When you are the biggest guy on the court; shouldn't you be able to pass out of a double team?

if it was that easy, they would never double team center

anyway, it was one game, it doesnt mean he wont be able to pass the ball in the next game

Nurk's assist ratio is #19 in the league among centers, his turnover ratio is unfortunately #11 among centers in the league. Under no measure he can be thought of as a passing savant.

NBA.com also has a passing ratio stat, there he is #15 in the league among centers, in the assists recieved stat he is #20 among centers in the league. In assists points created, #18 among centers in the league.

Good role player, anything over it is over valuing him.

So essentially he’s a good back up center and could be a starter when the real starter is injured.

Is he better than Drummond? Seriously is Nurk more valuable than Andre Drummond?
Exactly how much is he really worth and will he ever really be happy and just do his job?

No, his defense is very good as is his rebounding. He is a starting caliber center. He is just not a star center.

This is weird making a serious reply to your post. Feels like I should be insulting you somehow but here goes:

If Nurk was a better finisher, didn't panic and turn it over on double-teams, skipped the high-risk passes, and never shot another 3 he would be a "star". It's maturity. He doesn't know who he is and needs to figure that out or he will always be the guy bitching about his role because he thinks he can do things he can't.

We need wings and maybe a power forward, depending on how you view Nance. Using all the assets to upgrade over Nurk will not actually upgrade the team. I think its more likely that Nurk will be extended than traded. Billups is a Klutch guy too, wouldn't be surprised if we saw more of their clients head to Portland. I mean it already started with McLemore, but I mean more significant guys.

So much this. It doesn't make sense to me to get say a Myles Turner and have to give up Ant or Nas or picks too just to marginally improve the position. Turner is probably more inconsistent than Nurk too, it's Batum level maddening with him. If someone like Embiid or Jokic somehow became available sure go ahead, but those aren't happening.

Yes, but you also have to account for no Dame, CJ, or Ant to kick out to for making teams pay for the double team. Dennis can't shoot so it makes the right spacing hard to pull off.
 
Whether Nurk is going to get moved or kept to me is going to be between Chauncey and Dame....if Dame wants Nurk, Dame gets Nurk....I think Roco and Nurk together don't have the chemistry that Chief and Nurk had together....upgrade Roco if you keep Nurk and I have no problem extending Nurk unless he prices himself out of our market.
 
Drummond makes the minimum. Another reason paying Nurk anything over the MLE is a little much. Nurk is not a game changer. The difference between them isn't 5 times the difference in salary.

You see this was my point in asking is Nurk better than Drummond. The idea that Nurk isn't much better than Drummond is valid. He's playing as a backup center and posting comparable numbers but when he was starting at age 27 he was putting 17.5 and 13.5 for Cleveland. The only time Nurk came close to those was 2019-20 when he played 8 games.

The Idea Nurk is better and it isn't even close is laughable Homerism at best. Nurks numbers are falling faster than Drummond and they have never been as good. Granted Drummond doesn't shoot free throws well at all.

Totally agree the max Nurk should ever get is a MLE.

Not to mention he doesn't ever seem to bring a great attitude?

Nurkic's defense is much better than Drummond's, which is why Nurkic is overall a better player. I think NBA front offices will absolutely value Nurkic above Drummond, when it comes to salary. But I do think it's valid to note that Nurkic isn't like 10 times better than Drummond. I'll be curious to see if Nurkic commands much more than the full MLE, which is about $10M per year.

With his attitude and confidence in himself, he probably would be pissed off if he only got a 10 million offer from us and would sign for the MLE elsewhere. It wouldn't surprise me if he wants us to sign him for a premium to stay. Even at 15 million a year, would we want him?

$15 million is the tough number, IMO. Below that, I think you (as Portland) definitely bring him back. Above that, you let him go. Around that number, I think it's probably a bit more than he's worth but being over the cap, it's hard to re-invest the savings, so maybe you prefer to get a useful player back, even at a high-end price point.

I think I'd lean to bringing him back at $15M per year. He's still a tradeable contract at that price, and so you have more assets to use in a trade.

Funny enough, I think the Lakers would be a good fit for him--Davis is their best center, but he doesn't want to play center. Vogel has always been a proponent of two bigs and likes the old school rim protector type. Plus, right now, their best non-Davis centers are aging mediocrities. The problem is, what does LA have that they'd trade and Portland would want? I don't think they'd trade Horton-Tucker and Portland would have no real replacement for Nurkic anyway if they did that. They'd have to be giving up on the season, which I don't think they're ready to do. But the point more is--there are teams who would still value Nurkic even if his playing style isn't a perfect fit for current schemes.

I initially stated Nurk should get Norm money and a Norm contract....I think it's what he deserves myself if we keep him. I don't feel a great need to move Nurk unless he wants to overvalue himself and move on....we paid him for 2 seasons after his leg fell off to waive a towel so I think Nurk should accept a reasonable deal...Evan Turner money, Norm money....otherwise it's easy to find a vet center for 5 million and change...pretty much what we paid Enes...with CJ on the books there's not a huge chunk of change for Nurk left over

It is the position he plays. Nurk is not a pillar of a winning franchise. Centers that are playable, and worth decent roles are getting paid minimum deals. You can get much more value for centers with lower deals than you generally can for a minimum shooting guard (ben mclemore is an example).

Lets not forget Nurk is also more fragile than Powell historically has been in his career. Thay comes into play when you are throwing money at someone. Maybe doctors check him out and have no concerns.

you realise thats one team and one that has historically all-time great shooters and which playing style was perimeter oriented

nurk was not important part of our offense last season as we were also perimeter oriented team, shooting threes until their arms fall off, but weve seen this season what nurk can do when he gets the ball down low

Play 24 minutes per game and lead us to a below .500 record?

I know there are multiple reasons why we are below .500 and Nurkic is not fully to blame.

But, still. Not interested in overpaying for someone too much that would get MLE offers on the open market.
