I'm just glad that the President stopped worrying about utopia and re-election to do his job, and I applaud the balls it took to do so. That doesn't take away from what other Presidents have done or wouldn't do, but I'd rather he speak like a naive peacenik and keep Gitmo and the like open and going after bad guys than talking a big game and wussing out on the hard decisions.

We had 10 years to draw up the 'what to do if we kill Osama' plan. It seems plausible that there was in fact a plan in place.

2. Interview Witnesses (used to identify)
3. Take photos of Osama (used to identify)
4. Send photos to Washington for visual confirmation
5. Wait for confirmation
6. After confirmation, move body to helicopter or plane
7. Transport body to aircraft carrier (nearest body of water approx 1200 km away)
8. Transport body into aircraft carrier
9. Go out to sea
10. Get order to bury Osama at Sea according to muslim tradition
11. Prepare body- wash body, etc...dunno maybe they googled it?
12. Dump body off the side of the boat

Brian could speak to this with more authority than me (especially since I have zero authority on this matter), but it seems to me that our military is equipped to do all those things, and is in fact in the business of moving people and equipment and even bodies from one place to another quickly.

Did we want his followers to recover his corpse and put it on display (like Lenin)? Did we want to dispose of the body in a way that would needlessly anger nonradical muslims?

Once you answer those 2 questions, the options become rather limited.

The guy has been at the top of the FBI most wanted list for almost a decade, you don't think there should be some kind of visual confirmation? Oh, but wait, we have a video of Obama in the war room! That proves everything!!!!!! Dude was probably watching a Bulls game.

White House modifies Osama bin Laden account

The White House backed away Monday evening from key details in its narrative about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, including claims by senior U.S. officials that the Al Qaeda leader had a weapon and may have fired it during a gun battle with U.S. forces.

Officials also retreated from claims that one of bin Laden’s wives was killed in the raid and that bin Laden was using her as a human shield before she was shot by U.S. forces.

At a televised White House briefing Monday afternoon, Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan said bin Laden joined in the fight that several residents of the Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound put up against the Navy SEALs during the 40-minute operation.

“He [bin Laden] was engaged in a firefight with those that entered the area of the house he was in. And whether or not he got off any rounds, I quite frankly don’t know,” Brennan said.

At a Pentagon briefing earlier in the day, a senior defense official said bin Laden used a woman as a human shield so he could fire shots. “He was firing behind her,” the official said.

even if osama did fire and use the girl as a shield, better to pretend he didnt, nobody is going to think worse of him, and it only has the chance to enrage muslims who will question its truthfulness

Liveleak now says that they can't confirm the authenticity of this photo. Which is good, because we were told that Osama was shot over the left eye, not the right eye. :)

I don't give a fuck what the US did to his dead body. However, it's a smart move releasing the information that we buried him at sea, after he had been "washed" and put in a clean white sheet. This is an islamic law/rule/whatever. Smart move by the US. No need to get these wacko fundamentalists even more pissed off at us.

Complaining about the story "changing" is ludicrous to me. In this day and age every one is so hot and bothered for information RIGHT FUCKING NOW. This kind of instant demand forces the ones with the information to release their information hastily. As time goes on, and more information is acquired, the historical scope of the topic will certainly be altered.

Not every thing is a fucking conspiracy. It's so "hip" and "cool" these days to be on the side of a conspiracy. It's so dumb. Yes, our government lies to us. I get it. But in this circumstance I believe we killed that bearded cvnt rag. Every thing else is irrelevant.

1)The DNA is more convincing than any photographic evidence.

2) The people who love Osama and/or hate Obama aren't going to believe *any* evidence, so why bother?

3) AQ just lost their figurehead/PR person. OBL was the public face of an organization that survives by staying in the shadows. Think about it. Why waste all these good conspiracy theories over something that ultimately doesn't change anything?
