A couple years ago, Detroit wanted to dump salary, so Portland's TPE was as important to them as the pick we gave. Now, Portland is already under the tax, so they don't have any huge incentive to dump Grant, whereas the Lakers need someone like him if they want to compete. As others have said, teams pay a premium for desperation. It is absolutely reasonable for the Blazers to expect 2 FRP's (or 1 pick and Knecht) from the Lakers for Grant given each team's current situation.
