They may be acquiring more fans at this current moment, but it's an incredibly short-term gain. Instead of focusing on building that bond with a younger generation of potential fans, those familiar with streaming services, the Blazers added a lot of older fans. I'm in my mid-30s and I feel like a lot of my generation and the generation after me has already cut the cord and has no desire to go back.
Streaming is the current and future means for consuming content. The Trail Blazers failure to grasp and understand that doesn't surprise me one bit.
This decision feels a lot like your favorite sport, baseball. Keeping and enforcing these "unwritten rules" appeases the older generation but by not embracing showmanship or finding ways to speed up the game, the amount of younger fans interested in the game will continue to dwindle.
