Toronto is a good example of why we should stay the course

Which is why our best option right now is probably to stick with Olshey and let him see this through. They can easily target a couple years from now as a rebuild year if necessary and make sure new contracts will allow flexibility. If Olshey thinks the problem is coaching he can go out and hire a new coach... we aren't too far away. Just a couple good moves.
That’s a terrible option... if you you are already admitting the current roster will not work, why would you wait 2 years when Dame and CJ are almost 30... you should maximize their value in trade which is right now

There is always a number of ways to look at it. I happen to agree that they need a strong 3 & D wing that can hit a jumper from mid range and create when he gets a good chance. Harkless could be that guy if he continues to improve. Then they need a true Powerful Power Forward. Collins looks like he could prove to be that guy. Zach also can hit a three when asked to. Letting the cake bake isn't popular after getting beat in the playoffs like that. But you just watched LeBron get shut down and the rest of his team could not make the Celtics pay. That is pretty much what happened to the Blazers.

I'm not saying we don't need some changes, just that we don't need to blow it up. If we can improve the team with a trade we should do it.

That said, I would gladly trade Neil Olshey and Terry Stotts for Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens.
The changes we need involve trading one of our best players though. Isn't that blowing it up?

I'm not admitting the current roster won't work. I think we're a move or two away from contending, especially after Nurk and Collins get a couple more years of seasoning. But even if it doesn't work, you're still not in a bad place in a couple years.

Great post. I agree.

I just don't think that's necessary. I don't think we should trade CJ or Dame unless we're getting a lot in return. It would need to be a no-brainer, perfect situation. I don't think that opportunity is going to present itself, so I would set about improving the rest of the team without giving either up. That said, if the perfect scenario came along I'd do it.

Harkless shot 42% 3pt last season... Aminu was at 37% but shot the lights out in playoffs... you guys all seem to think adding one 3 & D player is gonna solve all our problems... so you get someone that shoots a couple percent points better than Aminu... does that player have a better net game than Aminu or Harkless... probably not if the are available for Blazers without giving up a major piece... I just don’t get how people think anything will change for this team without breaking up Dame and CJ

I think Harkless could be the guy. If he can stay healthy and become a legit threat, and shoot 40% + from 3 in large volume he'll be what we need. Especially if Collins and Nurk keep improving. Collins, Nurk and Harkless are all bound to get better. These are young guys.

I really don't get where all the panic is coming from... We simply can't go cold for 5 minutes a game. That will kill us against good defensive teams. We need another guy who will make shots. We need to make teams pay for coming out on Lillard and CJ. Collins, Nurk, and Harkless can all help improve on this as they grow, but you really can't rely on Aminu. Sometimes he's there, but teams dare him to make it.

They've kept their core despite many playoff disappointments and have added young players and now they're in a position to win it all. We don't have to trade everybody and fire the coach.

Are you still going to use Toronto as your example for what the Blazers should do?

I'm guessing you won't since they fired their coach.

We need ball movement and players that can attack the rim.

Not what my post said. It said a 3 & D player that could hit a mid range jump shot and create when he had the chance. Aminu is not that player but Harkless seems to be becoming that player. The player that comes to mind was Wesley Mathews before injury.

Wes Matthews create??? Do you actually watch games... Wes couldn't dribble to save his life... one of the worst ball handling SG in the league. Also he has poor court vision and a low assist rate... I don’t know what creating you have seen from Wes... he is good at moving without the ball and hitting open 3’s... that’s about it

Wes could hit a mid range jumper very well. And he posted up very well. He also created when he had the chance in a mismatch. This is what I posted.
Sometimes you gotta stop and read what people post. Trying to take a portion of a comment makes you look a little boorish.

Wes was the stereotypical 3 and D guy...emphasis on D.....his dribble was chest high...he couldn't finish a layup in the open court more often than not...not a great passer but a great 3 and D guy....he wasn't a pt guard so he knew his role...Nico was a better distributor but you're spot on with his post ups...his hustle kept him a starter. He was also a vocal floor general on defense

Yep. Totally agree. He played within his capabilities. Seemed to run pretty well but no he was not going to dazzle you with ball handling. He had the post up turn around jumper that he would dish out of if someone was open under the basket. Rolo would benefit from it now and again.

Jeez dude.
Then don't lob that junk at me. Of course there are other guys available. If they are desperate enough to come to what you say is such a bad situation do we really want them?

My point is: think it through.

I'm talking about hiring college coaches or coaches interviewing for jobs across the league, not hiring guys entrenched in an organization connectes to superstars. I hope you see how that's different.

Don't play dumb and then make it personal over a basketball conversation.

Really? Personal? You wouldn't take the job if it was offered to you? Ok. I apologize then.

Why would we take a flyer on anything other than a sure thing right now? If the situation is as bad as you say it is a good coach isn't going to be interested.

And when was the last time Paul Allen paid top dollar for a top coach?

He doesn't. He's not going to do it. And if he starts making decisions like you're suggesting over Olshey's head this is going to get worse rather than better.

You're just casting about whining about our most successful stretch in over a decade and it just gets old.

In his defense, most successful stretch in over a decade has us getting swept twice in the first round, and gentlemanly swept twice in the second round... that’s not something to be proud of, we deserve better.

I interpretted "I'm sure you're available" in a different way.

Its not our most successful stretch in a decade. We got swept in the first round.

And Olshey and Stotts have have only been here one season.

Christ, talk about playing dumb...
What the hell are you talking about? If youre talking multiple seasons and comparing them to the fallout of the JailBlazers era and then recovering from losing Roy and Oden, thats not saying much.

You preferred missing the playoffs every year? Getting bounced in the first every year?

Olshey, Stotts, and Lillard have gotten us into the playoffs every year. They've gotten us to the 2nd round 2 of the last 4 seasons, even while losing our most dominant player 3 seasons ago.

Come on man...

Look at our playoff success the last 4 years. When was the last time we had that much success? Go ahead. I'll wait.

When was our last division title before this season? Go ahead.

I’m sorry that I’m not impressed with mediocrity, I guess? You’re the type of fan Olshey wants though. Happy with the meaningless titles and accomplishments.

4 years ago our starting lineup was 4/5ths different. That team was inherited from a previ ous era as well. So only the past 3 years are relevant.

1st round in the past 4 years in the playoffs:
Lost in 5
Won in 6 (CP3 and Griffin hurt)
Lost in 4
Lost in 4

That's your definition of success?

And we're talking DIVISION TITLES...?!?!

I want LEAGUE TITLES!!!
