I voted condensed, but I think it depends on the content. It's always odd to me when someone will bump a year or two year old thread that referenced, say, Donovan Clingan, to post something new about him. In that instance, start a new thread. But if there's a big topic, like Dame asking for a trade, inevitably there's 5 different threads on it, each saying roughly the same thing, and you wanna respond in one spot, but it's also relevant to another, and it gets annoying.
That said, for the most part our mods do a really good job here, so I'll default to their preferences.

Hey look, my answer!

I have no preference on this matter

I too, have no preference, as long as it's not done by someone who is doing it with malicious intent (that means doing something on purpose or with ill will @THE HCP ...ill will means animosity. Animosity means strong hostility. Hostility means ill will. And since we've come full circle, which means returning to a past position/argument, I'll end this bit and spare you anymore confusion).

If I post a duplicate thread on a topic I appreciate mods merging the thread but I don’t think we need another covid thread or Ukraine thread etc. posting random questions like “are you going to the game tonight” aren’t thread topics. I thought about a generic RIP thread to condense those. Problem with a bunch of random thoughts posted as threads is that it kicks threads like the Ukraine war or starting roster threads off the current page and these are popular topics. Threads are for topics not generic comments in my view. People can private msg each other in many cases instead of cluttering the list of topics. In the larger scope of things in the end it’s not important anyway. I don’t have to watch those threads if I choose

wait....option 1 = more threads....and option 2 = more threads....am I reading that right?

I really only have one issue with threads. It's those who use any thread, to convey the same point...thread...after thread....after thread.

You don't like Billups as a coach? We get it. We allllllll get it. Please stop figuring out ways to blatantly or in a poorly veiled fashion, use every thread as your bully pulpit to say your point.

This is not censorship....it is recognizing courtesy. Could we maybe come up with a badge for those hot repeated points....so every poster who has the badge on their avatar or sig, is well known for their stance?

Maybe "CB"...with the red circle slash over it for the coach hate thing?

The term threads is offensive. I prefer we call them Mini-mancave discussion couches.

So good

More specific threads...if you dont know where you are going you'll end up somewhere else. Any thread thats get less than 10 participants, gong the author of the thread....

Maybe we could make it so you can start a thread about pretty much anything at any time and then have a watchdog who’s pretty sharp (Sly if that works better for you) that has a group of minions at his disposal that can police and even merge threads as need be.

That system might work decently?

It's not that simple.

I prefer more topic-specific threads to long-assed merged threads that end up containing multiple topics and take too long to wade through.

Of course, I think most of us can agree that we don't need a new thread for every random thought that pops into someone's head and expresses an opinion that's been covered in other threads. But I find those easy to ignore and if we ignore them they disappear.

IMO the only threads that should be merged are those where two people start a thread on the same topic within a short period of time by accident.

I find people complaining about new threads to be more annoying than the pointless threads themselves.

I say don't worry about the number of new threads and let them sink or swim organically. If you're not interested in a thread, just ignore it. That's what I do.

I was gonna start another thread discussing which subtopics deserve a new thread instead of an old thread being bumped. Since my thought is about determining what shoild be new vs bumped and not about people’s preferences, I think it deserves a new thread. But the last time I create some threads for fun, some people got so pissed, they left the forum!!!

How the hell does anyone get so pissed over new threads or threads being condensed, to just leave the forum?
Always found that odd…
