It's interesting that they're saying this is a multiyear deal while not giving a specific amount.
yes, no contract so you can always get back in if/when root gets on there. So, should I get rid of my YouTube TV account? The Blazers were the reason for getting it in the first place.
Wait, what is the media market size now for the blazers? Is it big enough now to draw free agents? Will they get more favorable treatment? Finally part of the big dawgz?
Nope. Nobody seems to realize that we're not a small market anymore. We have grown a ton in the past 15 years. We're not a large market, but we're also not small.
We're a bigger TV market than Pittsburgh now. I find that interesting since they have all the sports except NBA.
This seems misleading >> "Reach to Nearly Double Across Oregon, Washington and Alaska"
But the difference now is that Root holds a stronger position in negotiations than NBC Sports Northwest ever did. While the Blazers were essentially the only draw on the soon-to-be-defunct channel, and it struggled to add attractive programming otherwise, Root will control broadcast rights for the Seattle Mariners, expansion Seattle Kraken, Blazers and Portland Timbers.
The product will be more appealing. The programming will feature year-round coverage of four different professional sports leagues. The channel should be more popular with Northwest sports fans.
If NBC Sports Northwest could lure distribution deals with YouTubeTV, Hulu and others with just one professional sports team as bait, is should be easier for a channel with four teams.
“Well, that’s certainly the idea, right?” Crumb said. “We want to have all the relevant teams. If you have them all, you have a really compelling offering.”
It would be interesting to see the breakdown of that. Is it expanded reach in Oregon, or just doubling the number by covering more of Washington and Alaska?
Nice. If you combine Portland + Seattle, then they are right their with Chicago. That's a pretty big market. It might mean more pull to get Blazers on ESPN and TNT, and that is a loosely might so don't hold any hopes and dreams to that. But hey it could mean more fans now.Bigger than:
Pittsburgh
New Orleans
Charlotte
St. Louis
Indianapolis
San Diego
Baltimore
Nashville
Salt Lake City
Kansas City
Cincinnati
Milwaukee
Vegas

It just pisses me off that fucking Vegas has two teams now (and maybe a third) while we're almost twice as high on the list.
