Care to not cherry pick and quote the whole quote?

Nah, the government shouldnt be expected to maintain an optimal efficiency by utilizing the latest technology. Lets let them run the office in an archaic fashion and then just suppliment the inefficient costs because... they werent meant to turn a profit..

What kind of logic is that?

LOL.

How is this saying I think they should turn a profit. I merely used someone else's ideology because he says the reason for it is they shouldn't.

Read several other posts where I have maintained a consistency that they aren't here to make a profit, but they should be able to change in order to not rely on fed suppliments.

I said because someone else thinks they shouldnt get a profit they shouldnt update to be efficient is flawed logic.

Nice try at twisting my words around SLy, I thought more of you than to stoop to the common denominator that most members already do here.

Maybe include the post I was responding to for context???

Is there anyone in here left who debates with common sense without twisting things around?

Isn't like what they are doing with us?
nope....they're using our debt money to buy Canada.....we're like renters paying for their house....for decades you could buy a Canadian passport for about 150k and purchase of a house...you needed that investment to get in the door...They're also buying Latin America and Africa.....(I'm sensationalizing here)

""QUADRUPLE"...

And yes, flat rate boxes. are the only service USPS offers. :biglaugh:

Edit; screenshot of a package I shipped;

3rd party company offering you rates. Not one ship[ping company provides rates for the competition. Your screen shot is irrelevant because it has third party info .

Here is a real valid link to the USPS page for charges...Looks like your third party entity robbed you....

IMO, if a Fed agency wants to operate at cost neutral that's what they should do, but they need to at least cover cost, that would include retirement pensions.

Thank you...USPS does not need to "quadruple" their rates, that would absolutely kill their market share with Fedex and UPS, and no one would use them...I certainly wouldn't.

I ship 5-10 packages a week and I alternate between Fedex/USPS/UPS depending on the size and weight of the package as well as where it is being shipped to.
I can't speak for everyone's post office but walking into the one nearest to me is like walking into the DMV license center...their labor force is about as laughable as the post office...so raising the rates alone won't solve the problem ...cut the fat first. Also, Fedex.UPS both charge for scheduling pickups, USPS does not, which doesn't help their bottom line.
But your point about USPS pensions is a valid one.

willing to bet my savings though that if Obama had done this long needed change, it would have been perfectly fine from the DNC and Anti Trumpers. But Since Trump made the call... anything is bad that he does... even if it makes sense.

LOL.

lol...USPS does not offer flat rate boxes that measure 4x5x43".

Ebay shipping is about 15% cheaper than using my separate USPS/UPS/Fedex business accounts.

I shipped 100-150 packages a week for the last ten years.

How do you expect the post office to pay for the retirement pensions? Through tax payer dollars from people who may not use the service, or by raising rates to those who do?

Edit: Or should they go without, because you know, Trump brought this up, so anything he says is wrong. Don't raise the rates. Let the people go without their pensions...

Anything to argue against Trump, right?

...lmao...Ebay shipping is less than using my separate USPS/UPS. Fedex accounts.

Ebay, and amazon, eat some of the costs incurred for shipping depending on the product and options because you are using thier service.

you aren't this naive are you? Do you really think Amazon ships things for free?

The thread title says Trump made a call on a current news item....some people support it, others don't ...somebody is politicizing the topic here ...the post office has struggled pretty much all of my life..it was a real service to rural americans that has raised prices since inception....it has been failing financially forever.....not since "Obama" dude...they need to restructure if they are going to survive the internet...that's been a given since George Bush Senior was president...just like phone companies that still mail you a phone book...they are the Sears ad JC Penny's of their sector and I don't know if the USPS will survive...neither does our mail lady...I just asked her last week

Sure. When I buy something on Amazon and i can select free shipping, then yes, they are sahipping my item to ME for FREE.

On another note...as a favor to your mail delivery people....clean your mailbox regularly

Somebody is going to come along with a robot self driving car delivery service in the near future that will bring everything you need to your door

River, I didnt say its been failing since "Obama"... go back and reread the posts before I give the rest of this serious thought please.....

Tired of the spin. I specifically said its been failing for a long long time... 30 years.....

Fuck me....

I was covering western Canada when the Chinese were leaving Hong Kong in mass and you are correct they needed to invest in a business or properties. Canada has about 12-15% of our population so they want bodies, but ones that can invest and provide fro themselves. They were buying single dwelling beautiful homes tearing them down and building multi family dwellings. They wouldn't touch a property if it had a 7, I think? in the address or would try and get it changed.

Invade Canada, sell it to China.

I guess the military could use a nuclear missile silo as collateral for the loan they'd need to fund the invasion.

Or they could get buyers to invest in the outcome of the invasion on spec, investors get paid out of the sale price of Canada.

Around here when I was shipping approx 450 packages a day UPS was by far the bench mark for superb service, they would drop a trailer off everyday and pick it up. FedX for overnight was good, thats how they established themselves but when they started contracting with independent drivers out here they were not real great. Customers didn't want us to use them even though we negotiated a better rate than UPS. DHL out here was a joke.
We went back to UPS for most of our parcel business but still used FedX too.
With small parts and or accounts mailings we used USPS because of the cost.

Yes, but Amazon still paid. Not free to them. Follow the logic through..

I was only commenting that yes, Amazon does ship things for free as do many etailers. Never said anything about what it costs them and neither did you. :dunno:

Then you completely missed the point of the fact that it costs to ship. Who is paying for it is irrelevant to the fact that there is a cost for shipping. So your analogy is the same for the USPS, Fed Ex and UPS, making it irrelevant. If Ebay had shipped UPS, it would have been free to you as well. :dunno:

Yeah, ups/fedex used to pick up my packages too but I no longer have a store front and it was part of my monthly fee. And yes, i also use usps for smaller/lighter weight packages...now, all of my packages are Fedex/UPS Ground or USPS priority mail and a flat rate box every now and then.

I use all of them depending on rates and service.

I work for UPS and it would be very easy to have a manager, or employee, lose/damage ballots coming from certain districts that lean heavily Dem/Republican. I would have to assume that UPS would need to setup an area where only certain employees handle the Ballots and its all recorded/under close supervision but it could still pretty easily happen and be made to look like an accident.
UPS is already raising prices, they do it almost every year, and if there is an insane influx of deliveries because USPS goes under then you can bet your ass they will raise prices again by a lot. The Argument that UPS can't or won't raise their prices because of FedEx won't matter. UPS will raise the prices and wait until FedEx fails to deliver their influx of volume in time and the big accounts start coming back to UPS even with the raised prices. Iv seen that scenario play out again and again. FedEx inability to deliver on time when they get an influx of volume is why you wont see an Amazon package delivered by FedEx unless UPS subcontracted it out to them, otherwise it'll be delivered by Amazon themselves or UPS.

very good point....I hadn't thought about mail in ballots

You don't think a CEO of a global shipping and logistics company is qualified to run the USPS and replace a post master who is retiring?

Not as qualified as someone who has worked the last 30-40 years in the USPS and actually earned. Sure, he knows about shipping giant crates of shit, but he bought his way in by donating money to Trump and that is corrupt bullshit.
