We have 2 picks coming to us this year. One probably in the the teens, the other in the 20's. Do we use those to pick up more young players? Should we package them or any of our other players for a higher pick or other players? Or have I jumped the gun, gone insane and rather wait till the official end of the Nets' year (Playoff exit or April !6)?

Lots of variables. The nets' pick could be between #7-11, or #15-16, depending on whether they make the playoffs--that's a big gap. Dallas' pick could be anywhere between #22-28--or they could miss the playoffs entirely, in which case the Nets won't get it. They could obviously do different things with #7, #22, and #37 than with #16 and #28 (or #16 and nothing).

It is never too early to talk about the draft

netted has it right, we need the mavs to make the playoffs with the 8th seed so we can have there pick, its' lotto protected but anyways, it depends, praying budinger comes out although he'll be a lotto pick. also hoping earl clark comes out, nice backup swingman

Chris Douglas-Roberts
Bill Walker maybe...

Brandon Rush?

plus We pick a highly regarded euro and stash em' abroad?

Honestly, IMO this team needs shooter like Ray Allen more than it need big man like Kevin Garnett.

True, but they're not available. We might review the ''mike miller'' case, again.

So if the Mavs miss the playoffs have we forever lost that first round pick, or does it get moved to another year?

lottery protected, but not pass that

can we trade for Biedrins? He'd be awesome. too bad GS wouldn't give him up.

I think both picks them get moved to 2009 and 2011.

Richard Roby comes to mind so does Joey Dorsey especially where we pick them, we could possibly even see Bryce Taylor slip waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down, we have a few picks in rd. 1 this year, I'd love 1 potential starter and 1 decent bench filler at the wing.

My first thought is that since the Nets don't have a pressing need for a big man, that they could stay put and get two really good swingmen where they are.

Of course, they might want to use one or both picks to move up or upgrade a position.

It's nice to have the flexibility.

Of course, there is one 50 win team not making the playoffs, and there's always the chance it will be the Mavs.

I think we should trade up to get a natural scorer like O.J. Mayo. I wouldn't want to trade away our picks for Mike Miller though I would rather keep the youth comming in. Can you imagine where we would be if we didn't sell Kyle Korver for $150,000....

there has been whispers of Mayo as Marbury Jr.

LOL except Marcus isn't, but Mayo has definitely been compared by draft minds as Marbury Jr., I'll admit he's gotten better but what happens when he gets pissed at a coach like Frank.

NBADraft.net's prediction for us, Tyler Smith, is playing pretty well in tonight's game against Memphis. Pretty athletic kid..

brandon rush needs to be drafted by one of our picks

Am I the only one who thinks we should draft just wings in this draft?
Personally I think we're good at PG and the frontcourt positions...
Unless Hasheem Thabet is available...cause well damn!
He's averaging 11pts, 11rebounds and 7 blocks per game...

we dont need thabeet with diop here and yes, we should draft a SF and SG, we have enough young bigs, assuming diop resigns, krstic, sean, boone, diop is enough along with swift if he isnt traded, we need a shooter first and foremost but i am a bit worried since we hardly see any dead eye shooters come straight out of college anymore and we need 3 pt shooting

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (jirohkanzaki @ Feb 24 2008, 01:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>best player available...

. . . .so you'd draft a PG?

A couple of points:

You can always combine the picks in a trade. Nets tried to do that in 2006 by offering #22 and #23 to the Sonics in hopes of getting #10 so they could select Hilton Armstrong or Saer Sene. (Whew!) Assume it's #15 and #23. How high a lottery pick can you get by combining them in a trade? I would assume no higher than #9 or #10. Is it worth it?

At least in the Stefanski era, the Nets went with the best player available and in particular dismissed off-court concerns if they felt the players were worth it. See Williams, 2006 and 2007. That said there are a few bigs who could be sitting there when the Nets pick. Devon Hardin comes to mind. Would they go with him considering all the young bigs already on the roster? They liked him last year after working him out. And they may not know whether they will be able to sign Diop by Draft Night.

If the Nets decide to dump Carter on Draft Night, that deal would affect them in two ways: in terms of need and in terms of picks. They may need to give one up or demand one.

My dream pick: Nicholas Batum.

Agreed. I really do not see us taking on two rookies and maybe even a third. Every position is covered now unlike when we were in need of a big man.

Our need is a shooting gaurd like NI said in Nicholas Batum and there is no point of grabbing two mid ones if we can trade up and get a top ten pick.

well there isn't much difference between players in the top 5, the next 7, the middle 8 and the lower 10 so you can pick for need within those brackets but for example if a top 12 pg falls into the next bracket why wouldn't you pick him up? we need someone to replace darrell armstrong anyway...also, there aren't many good (pure) point guards after derrick rose so it's not really a problem...most are too short for the nba...if there are combo guards available (bayless, mayo) then the nets need 'em...

you pick the best available then address further needs in free agency and trades...

I'd be ecstatic if we can get a guy like Sean Singletary in the second round.
