I believe this is the first wide-scale distribution of an mRNA vaccine. This is a totally different mechanism versus weakened strained vaccines. We will see results when hundreds of millions of people get it over time. If it seems good after that, I'll probably get it. We don't even know how long this vaccine will confer immunity.

I wouldn't want to be the first ones the give this to on a large scale, especially after only 6 months of testing subjects. I imagine the therapies they find most effective in a year will look quite different from what's available now.

But if they are safe, start stabbin' away. I'll be waiting on the sidelines with a cup of coffee and everyone in front of me can be the safety net.

Yeah, the mRNA vaccine is a new way of fighting a virus by presenting the body with the outer trappings of the virus so the body can develop antibodies to that part of the viral structure without presenting the whole virus. In other words, you're not getting the virus itself whether weakened or dead so there's zero chance of contracting the disease from the vaccine. It's a new technique and should speed up any vaccine development in the future.

Well, some of us don't trust this rushed vaccine with no long term studies to its efficacy or side effects. Waiting to see long term effects as well as complications after its administered on the general population. I'm not against taking it, but I'm certainly not going to be first in line. I'll probably be last.

Also, how long it will it be effective for is unknown. You know, since they only have 6 months of data. They will still be studying the effects of this vaccine as its being administered to the general public. Its an emergency use authorization. The litmus for its safety and approval to use is a cost benefit analysis. The bar is lowered because they don't have enough data for how long it works and what are the long term effects, which have not be conclusively established.

We will know more once we start injecting the vulnerable in nursing homes en masse I guess and see how they react.

The vaccine is just as effective in the elderly as the healthy and young population, and no more risky. These people were part of the trial as well.

If we have 6 months of protection and have to vaccinate twice per year that's far better than the alternative.

However, there is no reason to think that would be the case. We know maximum protection (high antibody levels) lasts AT LEAST 6 months. There is no sign of weakening.

In other words, the MRNA vaccines last at least as long as the flu vaccine, and are far more effective.

That's enough to eliminate the risk of Epidemic if enough people take it.

I'm not saying that its a bad thing and no one should be vaccinated, but to unequivocally state that you should have no fear or skepticism whatsoever at taking this vaccine is foolish.

1. The Vaccine is not FDA Approved.
2. We don't know how long it confers immunity.
3. We don't know long term side effects or all possible side-effects that can occur. It is still being studied in a clinical trial and while they have noted side effects in the 20,000 people who got the vaccine, who knows what pops up when that number has reached 20 million people or 200 million people or is administered to a vulnerable population.

People need to do their own due diligence and make an informed decision rather than just open their arms and assume that everything will be hunky dory.

We do know that the numbers show the risk of any lasting side effect to the vaccine is far lower than the risk of death or long term impact from covid-19 if you don't get the vaccine.

My argument to this is that you're equating an addiction (cigarettes, caffeine, etc) where there are rituals and practices that fortify and strengthen the addiction (i.e. the addiction isn't so much the actual chemicals... which it is, don't get me wrong, but the routine of the anticipation of the next time they are to recieve it). Equating that to a vaccine which is an unknown isn't quite right. People are way more afraid of the unknown than they are of the known harms. When people go into a dark room... they instinctively slow down.. feel for a wall, shuffle their feet. In a lit room they have that schema and knowledge.

Psychologically, it makes a ton of sense why people may be wary of the vaccine.

I was on the fence for a long time. I read as much research as possible. Not only is covid a killer in some people. There are theories that people with no symptoms now, may have increased risk of health problems from having covid as they get older.

Their are risks either way. The best science now believes not getting and spreading covid is the best odds to play. The best answer appears to be the vaccine.

Oh I dont disagree there either. I was more just saying psychologically why it may be easier for a person to light up the cigarette or place the bet or what have you, and not for a contagious disease. They already have all the foundation in their brain to make the decision in an addiction and the cognitive dissonance to do it... though I suppose there's cognitive dissonance in not wanting to get vaccinated as well.

If I were to be fair, I feel like I'm arguing semantics more than anything. But that is how psychology works... within the grey.

Myself, im gonna wait and let the people that need it more than I to go first. Not because I'm afraid of the side effects, but moreso just needing to see what kind of effaciy this brings.

Fauci did also say that it should be about late march/early April for people with no underlying conditions to get the vaccine, and probably around fall when social limitations will really ease up and "normalcy" may come back. However, im probably getting the vaccine earlier for the pure fact that I work in a Healthcare setting.

I'll wait my turn in line, which will be a while. I'll see how the reactions are at that time and make an informed decision on which vaccine to take, based on the side effects and effectiveness at that time.

If I had the choice right now to take it, I would not. I'm not an early adopter type, I'll let them get the kinks and bugs out first.

What about those who’ve already had Covid? Should they be held down and given a vaccination as well, given that they have antibodies? Studies have shown that reinfection and distribution of the virus is very rare.
