Not good at math?
sure.....read it and weep....Mexico won't pay for your wall.....who's not good at math? You voted for him. I'm not hyping the Dems either....they fuck up plenty...but Trump could've kept govt from shutting down....the dems just called his bluff. Unlike your post....I think this hurts the GOP even more...math says Dems are making up for lost ground pretty quickly with the GOP firing everyone in sight. Top 5 staff members in Trump's administration have yet to file financial disclosures....Kushner has made 39 changes to his...adding millions and still hasn't finished his homework....these guys are supposed to be professionals...math? Crowd size? Who can't do math? You honestly think this administration has done a responsible job vetting cabinet appointees?

This is going to cost Dems a lot more seats in Nov.

Good luck with that. Government shutdowns have never lingered in voters' minds for very long. And that even assumes they blame Democrats. Current polling shows most of the public right now blames Trump and congressional Republicans for the shutdown.

That could change, obviously, but pinning your hopes both on that changing and people even remembering it 10 months (and 50 Trump distraction news cycles) from now is definitely a good way to set yourself up for disappointment.

So a starving college student that's tired of Top Ramen should quit eating because they tire of a bad situation?

Not really the same thing. A starving college student can't just choose to be richer and able to afford a better diet. Congress can just choose to work together to create a proper funding bill--it just takes political will. A government shutdown creates some political will.

Having 17 years experience as a Federal Employee I am aware of the non-issue and non-effect of a temporary limited government shutdown.

The only parts of government that are paused are the ones we can totally do without, the scams and ripoffs that Congress was paid by lobbyists to enact. So a shutdown merely highlights these tax-wasting targets for permanent removal.

It's a win-win for anyone wishing to shrink government.

As for am I happy with the President's performance, absolutely yes!

My income rose significantly last year and will again this year, he has already kept every promise he made with exception only of those acted on but temporarilly stalled in lib-courts. He has drained the swamp considerably by firing or not rehiring deep state moles and is lining up prosecutions for many more. He destroyed ISIS in a few months, has NK shaking in fear, has exposed Socialist-Europe for the weak-willed failure it is, and I'm looking forward to finding out who the DOJ's recent 9,000 secret indictments are going to bring down.

Depends on who you ask.

Key results from the CNN poll:
  • 31 percent said Democrats in Congress would be to blame for a shutdown.
  • 26 percent said Republicans in Congress would be to blame.
  • 21 percent said President Donald Trump would be to blame.
  • 10 percent said all politicians would be to blame.
  • 56 percent said avoiding a government shutdown is more important than coming to a solution on the DACA issue. 34 percent said the opposite.

This is not true.....this shutdown affects first responders....military housing in the field...many things....I've profited from the deregulation and tax cuts to big business but that doesn't blind me to the utter chaos this administration has brought about...Trump hasn't drained the swamp at all from my view....he's definitely helped his own cause in the business world though...that anyone trusts him baffles me honestly...N Korea hasn't been so emboldened with their missile program in human history as they are now...ask the Japanese how much boot shaking they are doing...the world is more volatile now than since Nixon

Nonessential employees won't be working or being paid.

How about we get rid of them, since they're nonessential in the first place?

I'm actually happy when government shuts down. It actually proves how much of government isn't essential. Few people miss anything it does when it's shut down in the past.

but you'll get your paycheck, right? I'm sure it's not a disaster to shut down govt..but it does carry risks and even military families have mortgage payments and bills....delaying their checks isn't going to be making them happy

Military personnel are essential. Called for specifically in the Constitution.

I should have said, "few people outside government will miss anything due to the shutdown." That would be the 99% who aren't part of government.

The last few times, panties were in bunches over the national parks being closed. Is that all you got?

Yeesh.

Dems, without having any objections to anything in the budget, voted to shut down.

Reps voted to stay open for business.

President Trump has made his wishes clear, to stay open for business, but he does not actually get a vote in this.

The temporary shutdown, which from a running it as a business view is really no big deal at all, is all on Congress.

The Swamp Shutdown.

Republicans control the senate...obviously some republicans said no and thus caused the shutdown....

Armed Forces Network won't even be up to carry the NFL games. Going to see an explosion in r/nfl streams tomorrow.

Duckworth slams Trump: I won't be lectured on military needs by a 'five-deferment draft dodger'

well I was going to get a passport renewal ....and you could be right ...might not be a big deal for a weekend...weak sauce from the GOP given they control the majority across the board. What do you have against national parks anyway?

I like how IRS is laying off 40k employees. I can see it now. We demand you pay your taxes now! What's that? Oh you got a refund? Sorry we dont have staff to write checks.

All the snowflakes are saying if we dont get our way we arent going to pay the military then we are going to drop on the floor and flail our arms till daddy buys us the lolly. That's right snowflakes, trump is your daddy!

Federal gov't politicians get paid. My sailors who have to do their Reserve Duty today won't (until "back pay" comes "later").

It's kind of messed up...the Navy has to provide lodging for people who drill more than 50 miles away from the drill site. One of the requirements for that is that you have to drill an entire day the next day (makes sense...don't want people staying for free if they're not working). B/c we don't have bases and barracks in every town that has a reserve center, hotels are contracted at preferred rates for those sailors.

So...last night we found out at midnight that the gov't was shut down. Those who were not using the lodging were ordered not to come in (b/c they wouldn't be paid) and the drills are being rescheduled. Those who had lodging, so that the Navy could say they met the requirement of "a full day of work if you stayed in a room", had to go in today, unpaid (for now).
There lies the reason why these politicians care less. They get paid for poor performance unlike a real job where you could get canned. The entire Congress is a wealthy class privilege.

I keep seeing this from people...you know that the majority can't beat a filibuster, right? That's why it's "#schumershutdown". This isn't how ACA got rammed through 60-39...it's that 50-49 can't beat the (D) filibuster.

I could be severely wrong on something, but that's why all these comments (not the Trump memes, I know from whence they come) about "R's can't get their shit together...R's control everything...". No. There may be a reason to "not kick the can down the road" (which I can understand, if not agree with) and "we need to have a lasting agreement on immigration" (again, Poland seems to have that one figured out) but this seems very much to be the minority filibustering (which is their right, and one of the few cards in their power) to ensure that my sailors don't get paid, but that an illegal immigrant can stay longer. :dunno:

Some did, but it requires 60 votes to end debate and actually vote on the Bill. Republicans do not have 60 votes.

but that an illegal immigrant can stay longer.
America is all about providing safe sanctuary for those fleeing injustice elsewhere in the world...we have courts backlogged with these cases...the last figure I saw was 50k cases pending.....not enough judges and lawyers to process them. Some of these families fled here from Noriega's death squads, etc....so an El Salvadorian child born here from refugee parents that is 40, has a career and raised a family here is now to be deported? I don't know about you brian but that leaves a bad taste in my mouth...so many of our forefathers came here in similar fashion from Europe and elsewhere...are they really a problem? I don't think so......they should not be lumped in with cartel criminals who do business and reside here...it sets a bad precedent for the promise on the statue of liberty
