We are already a contender, Strenuus.
I agree... I'm not a fan of mid season moves because I've seen it backfire more than help. We are playing with house money right now with next season our big push for a title. Right now, I think our boys can get to the WCF and possibly make it to the finals. Once you are there, then it's anyones ballgame.

A legit contender. We're a contender, but not a title contender. I'd want to at least try (and not Morey 'hit it out of the park' try) to do something. If we don't, oh well, but I'd rather have "love than lost, then to have never loved at all" so-to-speak.

If we get that slashing wing that's already ahead of what CJ can do now (and CJ IS improving, but is it enough to put us over the hump) then you have to look at it, IMO.

I agree we're a contender, but I also think we're behind a couple teams as well. And it's true, it's more wide open this year, despite how tough the west is.

I know you think Golden State is terrible, and not good, and all this, but I think they are coming out of the west if we don't make a move, IMO. If we just make a move for the bench with an Afflalo type, we can come out of the west. That's my opinion.

"Most execs believe Aldridge will stay with Portland but their brass are very, very scared that he could bolt."

Not sure if I should've posted this here or the blood pressure thread.

Imagine the shaqtin a fool him and barton could hook up for though!

If my calculations are correct...
Javale to Portland = More Shaqtin the fool
More Shaqtin the fool = More media exposure for Portland
More media exposure for Portland = More people interest
More people interest = More Hotels for Portland due to the people visiting
More Hotels for Portland due to the people visiting = Portland Allstar Game! Woo hoo!

I might have forgotten to carry the 3 but i think you will find the formula works quite well

Was wondering how long this one would take to make it here. First iv seen about it was reported by @thenbacentral on twitter and it was the same as above with the added "they might trade him" to it. Havent seen it really anywhere else and doubt it has any actual merit behind it or it would have been reported by credible sources and would be the biggest story on what has been a kind of quite lead up to the trade deadline compared to other years.

Breaking news: Lamarcus Aldridge to weigh free agency options. Drinking out of toilet STILL bad idea!

Ok IF (and I dont think so) this is true and brass wants to keep said Aldridge but Olshey wants to keep the starting 5 core, wouldnt the thought be that lets sacrifice one of the starting 5 to make a bigger move to make a push in the playoffs that helps retain Aldridge? Like isnt 4 or even 3 of the starting 5 WITH Aldridge better than 4 without or a total rebuild/retool? IF they really feel this way wouldnt you feel compelled to make a move that keeps Aldridge instead of one that moves Aldridge???

So financially to make the trade work the options are:

1. TRob, Claver and 1st

2. TRob, Barton and 1st

3. TRob, Wright and 1st (I think we would resist this one - at least at first)

4. TRob, Crabbe and 1st (I don't think we would do this one)

I didn't bother mentioning CJ as that is too much to give up.

Here is what’s known: Blazers GM Neil Olshey is making phone calls and receiving some, too. It’s the business, and Olshey wouldn’t be doing his job if his phone weren’t active.

Denver’s Wilson Chandler is on the radar, and the Blazers will not hesitate to send some combination of Thomas Robinson’s $3.6 million expiring deal with another player and a first round draft pick to the Nuggets for the Chandler. Denver could be seeking two first round picks, similar to what they received in the Timofey Mozgov to Cleveland deal, but that is a lot. If that asking price remains high, Portland may wave the white flag on pursing this deal.

Here is what’s known: the Blazers like Afflalo, but would prefer Chandler. Afflalo is known as a decent locker room guy, can knockdown an open shot, and he’s a veteran, which Terry Stotts likes. Should the Nuggets asking price seem fair, and Chandler is a no-go, it won’t be a surprise to see Afflalo in black and red.

Thing is, Afflalo disrupts the growth of CJ McCollum, as he would come off the bench and eat up a lot of those minutes along with Steve Blake and Chris Kaman.

Both McCollum and Afflalo are represented by the same agency (Excel Sports Management), and with a 23-year-old McCollum still trying to find his place in the league, his reps may not be happy if Afflalo lands in Portland.

If this is indeed the case, one has to question if his $7.9 million player option for the 2015-16 season would be declined. If so, the Blazers would be empty-handed moving forward, losing Afflao and whatever they gave up to get him. And if Afflalo does stick around, then questions about the future of McCollum, the 2013 10th overall pick, may start to arise.

If the price is right, though, that might be a situation Olshey has to navigate if the Blazers are serious about winning a championship this season.

With health, the Blazers are good, but it’s no secret around the NBA the team’s one weakness is bench play. Adding Chandler or Afflalo -- if they fit and play well -- will only increase Portland’s chances.

In fairness, McCollum and Meyers Leonard have started to play well, allowing one to make the argument that if that play keeps up, depth on the bench will be improved. But the question has to be asked: Are the Blazers, as currently constructed, with an improved McCollum and Leonard, good enough to win the West?

It's a question Olshey and Stotts will spend the next few days pondering to decide if a deal is worth pursuing.

The answer to that question depends entirely on Batum's wrist imo.

If the blazers make a deal for Chandler, it makes me wonder if they are getting him for insurance if Wes leaves, with batum sliding to sg. Or if they like what Chandler brings, they resign wes and trade batum for bench pieces and picks. Or if all goes well they could keep all three.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Sources: Suns want to keep and re-sign Dragic, but to even consider a deal, they would minimally want player w/ All-Star potential and pick. Twitter @WojYahooNBA - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.PBHusOOW.dpuf

LMAO! Dude is going to bolt this summer. The fact they want to demand a potential all-star is beyond insanity.

Their mistake was re-signing Bledsoe (instead of doing a sign and trade) and signing Isaiah Thomas. Dragic should have been featured. Their roster is just weird to me...

Yep! They could have traded Bledsoe and change for a quality SF. Could you imagine that team with Jeff Green?! I'm sure they could have landed him with Bledsoe last summer.

Bledsoe is way better than Green.

Of all the point guards they have, Bledsoe is probably the best.

Hell, they could have gotten even more. He was being offered max deals from everywhere. The Bledsoe re-signing made the Isaiah Thomas signing silly.
