You missed my point entirely.
The Lakers were looking to dump bad salary (Mozgov) or trade similar salary for more years. I'm not sure there's any players that'll be on multiple year contracts that teams are willing to trade for an expiring contract that will actually be worth their pay. The team obviously doesn't want to pay them any longer. Those are the reasons why the want expirings, it's never just for the sake of acquiring expiring contracts. Usually they're giving back junk, which doesn't make our expirings all that valuable.
Do we really want more bad salary? Also, it's unlikely that there will be long-term bad salaries when they're expiring because most of the bad contracts in the league were signed in the summer of 2016 and that inflated summer caused a depressed market in the years aftwrward, which suppresses the inflated deals that we saw from 2016, leading to very few bad contracts having multiple years left on them in 2019-2020.
