I think Wenyen’s got some raw potential, but its still really raw. Its really hard to project him because I honestly have no idea what the work ethic is like or his personality. Hope the best for him, in Portland or otherwise.

Yeah, Gabriel still has a ways to go. It always amazes me how some in this forum tends to overhype young players who haven't really proven anything yet.

What I have read is that he has a very strong work ethic.. Doesn't look as if he has an exaggerated ego either.

Is saying Gabriels defense is "average" overhyping him?
Honest thoughts on Gabriel in the very limited time Ive seen him. Raw athleticism is there. He does need to get stronger. Offensively he’s kind of invisible, at least he’s not forcing stuff but he’s got a ways to go.
Defensively he moves his feet well, needs to learn some discipline on team defense and not reaching.
This is one where I dont really blame Stotts though. Brand new in the middle of the year almost no tape on him professionally, a total wild card that he probably has no idea what he’s got, he’s barely even practiced with them. Now a guy like Little who’s had a training camp and a half a season seems like Stotts has no excuses there when it comes to if he thinks Little is doing what he should be or not.

He is raw on offense but watching him in G-league he is capable to have offense game. He has some good defense instinct with moving his feet keeping in front of his guy. But right now the game is moving fast for and looks like he trying to go that fast but it seems he gets out of control. But I would like to see him on summer league team and if does find sign him to non guarantee contract.

Little needs to be playing more. He had more offense upside than Gabriel. But Gabriel has Little when it comes to defense.

Wow, escapes the headlock, tips his rebound to McCollum for a 2nd try, rebounds the miss, time to pass out...No! I'm going up for the 3rd try against FOUR opponents!

Yeah, this guy is just a defensive player!

(Give Stotts a month to teach him to never shoot that closely again.)

Hezonja playing against any one of these guy is fucking criminal

Hezonja would be better for a team like the Celtics - or perhaps Raptors. Deep on the bench of a solid team with solid bench. We have a young and very weak bench and his game just doesn't fit. He doesn't fit on the Blazers.

The most startling thing in that play is CJ missing Ant wide open on the wing when he put up that contested reverse instead.

I'm not one to usually defend CJ, but on this specific play I don't blame CJ on this at all.

Simons vacated the corner on the initial shot & was 1-2 steps slow in making it back. He wasn't there in time.

I like it. That play showed how the league used to be. National NBA TV ratings have decreased for about 4 straight years.

Before the "modern" era (the last 8 years; Stotts pioneered it), McCollum or Gabriel passing up such close shots would have been considered sissy-play. The same for big men who shot from outside instead of strongly taking it inside: Rasheed Wallace and Aldridge were often criticized by Blazer fans for that.

That shot looks...repeatable? Shot 38% in 50 g league games.

Also saw him isolated on Hayward defensively on one possession and locked him down.

Then the drive and assist to Biggie late in the game.

Dude is a player. Has flashed more in his limited time than Hezonja has all season.

I love that he didnt hesitate. Shot motion IMO looks good.

And....don't forget...
Not only can he make a shot, but nobody on this team is better at fouling.
I got absolutely nothing against the kid, and I'm pulling for him cos he does hustle...but c'mon guys....he's a 9th or 10th guy at best, on any team.

Well in this forum it's hype the end of the bench players and dog those that are actually producing not named Lillard.

if you’ve got nothing against him then you should probably put things into perspective first. If fouls are your biggest gripe about a rookie, then his outlook is pretty good. How many fouls did Joel Embiid average his rookie year? Zach? Nurkic? I mean the list goes on but those are just three examples.

Where he is consistent is going to the ball and grabbing rebounds, something the team really needs.
