Toronto Raptors Dame trade ideas and rumors

i tend to think Amick is well connected, especially into Goodwin's inner circle.

Amico is a hack.
Sounds like the smoke about Toronto is real though, if they’re leaking that shit. But I honestly think they’d be saying that about any team that started looking like a viable landing place. Dame sure looks like a real entitled prick though. Toronto would be legit with him and Siakam and either Barnes or OG.

OKC is still my favorite destination, but Toronto is a close second at this point.

Here is one trade that I think makes sense for all three teams but can't be made until 10/10.

Very similar to another one that involved Eric Gordon instead of Schroeder. There is some question about when those can actually be done. Spotrac said Gordon's could be done on Oct 4, but someone mentioned that was incorrect.

There's no question. It's December 15th.

Generally a team only has to keep a player for three months after signing a contract or December 151 of that season, whichever is later.

The Fanspo Trade Machine site just uses the 3 month criteria incorrectly.

Spotrac gives the real trade restriction dates.

Something like this then...

We immediately flip Hield somewhere. Pacers get a younger and taller shooting guard in GTJ. They want to dump Hield anyway. Supposedly there's a few teams interested in Hield. If we can get a pick, great, if not he's expiring.

Raps give up a lot. Might have to shave a pick off.

Suns get a replacement for Ayton at half the price and a legit point guard (something they lack.) Also Porter for some depth.

We get a couple of starters who still fit our window. At least one pick, hopefully two.

Scoot/Simons
Sharpe/Simons
OG/Thybulle
Grant/Walker
Ayton/Reath

maybe i'm crazy but I dont think masai needs to give up more than one of og OR dick (plus gtj) to beat miami's offer.

like, even just gradey dick > jaquez + jovic, to me.

I'm really not that interested in Dick. To me, it's either OG or Barnes. They have to give up one or the other.

If they give up Barnes, they won’t have to give up as many other valuable pieces, which feels important if their goal is to go for a championship in this small window.

Agreed. If they gave up Barnes, I wouldn't want nearly as much back.

I still think this makes a ton of sense for all teams involved and then the Pacers can still shop Hield for even more young but experienced depth.

Interesting change. I like picking up Walker. Here's the problem though, and why I think OG would be the guy that we want.

If we bring in Ayton, I think this team will be too good to really tank. I think we will still be a borderline play-in team.

Scoot
Simons
Thybulle
Grant
Ayton

That team could still really surprise people if Scoot plays at a ROY level. Unless.... we deal Grant at the deadline, which is definitely possible. Picking up Dick/Walker/Precious would certainly lend itself to rebuilding though, but Joe has been talking like he still wants to try to compete.

I think if we are a borderline play in team that we will see how we fair without Grant. I really think if we go really young in the Dame trade that Jerami will be gone at the deadline. Thybulle might be too for the right value.

It would be nice to get some of these young guys some play-in/playoff experience but it won't be necessary this season. Remember that Joe isn't really interested in first round exits, he wants to be all the way in or all the way out. I think this season we will end up all the way out.

one problem with the Barnes-rather-than-OG idea is that OG makes 8.5M more than Barnes. In CBA trade credit, OG is worth 23.3M; Barnes is worth 10.1M. Toronto would have to come up with 18M more salary than OG to trade for Dame. They'd have to come up with 28.5M more salary than Barnes. Much bigger hurdle and it would require a 4-for-1 trade which Portland doesn't have the room for without waiving players and eating their salary

now, a 3 or 4 team trade can start to offset some of those differentials but it becomes a lot more complicated

I think there's a legit chance Grant is gone, but I think they keep Thybulle. He's cheap, he's a really good defender, and he's a good guy. He's the kind of locker room dude you want to keep. We can't go completely young. We need some vets. I like Thybulle more than Grant in that role. He's a bargain.

With that said, this draft is weak and I would hope that we're not still completely horrible in 2-3 years. I think if we can add Ayton and OG, I could see Joe going for it. Move Simons for something that makes sense at the deadline.

This lineup has a really great mix of experience and length.

Scoot (19)
Sharpe (20)
OG (26)
Grant (29)
Ayton (25)

We could afford to pay OG/Ayton/Grant for three years while Scoot and Sharpe are on rookie deals. Maybe move Grant in that time, but I think we could really make a run if Scoot plays as well as we think he will, or if Sharpe pops this season.

Win or lose, we must improve our defense. The culture here has to change. OG would help. And the kids need to learn from Day 1 this season.

So...is that what people really want? Ayton & OG?

when OG gets his new deal, the Blazers would be spending 120-130M year for Grant, Ayton, OG, and Ant. And there isn't an all-star level player among the 4. Nobody close

people really want to hop off of the supposed Dame treadmill and immediately hop on that one? Looks like just another brand of purgatory to me. Maybe purgatory is the best we can hope for, but spending 90% of the salary cap for that foursome looks kind of dumb to me

We can pay those guys that much money because the future of the team are still on rookie deals.

I think Ant is gone at the deadline. I think Grant could be gone at the deadline. You’re talking about a short term problem.

That’s not a treadmill. That’s just putting talented guys around Scoot and Sharpe who are veterans but aren’t old. Grant is the only oldish one. There is still a bright future with that team as they gel and Scoot/Sharpe improve.

that’s fair. but empirically, I think dick + picks beats miami’s offer. I don’t think jaquez and jovic have any real value for Portland.

Yeah, if we are taking on OG with the intent to re-sign him (and not flip him), I think you immediately start testing the trade waters with Grant.

Now that's an interesting question. Taking the bigger names out of it, how would everyone rank the following potential six "prospects" in terms of value to Portland (either for the roster or as future trade assets): Jovic, Jaquez, Martin, Dick, Achiuwa, Koloko?

anyone else been tickled at the idea that og would go to Phoenix and not Portland? lol
