I'm just thinking from the injury perspective. If Dame or Nurk go down with something nagging, who would you trust to play 20 mpg in a few late-March regular season games?

I’ll dive deeper once I get into work. Gonna be a productive Friday lol. But I wanna see if Gortat is still productive. He also always gave Nurk fits and would help him get better.

Crap, I didn't realize Teodosic had been waived. I also didn't realize he'd been so marginalized in LAC (although after the SGA draft pick, I can understand it).

Dallas should pick him up to add to their stash of Euro dudes.

Any waived player is usually paid around the league minimum because their contract salary is paid by their former team. The 'new team' portion of the salary is then deducted from whatever the contract salary is for the old team. Hope that made sense.
So who actually takes the hit on Jordan? Roto has him staying in New York. So probably not a buyout?

Part of the reason Neil chose to not break up the hood trade by using the Vonleh exception then create 2 new exceptions is then we wouldnt have been able to sign a waived player to a prorated exception.

I wonder if Atlanta buys out Lin or Dedmon

Btw didn’t we go after a couple guys last year? I know Belinelli was one but I could’ve sworn Ilyasova was another target.

I can see why Neil would be frustrated but I don’t think it has anything to do with market size. Seeding is probably a much bigger factor. We’re sitting in a better spot now than last year.

I was thinking the same. If ether goes down they have a problem. If I had to choose one position to add depth to in case of injury I would go with adding a defensive minded veteran center. Rolo would fit that description.

Greg Monroe jumped out to me. I always thought he was overrated and wouldn't be a good fit here, but, man, his star fell fast.

I think Portland would have a good shot at landing Rolo if Golden State passes/goes with someone else. System familiarity would be a huge advantage.

Gortat and Rolo are both linked with GS. We should have a shot at one of em. Houston is getting Capela back in a few weeks and Faried has been great for them. They're prolly out of market for a big.

Just based on this I’d probably rank them

1. Kanter
2. Gortat
3. Lopez
4. Monroe (for the record I wouldn’t pursue Monroe at all)

Olshey did pursue Kanter before. It was probably done mostly to fuck with OKC, but I don’t think he would’ve risked it had he not also believed Kanter was a fit.

Not really. Zach Randolph is a clown that needs to stay with the Mavs. Obviously the Lowly Kings didn't value him much as well as the Grizz. We all know he is a complete waste of time and space here in Portland. You seem to be short on memory.
Olshey made a good move by making the Thunder match. Sorry you can't see that. But it's very true.

I agree with no Z-Bo. It's crazy talk.

But if you think Olshey was playing some brain game by signing Kanter to that offer, you're a Kool-aid kid. That notion had been inferred later, but the reality is clear that Kanter was just another straw Olshey was grasping at that he couldn't quite get a hold of, see: Greg Monroe, Roy Hibbard, Chandler Parsons=Olshey in desperation mode. Evan Turner was a byproduct of that. Giving FOUR year deals out, also a byproduct. Dude is most definitely not outthinking anyone.

Kanter can flat out score. Just for that - he would be the #1 target imho - just give the 2nd unit another scorer with a bit of a different flavor.

And he’s a big time offensive rebounder. I just wonder what kind of offers he’s going to get. He might be able to find a bigger role elsewhere.

I don't agree with you on that at all. Kanter was on record saying he wanted to play in OKC. If the Blazers had got him they would not have lost either. They needed a player like him at the time. You guys are poor at remembering what was said. People here wanted Kanter. They also said Turner was a good sign until he didn't work. Not every player trade and signing works out. Sometimes players don't fit well. Sometimes they play really well to get a contract and then lay down until their next contract year. A GM can only keep trying to find a good fit and a player that works hard. The rest is a crap game. Rolls of the dice. I've seen 7 come up 5 times in a row. I have seen a shooter not crap out for over 30 mins. I made money of the hot shooter and i lost on 5 7's in a row. Nobody at the table thought another 7 was coming up. But it did. Was not the shooters fault. Just happens that way.

You must be a pro-Olshey, revisionist-history propagandist.

Correct. That is no bull and you are no propagandist.

I remember. But Kanter sucked for that money. I punched my steering wheel when I heard the news. The only argument to be made is that Kanter used us for a bigger contract. Olshey/Blazers gained nothing from that exchange. It certainly didn't hogtie OKC in any way.

Besides, if that were true, that Olshey was out there trying to fucked up other people's books, then fuck him for not paying attention to his own books.

He'd be our second best big in the regular season. But teams would P&R him to death in his 15 mpg in the playoffs. You saw what SA did to Leonard last night. That's about what we can expect in the playoffs.

This wouldn't happen with Rolo. He's like Nurk only slightly worse in pretty much every aspect of the game. Having a Nurk and Nurk 2.0 on the court for 48 mpg in the playoffs is incredible.
