You thinking this is Westbrook hate is misplaced. It is respect for what I feel very confident Scoot will be.

First, every player is speculation to some degree. Paul George and Kawhi were no-brainers for the Clippers, but what have they done for the Clippers ... and please don't say "Well, the injuries ...." Injuries happen. Fit happens. It's part of the game and part of the player.

Second, you did kind of make my point. I replied to a post comparing Scoot to Westbrook because of the outside shot. It's speculation that he won't get more proficient out there, too. He might actually be BETTER than we think. But I look at Westbrook and Ja Morant and I see PGs who don't shoot particularly well who have more than overcome it.

Would you like a Ja Morant without the gun posts? Would you like a Westbrook that doesn't talk too much trash and disappear in crunch time?

I look at Scoot and I see a guy that at the beginning of the season was considered a potential challenger for Wemby for the No. 1 overall pick. Like you said, Wemby is a unicorn and pegasus and kraken all rolled into one. Yet a 6-3 guard was considered so good that some basketball experts thought he might be on THAT level? And he didn't do anything to change those opinions. Miller had a great year to rise to that level, and Wemby just played like everyone thought he would.

If I didn't know anything else, that'd be all I need to know. There's every reason to believe this kid is special, too, and it'd be smart for everyone to start focusing on what he brings to the table over a detail or two that he might not.
I get what your saying. Hey, i hope the Nets think as you do as well. It will make it easier to go after Bridges. When i watch the highlights, i see Donovan Mitchell Lite. That's very good. Maybe he will be great. Who knows. But we have great, and need to surround him with some gusto. We don't need Scoot.

Wemby is the most hyped prospect since Lebron and Skylar Mays is 25. Use some common sense.
So he's 25. He can play at the NBA level as a potential quality back up right now. I don't see Scoot as a generational player.

If you look at Scoot and see Donovan Mitchell, yeah, there's really not anything to discuss. Scoot has much more of an all-around game and will make the rest of the players around him better. I'm not really sure what someone is looking at to watch him and see Spida, so we're coming at this obviously from far different perspectives and I don't think we'll ever come close to see eye to eye.

Then just say you don't view Scoot as a generational player. Quit bringing up that he played in the g league like it means something. He put up more points and assists per game at age 18 in the G league than Skylar Mays did at 25. It isn't the insult you think it is.

I think we haven't seen any indication that Cronin will stray from the path of trying to find veteran help for Lillard. Not sure if we can get anyone better than Siakam. I liked the trade somebody suggested of Simons and the 3rd for Siakam and the 13th. Also try to add a shotblocking, rebounding banger, somebody like Williams of the Celtics or Mitchell Robinson.
Exactly. Siakam is a fantastic talent. He's exactly what the Blazers need. Bridges as well. Getting either for the # 3 plus a player would be a win. Mitchell Robinson is too up and down. Williams will probably stay in Boston. And needs to stay healthy.

Then Blazers need to find somebody with similar energy and hops and go get them.

I can see this as well.
When I have watched Scoot - he's good, but he doesn't jump off the screen as a generational talent.

I see Donovan Mitchell Lite. Said that. That means a lesser player.

I'm hearing rumors that Wemby has one leg 3" longer than the other and he likes to drive around with so many guns it would scare Ja Morant.

Also, his real birth certificate says he's 38yrs old.

Hopefully, someone tells the Spurs about all of this.

How much of this thinking have to do with Wemby?

If Wemby were not in this draft, how would we think of Scoot? Would he be a consensus #1?

I kinda get the feeling that we all are diminishing the value of 3 just because it's not Wemby. Like... Is Miller the same caliber of prspect as a Jayson Tatum? If so, there is no way I'm trading that and Ant for Siakam. Or, is Scoot like DRose or Russ? Then we need to seriously consider keeping them. I haven't definitively decided yet, but something to consider. The 3 pick in any draft has a ton of value.

All I know is we have to trade dame.

When the season starts he’ll be 33. We’ll have max 3 productive years left with him. Shit 3 years is less than standard rookie contracts run for. Think about how fast 3 years flies by. 3 years ago the pandemic also started for example. It’s not personal it’s business

Zero.
I have Scoot ranked 5th or 6th on my big board.

I would rather exploit the consensus narrative around him that he's an amazing talent.

With the Knicks pick, maybe the Blazers draft Grady Dick. I've been calling for a dead eye dick off the bench who can nail the jumper with ease.

The Portland Trail Blazers finished the 2022-23 season with the fifth-worst record and moved up in the lottery to land the No. 3 pick of the 2023 NBA Draft.

Portland, in an effort to continue building a contending roster around its star Damian Lillard, is expected to make the pick available for a trade, league sources tell Bleacher Report.

The franchise is in the process of evaluating the market for the No. 3 pick as well as examining incoming rookie prospects that are attainable at No. 3, sources say.

"[The third pick] is significant," Trail Blazers general manager Joe Cronin said. "There's going to be some really good players at three that could be great for us or somebody else, depending on how we approach this draft."

Lillard, the franchise's all-time leading scorer, has communicated to the front office of his desire to bring in veteran players to facilitate a fleet turnaround from the two previous seasons of underachieving, sources say.

The Trail Blazers and Lillard seem to be on the same page right now.

This is from Chris Haynes, so you know it's really from Lillard's camp.

Not sure. Miller is highly touted.

It still comes down to how they are projected for the future. They all need to work on something to be a contributor in the playoffs in 2-3 years.
None of them are ready now. We often look at Kobe as an example as he was not great his first year....but his work ethic and drive were special.
We as fans have no clue at this point what the makeup is for this draft class. Victor is special because of his height/length. Scoot is special because of his explosiveness. But they both need to work their asses off. Same with Miller. He looked good at times and bad in their last game. it just comes down to projecting how much better they will be in a few years.

Naw. 1st , we don't know if he only has 3 productive years left. 2nd, Dame is not the Average Joe B Ball talent wise. 3rd, generation talent is rarely replaced.

Keep an eye on Brooklyn. Even Mike Richman has said he's talked to folks around the league to keep an eye on Brooklyn as a Dame destination, and Mike never talks rumors.

Basically, Brooklyn has the same decision to make as us. Go all in with their assets, or take a big step back and rebuild. Both Portland and Brooklyn are flipping the same coin. Heads/Tails = One team going all in and the other going rebuild.

If we trade the pick, I would look for it to Brooklyn. If we trade Dame, I would also look for it to be to Brooklyn.

Would Scoot be a poor man’s Westbrook? I’m hesitant that he would be the right choice.
I'm with you. I like Scoot's potential. But there are certainly red-flags.
- He ranked 425 out of 464 total players Defense rating in G League (118.4).
- 3.3 turnovers per game.
- Only a 14.7 PER in the G-League.
- His G-League team only went 11-21, even though he was surrounded by a few good players like Leonard Miller.

If Brandon Miller is off the board, I'd certainly look to trade down and pick up one of the Thompson twins or perhaps Taylor Hendricks. I think they're a better fit for the team.

He will be long gone. Isn't he projected in the top 10? His combine measurables did not hurt him.

True. Last year Banchero was good from the get go. Most of the other highly touted players were inconsistent with their effort, and production. I do think Wemby will be good out of the gate because he's been a pro in Europe since he was 15. Similar to Luka's experience in the Euro Pro Leagues .

They're dance partners for sure. But Cronin better talk to 28 other teams

So #21 and #22 for Dame. That is the kind of shit that we can expect.

It would be like:

Cam Johnson S&T + 21/22 + 2 more future picks (maybe one of them would be a far out PHX pick that actually has a chance to be good) and then matching salary (Dinwiddie?).

Yeah it would hurt, and I don't think Dame or the FO prefer this option, but it's the nuclear option if all else fails.

If Brooklyn doesn't give us any of their 5 first round picks for Dame what the hell are they giving us? Ben Simmons? LMAO

They just traded Durant for Bridges and 4 picks but this guy thinks they can get a superstar for 0 useful picks....

No he’s saying that is what would be ideal for Brooklyn. A deal both teams would make is probably somewhere in the middle. Brooklyn owns a lot of picks between now and 2029.

I'm sure they're reading this forum. If they didn't know before, they do now.
