There is no doubt in mind a deal will be available. Jody will be talked into thinking it is a good trade. (at least in the beginning) The question is how many of us are going to like it? No move will make us all happy.
 
More cold water thrown on any hope of getting Bridges:
Brooklyn owes unprotected picks to Houston in 2024 and 2026 and unprotected swaps in 2025 and 2027. Thus, Brooklyn trading its good players and tanking would do a lot more for the Rockets than the Nets. Brooklyn’s likely best path forward is to muddle along with a Bridges-centric team, especially since he’s signed through 2026 to one of the league’s best contracts.

Or.......because the Nets are screwed by not having their own picks they will need to start over with young players and other teams' picks. I think you can make a case for trading Bridges for even younger players and picks. Brooklyn is a city that can draw free agents that could help in a few years.

I hear you. There were also some major differences between the 84'-85' Bulls and this current Blazer teams. For every example of a 30 win team making a big jump in two years by simply standing pat with their young core, there are more examples of the young core treading water.

Ultimately, I hope you are right, and that the Blazers have a young core destined to win 6 championships down the road together. Because of the talent, CBA, and market, I think anything close to that is a long shot.

For this reason, I've assumed tanking makes no sense for the Nets. However, on the same hand, if the Nets know they have no control over their picks for the next 4 drafts, their best chance is trade for a top pick.

The point about Bridges contract being an asset is a major plus for the Nets if they're looking to build around him via FA.

Going to be tough for Cronin to pull of a great deal.

I don't necessarily agree. I think a lot of these articles and quotes coming out are reporters carrying water for Marks to help drive up the price. Bridges is a great player, but he's 26 now and not a potential FRANCHSIE player. With no control over their own draft for the next few years, the opportunity to get a Top 3 pick in a 3 player draft is the best chance they will have to control their own destiny and add a premium young talent for many years...factor in you are also getting a 23 year old who is one of the best shooters in the NBA on a nice contract...it's a no brainer. This time of the year it is all about who is writing what and who is likely feeding them info, etc.

I don't think it's going to be that tough. The value of that 3 rd pick is beginning to skyrocket. We will all know more once tMiller & Scoot come in for their workouts. I'm sure Dame will be a part of those to see if there's some chemistry there. If there is, it's likely the Blazers will keep the pick, and look at a potential Ant/ unlocked picks deal as well.

We 100% agreenthat the majority of stuff written between now and the draft will have some agenda behind it. We also agree this is their best chance at the #3 pick, as I said as much in my post.

It's still a tricky situation for the Nets (and the Blazers).

It should net an all-star calliber player. What players are available? Are they a good fit on the roster? Are they willing to commit to Portland for more than 1-2 years?

That's the tricky part.

Nets are high, and due to their ,all in on the Mercenary Boys, they've screwed themselves and are trying to get over other teams. If they end up wanting Scoot, they will have to come down on their asking price. The way Scoot & Miller are being talked up, the Nets will be lucky to get a package of the #3 and Ant.

I think players will. Especially with Carmelo having such a good experience. That means something. Plus Dame. Dame has a ton of cred.

I can't believe people here are believing any of the 'leaks', rumors, and speculation about the intentions of any NBA front office. Hint: they lie; then they lie again; then they lie some more. Every single NBA front office right now has 3 priorities:

1) analyzing the value of their draft pick(s) and the draft prospects;
2) inflating the value of their own assets in any way they can;
3) tanking the value of other team's assets they may have interest in obtaining

being honest & truthful isn't on any of the 30 NBA team agendas right now. About the only thing, at all, you can take to the bank is that the Spurs will draft Wemby. After that it's smoke-mirrors-bullshit

another thing: we know how the so-called experts are evaluating the draft prospects. A lot of group-think right now. But we don't know how NBA teams are evaluating this draft yet. They may view it as a deep draft; or a 3 prospect draft; or a 1 prospect draft. Only one of those scenarios increases the value of the Blazer pick over it's generic value....which is pretty high by the way

I like Ant but I can see why they would want more. Hell, we all prefer that he comes off the bench.
However, we would drag Joe through the streets if he traded Sharpe and #3 for Bridges. There is no doubt in my mind the Nets would take it if offered.

And, to make matters worse, there is no real consensus on who will be taken #2. That adds a lot of uncertainty to who will be available at #3, which absolutely affects the value of the pick.

Cronin is going to have to have at minimum three things ready when the Blazers hit the clock for #3
  1. What is the best offer on the table if Scoot is available at #3?
  2. What is the best offer on the table if Miller is available at #3?
  3. Who will they pick at #3 if they don't like the trade offer?
I'm assuming #3 will be fairly easy. Options #1 and #2 will need to be well vetted and sorted out prior to draft night.

Substitute "Brooklyn" with "Detroit" and "Mikal Bridges" with "Jerami Grant", and we've seen this dog and pony show before.

No offense to the Nets, but 27 games is not a big enough sample size to show that Bridges is worth more than Simons + a pick.

During that 27 games, the team was *below* .500

They aren't in a position of power, especially since it's rumored that he doesn't want to stay there. (At least, if you believe certain voices).

I think as things continue to come into focus, that's what we're going to see. The Celtics, Raptors and Nets, thinking the Blazers are being forced to give away the third pick, are going to take a stance that it's going to take a sweetheart deal for them to trade Brown, Siakam or Bridges. The Blazers won't bite. Dame will see Scoot and Miller work out and recognize they've got the talent to come along and advance the team more quickly than a typical player one year out of high school and realize he has more than two good years in him.

The Blazers will make the pick and move ahead with who they drafted. They'll explore improving the roster by trading Ant, Nurk and various spare parts. That might eventually bring an OG, but the Blazers also need to be seeking a legit big to either pair with Nurk or two legit bigs to replace Nurk and pair with his replacement. The other thing the team will try to do is bring in a steady vet to provide insurance at the point or as a combo guard in the absence of Ant and while Shaedon continues to mature.
