The thing is this is the one thing Joe has been good at... selling off veteran players with value for a fair return. I'll be pissed if he doesn't do it again because I honestly think that it will either be indolence or just a complete lack of direction, trying to straddle a line or some shit like that. I'm well aware it's very possible so I'm already prepared for the disappointment. Hopefully we'll both be pleasantly surprised.

It's coming across more as "I need to say I never said what I made it look like I was saying for months so I don't get crushed on it than to actually have a better defense of the position."

There absolutely have been people saying if Brogdon isn't traded by the deadline it's a complete failure and indictment on Cronin. You know how I come to this conclusion? Because this has been discussed in multiple threads ever since Brogdon was acquired and if someone truly was advocating "as long as we get meaningful compensation and only as long as that" then they would have had ample opportunity to qualify that before now.

A true rebuild you’d want to collect as many picks as possible. It opens doors to be very flexible in future trades and allows to find good players in the draft, if they do their homework. Presti and Ainge have been successful at this.

However, with the drafting of Kris Murray in the first round I’m not so sure I completely trust our front office to knock it out of the park in the draft. He has zero upside and is most likely on his last NBA contract

Sure that’s true in a sense. mid that’s the case you can probably get that deal next year too while teams are trying to shed salary…if not a better deal

I'm one of those people. I don't think Joe would have to take anything less than fair value for Malcolm right now and if he can get that and doesn't, I view it as a big mistake.

I'm sure the Blazers have gotten offers, but are probably waiting for the best one.

I'd have gladly seen Olshey trade a 1st for Brogdon back in our pre-tanking days.

People who think his value is worth more than a first round pick in this draft.

People who think we should take the first round pick but not if there's nothing out there that's fair value.

I haven't seen anyone say we should dump him for nothing.

I’d even break it down further and dilineate between 24 firsts and future firsts.

For Malcolm I think it's a future first rounder with little to no protection and expirings, more if we take on bad contracts. For Jerami I'd expect twice as much. Obviously if it's young prospects instead or in combination with that level of draft compensation that would work too.

Maybe there was a disconnect, maybe I missed it somewhere, but I definitely have gotten the idea that you've been saying trade Brogdon for whatever you can get back, that there's enough compensation in getting the younger players more minutes to override taking back players in trade that never will do much of anything for Portland.

I'm also thinking that any team willing to trade for Brogdon would have very little chance of being in the lottery anyway

Yeah, I would be OK with that because the teams that have been rumored to want Malcolm and any other team that makes sense for him is going to be in the playoffs either all of the next three years or at least one of them.

Well some of you may get your wish and depending on the return, maybe most of us. I really feel Brogdon sitting out is more than just for his knee. If we are trading him, now is not the time to sit him for an injury, unless it’s for other reasons.
