Actually I challenge you @jlprk to find anything from 2015 that suggested OKC WOULD NOT match. Their Gm was on record saying he would match any offer. You wanna play? Let’s play.

GMs often try to prevent offers by claiming they will match anything. Olshey was sincerely trying to get any player he made an offer for. Obviously. Risking tens of millions of dollars is no frivolity.

What are you saying? It was a max offer. If Presti was bluffing why did he match?

Also try not to pivot and actually find me something that suggested OKC wouldn’t match. Everyone knew they would. I didn’t even give much thought to Kanter in a Blazer uniform and I doubt anyone else did either. So unless proven otherwise, the only revisionist propagandist here is you.

Huh? You're the one claiming that Olshey was bluffing. Kjironman then used gambling analogies, as in poker bluffing.

So you reversed it to say that I claim that Presti was bluffing. You are one good propagandist.

Our Master Bluffer can't bluff his way out of a paper bag. You are much better than him at it. You should be GM.

He'd be our second best big in the regular season. But teams would P&R him to death in his 15 mpg in the playoffs. You saw what SA did to Leonard last night. That's about what we can expect in the playoffs.

This wouldn't happen with Rolo. He's like Nurk only slightly worse in pretty much every aspect of the game. Having a Nurk and Nurk 2.0 on the court for 48 mpg in the playoffs is incredible.

Lopez also formed a good pick and roll partnership with Lillard. And he fit Portlands culture and seemingly enjoyed his time as a Blazer. I think I’d still go with Kanter but I think he’ll find a bigger role elsewhere so it doesn’t even matter. I just hope the Warriors don’t pursue Lopez. I’d settle for Gortat though, he’s fine too.

When did I say Olshey was bluffing? I said he wouldn’t have gone after him had he not thought he was a fit. Fucking with OKC was also part of it though. I don’t know why that’s so hard to accept?

So Kanter used the Blazers but the Blazers didn't force a team in the same division to sign their player.

I see.

To mess with their payroll? Again, Olshey mismanages his own payroll.

I think more likely, Olshey liked Kanter and wanted him on the roster. Occam's razor.

Why can’t it be both? He liked Kanter enough to pursue him, but wouldn’t have minded OKC getting saddled with his contract either.

In Olshey's defense, this was before the summer he messed up the payroll. Other than that summer he's actually been really good at managing the payroll.

"Fucking with OKC" = bluffing. When did I say that Presti was bluffing? You first mentioned the word "bluffing," not me.

IMO, that has to be a consideration when pursuing a free agent. If you don't make the contract offer large enough to make it at least mildly undesirable for the other team, then there's no point in making the offer in the first place.

The other issue with Kanter is his off court drama. He's kinda a diva when he doesn't play.

Simmons and Russilo threw around the Kanter to POR idea and referenced our "giant" contract that we gave him. They were apathetic about it.

I think we'll just keep the roster spot open just in case we need it due to an injury.

I've referenced this, but with our roster as is, we're covered with wings in case there's an injury. That PG and C spot are the ones where we're not THAT deep. No point in waiting if all the decent dudes are gone.

Which playoff teams need a backup/starting center?

Here’s who I’ve come up with

Warriors
Bucks
Rockets

You know there are some other things to that. I flat out said to let Crabbe walk but most people wanted to match. Olshey Matched. I flat out said Myers at 8 million would for 4 years would be fine. Most agreed. He gave him 10. Not really a huge difference.
Olshey overpaid that summer but not everyone was against all his moves. My question is if Crabbe would have taken off the way people were sure he was going to would the moves have been more acceptable? Probably so. What did he get out of trading Crabbe? That really didn't turn out bad either?

If that’s not bluffing I don’t know what is.

The antonym of "sincere" is "bluffing" or "fucking with OKC." As I said,

No dude. I was talking craps. You don't bluff in craps bro.

Irrelevant to your praise for Olshey and revisionist history of the motive for his Kanter offer. Olshey fucked up as usual, and you and Scalma are rewriting history, making him look good.

Lopez seems to fit the Warriors the best unfortunately. If we’re actually in the market for a center (which we should be) it might come down to Kanter and Gortat. DeAndre needs to hit the market.

Not a rewrite, though. This was the conventional wisdom at the time.

Nope. Kind of seems like this is the other way around to me.

Absolutely wrong. A couple of apologists made up your convoluted psychological theory at the time as they always do, but majority wisdom was the plain facts--that Olshey had simply made an offer, and lost. Duh.

That is a double edged sword. If DeAndre hits the market and goes to one of our competitors that is not a good thing.

If he hits the market he’s going to golden state. They’re winning either way. I just want our boy back.
