Toronto is a good example of why we should stay the course

You preferred missing the playoffs every year? Getting bounced in the first every year?

Olshey, Stotts, and Lillard have gotten us into the playoffs every year. They've gotten us to the 2nd round 2 of the last 4 seasons, even while losing our most dominant player 3 seasons ago.

Come on man...
You cannot win this argument. Some people simply do not see what the team has done over the last three years as positive. Growth from within is slow. They want success right now. They do not like adding one player a year and trying to improve the team through the draft and small steady moves. There is no way the improvement you will see in Collins and Nurkic and Harkless will be enough to excite them. They will also not like the limited amount of improvement the Blazers could get from a Mid level acquired player. The TPE will not provide that huge splash they are looking for. Winning 50+ games and getting to the second round next year (If that happens) will still not be enough. Getting to the WCF is the only thing that some people will actually accept as a good season for this team. Which would be absolutely crazy good for this team to make it that far in 4 years from total rebuild. But it will not be enough even if it happens for some.
My suggestion is to simply allow those differing opinions to simply be a different opinion.

Thank you. I actually just came to that same conclusion after my last post.

4 years ago our starting lineup was 4/5ths different. That team was inherited from a previ ous era as well. So only the past 3 years are relevant.

1st round in the past 4 years in the playoffs:
Lost in 5
Won in 6 (CP3 and Griffin hurt)
Lost in 4
Lost in 4

That's your definition of success?

And we're talking DIVISION TITLES...?!?!

I want LEAGUE TITLES!!!
Thank you. Who was the last coach and GM that got us to the playoffs 5 years in a row? How long ago was that?

I'm satisfied with a young team that is improving every year. We have time.
That would be great if other teams stayed the same... unfortunately other teams have younger stars with more growth potential... McLillard ISO ball will not change, other teams will get better... Blazers won’t face teams with their best player out again like this year... dead last in assist and fast break points in entire NBA... swept by Pelicans... don’t see the same growth you do

Olshey will have to make some changes. No doubt about it.

So getting to the playoffs (which more than half the league) is what counts as "success" to you? That explains a lot.

If you're goal is to make it to the 1st round and get swept, then everything should stay the same.

How many of our role players are you and have room left to grow? Collins and Nurkic are the only ones. Other than that, our other young pieces don't play and won't be anything more than fringe role players at best. We should have veteran pieces instead of Layman, Papagiannis, etc... but that would make our team appear not as ying so that narrative wouldn't be as strong....

I actually kind of agree with you, but I’m gonna play devils advocate for a second.
PapaG from all accounts is a guy with a lot of potential, so he can get better, Baldwin looked like he might have something, Swanigan seems to be a fan favorite. Collins and Nurkic aren’t old either. It’s not like the Blazers have 0 shot of having internal growth make them a better team.

The problem IMO is not that the Blazers have zero talent to develop, it’s that there just won’t be consistent enough opportunity with McLillard playing ISO ball and taking half the shots as Stotts allows

Only a fool would think we're improving. Olshey's Stagnation Strategy (players and coaches knowing each other better) gets a couple more wins each year. The SS will fail when the players start to retire in about 5 years.

A GM improves his team by trading every year for a new starter better than the one he gives up. Look around. Other teams make trades every year, while our team stagnates under Olshey.

Harkless is also young, and when he's doing what he can do we're very tough to beat. Yes, we absolutely could replace Layman and Papagiannis with the right vets. I expect that if a more capable vet is available Olshey would pull the trigger... I don't think hanging on to Layman is a priority for Olshey.

I think you completely missed my point man...

I didn't say everything should stay the same. You're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

Re-read your post and tell me what point you were trying to make. It was actually kind of tough to follow... We started from basically scratch 3 years ago (we did have Lillard). Filling out the rest of the roster for the long haul takes time. Especially when Portland is not a destination for free agents.

In late July, Olshey defenders will favor any change made by Olshey after he does it, acting as if they were for it all along, and argue with us against any change that he doesn't end up making.

No, I don't want more bad salary. What I want is the good stuff that comes along with taking on salary! The 76ers got some good shit from the Kings for taking on some bad contracts. We got a 1st round pick for taking on Varejao. The Nets got Russell for taking on Mozgov.

There is the need to match salary as well. I have four examples for you (not that I'm saying these would have necessarily been good). A trade for Carmelo last summer would have been more likely if we had expiring contracts (NY could've held out and not dealt with the 3 teams Melo wanted). Expiring contracts and 3 1st round picks last summer would have been a lot more enticing for Indiana for Paul George. Mirotic might be a Blazer if we had a big enough expiring contract to include that was better for them to take on then Asik's contract with future money on it. If Blake Griffin becomes available in the future having big expiring contracts to get over $30 million to send back to Detroit to get them out of the last couple years of his mega deal might be nice for them.
You must really be looking forward to the summer of 2020!

I wasn't a fan of the Turner signing. I wasn't a big fan of trading Plumlee either...

Sorry, you lost me there but still dont have much depth even before that.

Baldwin looked like he might have something? Something better than CJ in that position? And then you are saying Swannigan has potential because he is a fan favorite?......
Sorry, but us fans our extremely biased.

We are talking about the young guys actually becoming a serious impact on the court. Not improving enough to be a back up bench player with consistent minutes. That isn't going to improve this tea much.

I'm talking about hiring college coaches or coaches interviewing for jobs across the league, not hiring guys entrenched in an organization connectes to superstars. I hope you see how that's different.

Don't play dumb and then make it personal over a basketball conversation.

wow, and more insults come from the guy who says I insult people, lol

It's never ever good to insult each other. It only satisfies an ego that shouldn't need satisfying.

If you want to influence some in a positive direction, don't insult them.

If only I could take my own advice all the time.

I'm not addressing this to you, BonesJones, I'm addressing this to everyone, myself included.

Self, heed this advice. Yes sir.

Whether he did or not, you're not going to win him over by attacking him.
"Don't play dumb" is attacking someone now?! Wow... unbelievable. So what do we call what you guys do?

I thought he attacked me personally. "I'm sure you're available" has many different meanings. You guys are in no position to police anybody, so don't.

Passive Aggressive with veiled hostility is what it's called.

I'm not policing anybody. I'm trying to guide you to a better path that will return you a better result. If that's not what you want, then simply ignore my attempt. After all, this is just a computer forum and it's all just words.
