You don't think it's fair to assume a big for the Portland Trail Blazers will get injured?

I think our wings have more of a chance to get injured. And we all know hickson isn't a good defender. He isn't getting 30+ minutes anyway.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been approached by the Atlanta Hawks about a trade of Josh Smith for Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes.

Atlanta seems hell bent on dealing Smith. They are talking deals for Monta Ellis now. Would they go for Matthews and Hickson? Worst case scenario is we lose Smith this off season for nothing getting a bumch more money in cap space. If you aren't a Smith fan the worst case would re-signing him, I suppose? Probably a lot easier to trade Smith in a S&T deal than Hickson

I would jump on that quicker than flies on shit

I love Smith's game. He wouldn't want to re-sign here though.

The Nyets really seem like a good spot for Hickson. They are close, and just need more umph up front in scoring.

Yikes! That just leaves us with gaping holes at TWO positions (SG & C), along with needing to create a bench out of thin air.

Nic would easily slide in at the 2, so really just at center where we already suck

Smith is making around 13 million so we would have to send out a lot of players to make it match up.

It would be interesting to see a lineup of

Lillard
Batum
Smith
Aldridge
Leonard

That's an extremely athletic team, and Smith would help our defense.... plus our shooting shouldn't suffer too much with Aldridge and Leonard both capable from mid-range. I like it.

We would still have some money this summer, no?

I've never been a fan of playing players out of position. Nic is a SF.
You're giving away a starting SG for a two month rental of a guy who just isn't a difference maker.

Matthews really isn't anything to cry about losing. As for Smith, I am not a fan of his game, but a lot of NBA teams are, so I would assume we could get something really nice in a S&T this summer that would more than make up the loss of two mediocre players

When you don't have any other SGs, and when there is a dearth of SG talent in the league, it absolutely is something to cry about. You may not like him, but he's Top 10 at his position.

I think his cap hold is 16.4, so we would have a little if we dealt Matthews, but not much

Top 10?

He's 20th in PER for SG's, 18th in defensive rating for SG's, 18th in 3pt% for SG's. How is he top 10?

And if batum moved to sg; where would be be?

By the numbers 4th. That is if he could theoretically do as well (or better) at SG. (I am going off of VA not PER if anyone is wondering, if you go off per then he would be at 8)

Nic is a SF, but didn't he put up great numbers last season at the 2?

Yep and i can only imagine how incredibly hard it would be to defend Lillard and Batum at the top of the key. Also, Batum can create his own shot, score off screens and make that wide open J from the corner.

I think the SF position is much easier to fill than SG, IMO.

SGs who are better than Wes:
Wade
Kobe
Harden
Johnson
Iggy

SGs who are arguably at the same level
Mayo
DeRozen

I'm sure you can pick out some stats to say that guys like Reddick, Martin, Ellis are better than Wes, but I'm not buying it. And of the guys who are better, or "as good", how many are available? By trading Wes for Smoove you are downgrading the team. You're not gonna pick up a SG who is better than Wes.

Batum would play shooting guard.

I can pick out nearly every important stat. Wes is and has been extremely overrated by our fan base since he got here. He's a nice player, but losing him would not be anything close to the end of the world

And I said I'm not a fan of playing players out of position.

Positions are just words on paper. It doesn't matter what two letter acronym you put next to his name. Aldridge plays center for us at times, but he doesn't like the "C" next to his name so he's a "PF".
