Trail Blazers 2016 Summer League

Wiltjer is not an NBA player, and Gary Payton is D League fodder imo. Houston can have them.

You guys have been indoctrinated, watching Aldridge for years. Most of the league doesn't believe shooting ability is absolutely necessary to be a PF. A powerful rebounder/defender is enough, and that is Alexander's potential. Also, if shot-blocking is the only way to discriminate between C and PF, then we need to search the world for more Manute Bols.

I agree with this, but in order to put him in position to succeed he needs to be close to the basket. Lets say we got Howard or Whiteside, would you want him playing PF next to these guys? But then again the NBA is becoming more "position-less"
so who cares what they are called. But I just don't want him chasing stretch 4's around on the perimeter. He is better suited under the basket if he is going to make it IMO.

I also think we should at least try playing two bigs at the time. Meyers is a stretch 4 but having a traditional inside playing power forward could also be nice, give us options

I know he's not tall enough, but I wish wee given Elgin Cook a chance. Payton Jr. will probably never shoot enough to be in the league but I loved Cook's skill set.

I like Cook as well. Basketball pedigree from his father and the ability to do a lot of things on the court. Heis 6'6" and has a 6'10" wingspan and a mid-30's max vertical. Alex Kennedy has some very nice things to say about him when he saw him at some pre-Draft camps.

Yeah. From what what I hear Dillon Brooks has a negative wingspan. Whhatever that means..... he's not projected to be a high pick either. Kids a baller though.

Yeah I loved Cook at Oregon. Very good college player. Plus I never had to worry about him leaving early. A PF in a wing body.
I just can't see him making it int he NBA. Should have a good career in Europe.

I sat right next to his dad during the Elite 8 game. Not sure they talk to one another but he was still very intense throughout the game.

As for Dillon Brooks......he has a chance. Hopefully he stays another two years. Right now he is no where near being ready. His outside shot needs to be automatic in college for it to be good in the NBA.

Dorsey to me has the best chance, but he needs another two years too. Unfortunately I hear he is anxious to go pro. But he better get bigger and stronger first.

I heard that the games will be on NBA TV only. Not on CSN or Rip City Radio like they have been in the past.

First game is today at 1pm.

  • July 9 vs. Phoenix 1 PM COX Pavilion
  • Sunday, July 10 vs. San Antonio 7 PM COX Pavilion
  • Tuesday, July 12 vs. Utah 1:30 PM Thomas & Mack Center

Weak. No NBA TV on Prism and they aren't doing the Summer League streaming online like previous years.

Last nights games were on ESPN. NBA TV doesn't seem to be on PS Vue.

Let me know what the highest quality settings seem to be at

It says today's game is available on ESPN3... Not sure if that is free for everyone or if you need an certain cable subscription to watch. Anyone familiar with it?

It's free as long as you have ESPN I believe

I don't doubt that he 6'8". My point was that his standing reach is taller/longer than centers like Horford. As they say you don't block shots with the top of your head. Standing reach is a better measurement. Plus he is strong and can jump.

Why move him to PF? He is useless away from the basket at this point. Maybe he develops a mid range shot and can be moved to PF, but I think his best shot is at Center.
I don't think he is coming back; that's my take from the Olshey press conference. He might be in the summer league but only to showcase him and give him a chance to find a new team.

Sounds that way. No room for him now. We still probably have one too many centers when you count Ezeli, Plums, Davis, and Leonard. Granted some can play PF, but I think center is still their best position.

Good thing I overpay for comcast

Phoenix plays pretty good D for a SL team

I like that take from Vonleh.

I hate watching Summer League, it's always dominated by some guard hoping to land a d league contract somewhere. There is no system in place and bigs get lost.
