Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala, earliest Franciscan mission in California (est 1769). We have visited 11 of the 21 missions and several of the small offshoots on reservations - one day I hope to do a California trip of all the missions.

FWIW - my favorite so far of those I have seen is Mission San Miguel Arcángel - maybe because it has not been restored like most of the others.

nice! I have a small stream over the bank from my back yard that's spring fed and year around...then my property goes up to the edge of endless BLM land...nice buffer from the public

Bordering public land is the way to do it. It’s like having a bunch more land that you don’t have to pay for. If and when I’m able to buy a little bit of land that’s the first thing I’ll look for.

Grant High School.
My daughter is 4th generation there.
I'm second generation Lincoln High School. My mother and I had the same biology teacher, Calvin Foulk. My mother went to a different building which is now part of Portland State. Portland State never existed in her day except in a different location with a different name, Vanport College.

Look noobs, it's Grant HS.

(In before HCP... That's what Mrs. HCP said!)

#FAMS
When I was in high school Grant was the biggest high school in the state with over 4,000 students. Jefferson was number two with about 3,800 students.
My ex wife graduated from Washington but her two brothers went to Grant. One was a baseball star who got a full ride to the U of O. One of the people who use to post in here, now banned, knew the two brothers and also was a baseball star who played for the University of Portland.

it takes a lot to get banned from this place. if you post here, you’re probably off your rocker. if you get banned from this place, you probably should be locked up without access to a computer.

Damn, for being an ex-con you sure are a stickler for rules!

First photo I posted on another thread, but it's me taking this uppity (but hot!) Vietnamese American chick on a ride around Hue (city in Vietnam) on a kickass Blazers cyclo (check the plate!). The cyclo (more popularly known as xich lo) is similar to a rickshaw, but there's a third wheel and a seat in the back for a rider to pedal. I bet @Lanny and @riverman have seen it when they served in VN.

Okay, the uppity hot chick is my wife. She did give me a ride of a different sort later on that night to return the favor.

Second photo is me taking the wife to her former front yard in the old imperial capital city of Hue, Vietnam. I actually might've married into a bit of royalty, as my wife's great great great grandmother on her mom's side was one of the last emperor of VN many wives/concubines.

Btw, tell Blazers broadcasting to bring back the "Where in the World" segment, bro!

Damn i thought you said you were an old fart! Look look like a young buck to me!

Check out the all around portland sticky. Another great photographer is Fez. I love some of the pictures of the buildings and city.

River is right too. Hcp and Andalusian take great photos. I actually stole one of hcps pics from the coast and have it as a screen saver on my dual monitor set up in my music studio.
It lines up perfectly and i haven't changed it for a few years now. Lol.

Nice!

My retirement home (wherever it is) is going to be next to a body of water. Whether it's the beach, river, lake, or even a stream from a creek, I love being close to water (just no sewage!).
I prolly shouldn’t tell this sorry but what the f**K.........I was working at the Salem Wastewater Treatment Plant in the mid ‘90’s and it was a hot summer day. The treatment plant (one of the bigger ones in Oregon) is located upstream from a popular local waterfront park. One day I was going about my business when a string of vehicles came into the plant. I figured they were lost and would circle back out, so I basically ignored them. About 20 minutes later I had made my way to the other end of the plant to where the outfall (treated and disinfected water) was cascading over a weir on it’s way to the river 3/4 of a mile away. Imagine my surprise when I found those cars parked there, and about 8-10 Asians (obviously recent immigrants) setting up lawn chairs and coolers of beer!! Once we worked through the language difficulties I found out that they thought they were at the aforementioned popular local park and were getting ready for some fun in the water!! Eventually I got them packed back up and headed in the correct direction. I suspect they found the park a much more pleasant place to party than the local sewage plant (at least I hope so).......and I can only wonder what it must have been like where they immigrated from.......

Did you use the words..."no shit" or "shit happens"? That might throw folks off...

Can't recall seeing that but saw plenty of diesel motorbikes that could either be pedaled or driven by the diesel engine.
Geez she's beautiful. You look like someone I'd want on my side in a dark alley.

LOL

I always like to say, some shit in America is gold in third world countries. Most Americans don’t know how good they have it.

I grew up in Vietnam and swam in some of the nastiest water you can imagine. Shit was right next to me. You wouldn’t know it today if you visit Vietnam, but the beaches in Vietnam were nasty. Impressive how they cleaned that shit up.

You know the saying “you are what you eat”? Well, what if you eat fishes that eat your shit? Our toilet was a little wooden board with a hole and some leaves cover for privacy out in the water. We shit down into the pond and the fishes down there would be waiting to eat it. Then we catch the fish and eat it.
When I was there I visited China Beach, now called My Khe beach, and it was gorgeous. It was something more like out of a movie than real life, it was so pretty. I always thought there should be a resort there.

Really? You never saw a xich lo there? It's everywhere, especially in those days. It was the primary taxi service for short distance traveling (everywhere in VN is short distance).

Lol I'm a sweet, nice guy. Might not look it, but am. :bgrin:

And, the wife would most definitely appreciate your chivalrous compliment.
The woman is damn near as pretty as my wife.
