This is what about 26-29 GMs are saying this particular trade deadline. Expecting sellers to prefer rehabbing value in the future and buyers to balk at sending out firsts.

Fun times.

What a load of shit :pokecrap:
I think it makes a decent amount of sense, personally. I don't see him saying we have to trade the picks. I think his is all a hypothetical IF we're a part of the trade, it does make sense to move 29, sandwiching the one we give up with owning 28 and 30. And it does make sense to try to get swaps from NYK, or whoever ended up with Giannis, for the same reason we want Mil. picks, Giannis is aging.

AS I HAVE SAID: Giannis is going to fall off a cliff in a couple of years at most (see Howard, Dwight), and I really don't see him bringing us a championship in that time, so why mortgage our future for maybe the second round of the playoffs for a couple years? Maybe if this was three years ago I'd be interested.

Bucks said to want a "blue chip prospect" and picks. Am sure the blue is starting to fade slightly from Scoot, but...

it'd probably be shaedon since scoot's trade value probably isn't high enough rn with the injury.

(I want to keep Shaedon around; I think he is flawed but the macro stats show that he's continuing to improve and is decent vs. the rest of his draft class.

This is the move I'd rather do. It would be the first time in 20+ years that we actually had a legit shot at a ring. I'd take a shot at a ring over being mediocre for another 10 years.

I think this team could win a ring next year (if they stay healthy)

Dame
Tou
Deni
Giannis
Clingan

That's one of the best starting fives in the league.

Jrue and Shae coming off the bench. We would need to add some other bench pieces. Hopefully another 3&D wing. We would need a legit 40%+ shooter.

I would want 4 FRPs in a Shaedon, Scoot and Clingan for Bridges trade.

I wouldn't trade Shaedon for Bridges straight up. I think Shaedon has way more upside. I don't think I'd do Scoot and Clingan for Bridges, they'd have to give us picks in that one.

I'll say it again, our focus should not be on what Dame's championship window is, or what Jrue's is. It should be about Deni's and Shae's and Clingan's and even Scoot's.

That's right. Blazers need to Build Around Deni. A true 2-way player who is All Star-level on offense.

He just turned 25 years old on January 3rd.

So... we got Giannis without giving up ANY of those? I think people are really overvaluing those Bucks picks

Also: remember how "well" Dame and Giannis worked?

Ask yourself "would Sam Presti do this?" And if the answer is no (and it is) then you shouldn't do it.

Remember when this team had beat writers who would break rumors or come out and say if a rumor was true or not?

Like two decades ago it seems :grouch:

So the picks appear more confusing than they are - just giving the Bucks back their swaps, their 2029 pick and also gives them the unprotected 2028 Orlando pick. Scoot and Yang give them a couple interesting players that honestly are hard to envision seeing in our depth chart next season.

I've seen people put RWIII in a trade but I'd rather send out Thybulle. Bucks don't care at all about this season. Now if we want to get Portis or something maybe put both Thybulle and RWIII in the deal which MIL probably doesn't care either way - they might even prefer the offseason salary savings.

This gives us the roster spots to sign Love and Sidy, as well as one extra spot.

I don't think it makes sense to give up any of Deni/Camara/Clingan as we really need them to contend with Giannis. Jrue probably doesn't have much value elsewhere but would be good trio with Dame/Giannis.

I think this is probably the type of trade you have to pull the trigger on just because MVP level players in Giannis are so rarely available to a small market like Portland. But honestly our youth and those Bucks picks might be the far better value in a few years time.

I do wish we could have seen more of Scoot as a Blazer. Would the above be enough for the Bucks? If not would Sharpe in place of Scoot change that? Would the Bucks demand both of them?

Giving up both of them plus 2 swaps and 2 unprotected picks is an awful lot. I don't see how any other team comes close to that offer. I probably hold firm that the Bucks can only pick one of Scoot or Sharpe with all those picks. If they want both we wait until the summer. Yes we'd like Giannis but we don't need to pay way more than any other team would.

Jrue
Sharpe
Camara
Deni
Giannis

Thats a pretty awesome small ball lineup to make a playoff push this year - even with Dame on IR.

It is interesting if we give the Bucks their swaps back, that 2029 pick, and Orlando 2028 unprotected they have basically resolved all their debt of picks.

2026 This draft they get worse of their pick or Pelicans which both would be nice lottery picks.
2027 -1 pick yes the Bucks lose their unprotected - but with their pick and Orlando the following year they'd be able to make a move at the draft if their really high on someone.
2028 +1 pick they have two picks - theirs unprotected and Orlando unprotected.

All the other years the Bucks own their own picks. This coming from a franchise that made a decade of title runs and won a title while mortgaging tons of future picks. Pretty good to recoup that as well as a couple exciting young lottery prospects.

Plus the story of Dame trying to win one with Giannis in Mil - and then the Bucks/Mil returning the favor. I think there is legit goodwill from all sides that could contributing to this deal getting done. None of these teams want to help Giannis go to Miami.

If the Blazers trade for Giannis will people claim this was Cronin's long term 4D chess plan all along?

He "Gave" the Bucks Dame but ensured the Blazers got all the assets to control where Giannis eventually gets traded.

I know the thought of getting Giannis is exciting, but his recent injuries have got me hoping we don't. I think his body is starting to wear down and he'll continue to miss more and more games with injuries.
