the coach if you was going to tear down roster. Plus you can't every year trying to high draft pick because loosing is contagious. Look at Detroit and the nets and others there always in the lottery last 5 plus years. This game was the first really bad game of year that's actually happened to every team here and there. But I believe they got some good young players but right now they got to many individuals players. You might keep billups until the end of season and get rid those players that not going to play with team instead against the team.
Disagree. They are out there and available, we just need to find them.Anybody who has those qualities JUST started their own season.
Need Phil Knight, IMO. He only offered $2 billion, though. Needs to up it to $4 bils. But this sounds like the people who were all for firing Stotts….. what’s new ownership going to do? You can guess and hope, but you have no clue FAMS!
That's why I want Billups gone right now. They could even bring in a guy who wouldn't make a good head coach but could teach these guys how to play right. Work with some drills that might not help them win right now but would get them to rotate quickly on defense, and have some kind of rudimentary offensive plan at least, Work with the young guys on fundamentals and skill development either individually or in groups of two or three,

Who takes over then for Chauncey that will develop this young talent?
This was the point during Stotts tenure where people kept typing, “Anybody is better.”
I was actually just thinking of a guy for the rest of the season, a development specialist, wouldn't even have to be the acting head coach.I agree, but it is pointless if Ant/Grant are still on the roster. It is obvious they do not want to be in Portland, and I seriously doubt many want them in Portland. Portland will not be able to get a decent, reputable coach. They need to get lucky, find the teacher you speak of, but is willing to take the job on. We are talking finding lightning in a bottle. Just spit balling, but maybe Jody can throw a ton of money at the UCONN coach and also give him say in the GM part also. Co-GM if you will. This is only possible if he thinks enough of Clingan and the money is simply too much to say no to. I don't know if he values Clingan to that level. Additionally, Pop is probably done soon and that franchise will be far more attractive and worth staying unburdened for.
Part of the deal was that there would be a succession plan for the Knight family to keep a stake and the team would be kept in Portland.God, I'm tired of people on this board falling for the "Phil Knight offer." For many years, Knight has turned down requests from some fans to buy the team. Paul Allen wasn't selling, and Knight lacked the interest anyway.
After Paul died, a younger Californian proposed to buy the Blazers. His marketing gimmick was to make Phil Knight, now almost 87, his frontman. He knows that Knight will die and then he can move the team.
Phil Knight offered to inject some money. He didn't offer to buy the team outright. He allowed his name to be used by a proposed majority owner who will move the team.
That’s wasting like 7 months for the young guys. If there isn’t an assistant on staff who is a development type coach who commands respect and is willing to lose in order to play the right way and demand effort, fine someone from the outside to step in.Not mid season. This is a throw away season anyway and everyone knew this start of training camp. All the vets are good as gone and most likely coach too. And until THEN?Disagree. They are out there and available, we just need to find them.
Hold on you are still standing by that ANY coach is better than STOTTS?!?Which is still true. Anybody IS better.
That was coach and GM. Now it's organizational. Billups sucks but still glad we are rebuilding and WITHOUT Stotts. It should be the only two wins we had this year. Cause Billups is gooooone.
If they are dialed enough to lead our team to that next level, why aren’t they ALREADY employed? That’s wasting like 7 months for the young guys. They are everywhere. I know multiple that I'd feel very confident would do better. Find one who can do the job and give him a shot. If you don't like that one move on to the next one.And until THEN?
Hold on, you just typed they are out there, but you don’t know where?
There are guys taking a year off, in between jobs, G League guys who WILL be HCs eventually who would love a shot. Even a guy like Jim Moran (already with Sac), would come in and do better than this.If they are dialed enough to lead our team to that next level, why aren’t they ALREADY employed?

Love it!Phats, I hope you realize that HCP's purpose in being here is to defend his friends. Near the end of McMillan's tenure, he defended Nate the same way he later defended Stotts.
There are a few posters here who always defend the status quo by challenging us amateurs to do a nationwide search, then name names of replacements. They want no change, ever.
But now that I advocate for his friend McMillan to replace Billups, I think I have stymied HCP. My lifelong quest.
