Melo doesn't even wanna be here, he wants to be in Houston so I don't see the point

That's why I referenced his overall shooting efficiency. That takes everything he does into account (pretty literally--Melo contributes nothing beyond isolation scoring). His TS% (which accounts for free throws and three-pointers) has been terrible his last three playoffs, which takes us back to 2010-11. Unless you think we'll be getting 25-year old Melo, I think that's as much as is even close to relevant.

Melo has 2 years 54 million left on his contract. The second year is a player option, so theoretically he could (and probably would be) a one and done. If we could unload Leonard or Turner in the deal, it would be much more ideal than taking Anderson and his 3 guaranteed years.

His numbers would be so much better with actual good offensive players next to him, look at the Olympics. In NYK his best teammates were Tyson Chandler (all-defense) and JR Smith (wild card).

That could be true, but I'd be wary of drawing too many conclusions from his Olympic performance--he's playing much weaker competition there. Most teams have at best a few NBA players. The gap has closed a bit over time since the days of the Dream Team, but the US is still way ahead in terms of overall basketball talent and the world's talent gets fragmented across a bunch of teams.

I wasn't arguing which player I'd rather the Blazers acquire (neither, preferably, unless Turner/Crabbe is headed the other way), just that playoff performance, besides being a small sample size, doesn't really help Anthony's argument for which player would help more on the court.

One of their beatwriters said NY is targeting Harkless as a key player in the package they want. This was tweeted during the HOU/POR/NY rumors though.

Knowing that our rookies can't be traded until December - I'm fine with the idea of Melo.

It keeps Houston from getting better and we consolidate the roster to give Swanigan and Collins a chance to develop.

This may be the only reason the Knicks attempt to talk Carmelo into coming to Portland, they seem to want Harkless bad. I dont see Anthony wanting to come here though...unless the Knicks tell him its Portland or stay. Would he choose to stay?

I wonder if the knicks just stopped talks because they realized no one wanted Houstons trash and they figured they'd cut that middle man out and deal with Portland directly since we do have something they want. So since Carmelo hasn't said he'd waive his ntc for Portland, they're giving him two options; either expand your teams to include Portland, or stay in New York.

I agree and I think he would. He likes living in New York so I think he'd put up playing for the shitty team for another year and then opt out next summer.

I hope I'm wrong. Would love to have him. We need to send papa Nurkic to "talk" to him.

He could look at it as a 1 year exit from New York. Which would be better than staying in New York for him.

Honestly, New York has no incentive to trade Anthony for junk and Anthony has no incentive to waive his no-trade clause for any team but the ones he wants to go to (Houston and, presumably, Cleveland). Anthony likes being in New York. New York will either drop his contract next off-season (if he chooses to leave) or, at worst, the season after. Since it seems like they're being offered non-valuable players, just having his contract come completely off their salary structure is probably the next-best option.

So, unless Houston upgrades its offer a lot (like offering Capela or something), the stable state seems to be no Anthony trade at all.
