all this being said, tipping in fancy restaurants can get a little tricky, like was their service really worth 100 bucks or more for the hour? meh i usually do 20-25% but that can get expensive in a hurry

It gets all kind of screwy when you start getting wine into the mix. Like, is pouring a $200 bottle of wine worth $40 more in service than pouring a $20 bottle of wine?

I usually tip the same amount, I wish they'd just add it in to the bill and you can forget about it. but if they did that they'd still expect something.

I think it evens out though. When you go to a more expensive restaurant, they usually do have better wait staff since they have an image to maintain and can be more selective in hiring.

Not trying to send a message to the server, but to society as a whole. You lump him in to the "1%", then fine, he'll act as he's expected to. 1% tip follows. Its just a form of irony which I find amusing.

Just like how OWS start blocking roads, shouting around neighborhoods and protesting..assaulting people, getting in people's face and annoying them..that is them being assholes too on a much larger scale.

So his message to society on a receipt is a counter balance to the actions of OWS?

Mention the “99%” in my boss’ presence and feel his wrath. So proudly does he wear his 1% badge of honor that he tips exactly 1% every time he feels the server doesn’t sufficiently bow down to his Holiness. Oh, and he always makes sure to include a “tip” of his own.

How do you "sufficiently bow down to" 1% people? Don't leave out the juicy details either!

It really doesn't matter. Most of these people are Borderline Personality Disorder types. I've had lots experience dealing with rich assholes, best thing to do is to ignore them and kind of be an ass to them without coming off as bitchy, they seem to respect that more than if you work hard for their approval.

being a waitress is not a sustainable job for the most part. you barely make minimum wage (except for some outliers who do work at expensive restaurants). For the most part, it is a stepping stone or something to make ends meet, otherwise you will be struggling. while hard work isn't bad, its always good to aspire for something with greater earning potential.

this guy's advice, while probably a bit douchey, is probably truthful and helpful. moreso than the $4-5 dollars the waitress will use to buy cigarettes with

Mr Pink?

Production can be outsourced anywhere else. computer automation and outsourcing are the future.....

No, they're the past 30 years, and the reason we're in this depression.

Reagan crushed American manufacturing by destroying the unions, Clinton threw dirt on the grave by rewarding the treason of outsourcing, and Bush encouraged the 1% to break every law on the books and dig up the corpse and strip the bones clean.

That's a nice anecdote. I didn't realize the top 1% paints widgets, I was misinformed.

I think he was trying to say the top 1% aren't smart enough to do much else than paint widgets. Lucky for them most of them were born obscenely rich.

Yet a neurosurgeon who works 80 hour weeks and spent 12 years in schooling after college while saving lives is part of the greedy 1%.

Any neurosurgeon who is working 80 hour weeks is killing people right and left.

And anyone who reaches the age of 30 before actually "working" is too late to the table to ever contribute their full share to society.

How about Obama's poster child, Warren Buffett?

3rd richest man in the world.

He employs 270,000 people.

Remember that the next time someone tries to fool you into thinking The Rich aren't job creators.

The jobs would exist with or without him.

Consumers create jobs. The Rich steal the $ and the credit.

no, the reason we're here is that americans are poor workers that overconsume and place emphasis on finding the easiest way to a quick buck versus actually doing the hard work necessary to get it. almost the entire reason we're where we are at is people used their homes as ATM machines and not places to live in. Society is a short attention span theatre of scams and passing fads and groupthink.

Bubbles are created out of greed (not only of the 1%) combined with the laziness to take shortcuts. The tech bubble happened because people were making stupid ideas that didn't make sense, but people were throwing money at it so what the hell, why not.

Same with the housing bubble. Houses were not places to live, but commodities with unrealistic expectations and gains.

Global economies require the outsourcing of work. There is no "edge" or advantage to paying americans to do these jobs other than out of pure charity. For the most part, americans are bad workers who demand too much money and give as little as possible to get by.

Restaurant Calls Photo Of Banker’s 1 Percent Tip, ‘Get A Real Job’ Message A Hoax

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — A wealthy banker set off public outrage after he allegedly followed up a $133 meal by leaving his waitress a one percent tip and a personal tip – “Get a real job”. But the restaurant where it supposedly happened said it is all a hoax.

According to Huffington Post, CNN and several other news sites, a person claiming to be an employee of the “wealthy” banker took a photo of the receipt and posted it on a blog, “Future Ex-Banker”. The blogger paired the photo with their own caption:

“Mention the ’99 percent’ in my boss’ presence and feel his wrath. So proudly does he wear his 1 percent badge of honor that he tips exactly 1 percent every time he feels the server doesn’t sufficiently bow down to his Holiness. Oh, and he always makes sure to include a ‘tip’ of his own.”

The blogger surmised that the post would probably mean losing his or her job. Not surprisingly, soon after the blog started getting a lot of public attention it was taken down.

The post set off a hailstorm of online comments that touched on the 1% vs. 99% class warfare embodied by the Occupy movement.

The Huffington Post posted a correction to their story, indicating that the restaurant called the blog’s photo “altered and exaggerated”.

The restaurant told CBS2/KCAL9 that they have been receiving hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from people outraged over the reported story. They have confirmed that the receipt was changed and that the original receipt lists the meal as just over $30, with a 20 percent tip and no message aimed at the waitress.

HuffPo = legit!! :MARIS61:

LOL

Holy cow, the 'hoax' story just got pulled by LA CBS.

The link is now gone.

The link still works.

I hope it is a hoax.

It was well done if it is fake.

Expenses. Depreciating assets.

I guess you buy crap?

The bulk of my possessions continue to increase in value over time, probably due to my habit of buying American made products.

:biglaugh: Name something that has appreciated in value because its American made?

Your couch? Your computer? Your television?

Typical american mentality. The more possessions you have, the wealthier you are.
