When I proposed it wasn't really all that sophisticated. She was at work. I got off early and got a cake I had ordered, some really nice flowers, a couple other gifts, a card, some gifts, and a small feast and set the table up in our dining room with it all on there real nice.

Lived in a studio apartment then. You could see the table from the door, but had to go around a corner to see the kitchen. I waited till I saw her coming up the walk, and I knelt in the kitchen on one knee with the ring box open. I had two cats then and they sat on either side of me (not laying, actually sitting up... I didn't even tell them too, they just somehow knew what to do). So, she walks in sees the table and walks around the corner and sees me kneeling there with the cats, holding up the open ring box, and she started to cry happy tears and said yes.

Mine was a little more involved. I proposed at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, on Valentine's Day which is also her birthday. We had a few days off and I knew I wanted to pop the question there, so I looked at flights and weren't so bad pricewise, etc. We were only in Italy like 3 or 4 days total and then COVID hit.

IMO Straight up traditional solid gold >>>>>>

Congrats, my friend!

How long have you two been going out?

Does she have a hot sister or mom who likes dogs?

...

You got Costco?

Take her to Costco, as you wander around the store go over to the jewelry cabinet and pretend to look at a watch for you. Then pick out a woman's piece of jewelry that you legit think is ugly. Point it out to her and say that. Then use that as a way to start a conversation about the type and styles of jewelry she likes. Point out necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. Women love to talk about jewelry. You'll quickly learn her likes and dislikes and you can use that to buy the ring.

Not saying you should buy from Costco but they do have very fair and honest deals. The Costco thing works great vs taking her directly to a jewelry store because she'll instantly know something is up.

Jesus christ don't listen to Sly. Pretty sure he has stock in Costco.

Have you guys had a conversation about marriage? Like... it's not going to be a complete surprise, is it? Proposing probably shouldn't be a surprise. It's about how you do it and when you do it that should be surprising. Have the talk, tell her you'd like to go look at rings so you can get an idea of her taste.

My wife knew I was going to propose at some point. That part wasn't surprising to her. The surprise was how I did it.

My wife used to model. She had some pretty cool campaigns for Adidas. I had a couple guys I know who are actors pretend to be casting agents and I had her agent schedule a fake casting. My wife loves Cinderella so I bought a really cool glass slipper replica. We actually got permission to use a little theater over in SE Portland for our scheme. She showed up, my fake casting agents told her that the job was for a photo shoot of Disney princesses around Portland. They snapped a few photos and then told her that they had a stand-in for Prince charming. I walked out with the glass slipper and the ring. The look on her face was priceless. The only real downside was that she was super bummed that there wasn't actually a Disney princess photo shoot

I ended up getting this. Will probably pick up some various silicone rings too. Degloving is rare but it's also fucking terrifying.

The rings I got her are beautiful, btw.

These were the good silicone rings I got

ROQ Silicone Rings for Men 1/4/6 Multipack of Breathable Mens Silicone Rubber Wedding Rings Bands - Step Edge https://a.co/d/i4yaDXK

Not a fan of wearing them though. Barely can tell they are on

Got used to the metal on the finger

It's interesting how quickly I got use to wearing the metal and I've never worn any jewelry, watches or anything. I've always hated having jewelry on but have even got use to golfing with the ring on, which felt really weird at first.

First anniversary is coming up. Not sure what to get the wifey. I think traditionally its something "paper". I told her I'd get her a magazine????

Learn how to fold an origami version of her favorite animal, and then place them all over the house.

You've described yourself to perfection. Now I know. I'm sorry if I'm the Matthew Modine type in Full Metal Jacket.

Any recos? I gotta start the process to find one.

I'm thinking of getting a simple platinum ring.

Probably gonna look around. Are the designer names worth it (Tiffany, Cartier, etc) or should I just go with some smaller name who specializes in wedding bands?

What do y'all have or your experiences with them?
There's nothing like a ring of pure gold. It has an unmistakable gold color.
