Trump is no longer a resident of New York. He and the other members of his family filed a Declaration of Domicile to change their residency to Florida. They have all listed Mar A Lago as their primary residence.

Its a tax thing.

Lots of (wealthy) people are doing this. Even not so wealthy people are doing this. Hell, I'll be doing something similar before not too long (Nevada).

Places like California and NY are completely fucked. There is no advantage to make it your primary residence if you can afford to have a secondary living situation.
