What will it take for Chauncey to get fired?

This is a disgrace of a thread. I think Chauncey is doing a good job and I’m glad he is the coach.

Doubling down eh? Lol.

Question #1: So when will the temperature in Portland get back above freezing?

Question #2: Will the temps get back to freezing tomorrow, the next day, or sometime after that?

Yeah... totally different questions. lol. Come on bro.
Haha, ya doubling down and going into a deeper hole. The joke is on him now lol

So one is what will it take to get him fired and one is how long a leash he should have?
Hmmmmm sound kind of like the same question? I guess you could say it’s different but I’m not sure you could sell that at Walmart.
First question (how long a leash should be have?) is asking when we, the fans, believe he should be ousted.

Second question (what will it take for him to be fired?) is asking under what circumstances his employers, the front office, actually will act upon his employment status.

Two very different questions indeed.

It’s pretty apparent that Chauncey coaches “better” when he plays veteran players who actually stick with his game plan. Imagine that. Last night, the Blazers were on point both offensively and defensively. This place goes nuts if he doesn’t play the young guys extensive minutes and then, when he does, calls for his head on a platter when they play like crap. Conflicted much?

But remember when Chauncey was hired and his record was terrible? Then the excuse was "the veterans don't listen but he's good for developing the young guys." I get that you qualified your claim with "who actually stick with his game plan" but part of being a good coach is MAKING SURE YOUR PLAYERS STICK WITH THE GAME PLAN.

So, who exactly makes up the ideal Chauncey team? Are we to believe he's really a great coach, just for players he's fated never to have?

I think a team of Brogdon-type vets:

“The most mentally tough guys in the league go through challenges and have to adjust with different teams in different roles while persevering regardless,” Malcolm Brogdon explained to HoopsHype. “My goal is to persevere no matter what role I’m put in.” “At times, it’s been tough, but there’s something very gratifying about coming to a team where your voice and leadership is really valued and you play a different role,” Brogdon told HoopsHype. “I’m embracing that role. I enjoy playing with these young guys. They’re hungry and want to win. They’re incredibly coachable. More than anything, I enjoy being under Chauncey’s wing and being coached by him. I have the most respect for him. He’s a guy I’d run through a wall for.

Very.

We've heard this a lot over the past 3 years. A whole bunch of guys wanna run through a wall for Chauncey. I just wish they'd rebound for him instead.

His record was terrible when we hired him? What? This is his first coaching gig lol

Why aren’t the mods merging this with his other Billups thread? Clean this place up a little

Having the right guys out there helps. Ayton and Walker is a pair that is always going to get more boards than Reath and Grant. I am pretty sold on Grant at SF after the past two games.

I hold out some hope after back to back wins that Chauncey is starting to learn to be a coach. Jury is still out for me but I don't see his old Colorado buddy firing him anytime soon.

Expand on that so others can bash his thoughts?

Cause that’s what gonna happen with the Billups haters
Just curious what he's doing well...

This is a discussion forum, is it not? If the thread is so ridiculous why not prove it by backing up that claim and offering some support for it?

Or I guess you could just bash on people who disagree with you and leave it at that.

There is good things many have said about Billups during the season already, funny enough in his other Billups thread.

I even posted in there when that thread went quiet for a while and Billups had the guys playing hard and pointed it out. Many said they will eat crow from what they said about him earlier. and I bumped the thread because I knew when we starting losing and going through a rough stretch again people would start to bash him again, and here we are.

Yes some have wanted Billups gone for a while and maybe you as well but it’s the same old story of harping and bashing on things in here when we are going through a rough stretch. Same with people with Scoot, people are souring on Ayton too. Maybe people’s expectations were too high.

Reading negative views over and over get tiresome and yes losing isn’t fun but others would rather focus on the positives because things are gonna be ugly for a while before things get better and that’s just fact regardless what coach we have.

Understood. I was just wondering what was specifically good since the post was made and this thread called out as being ridiculous.

I've not been impressed with Billups since he was hired. Not that I necessarily want him fired right now, but I want a concerted effort to hire some incredible trainers and up and comers who will supplant him.

Brooks ain't it.

Billups is the ultimate Tank Commander, comical ending in OKC tonight :biglaugh:

Chauncey had a career drtg of 107 and was a 2 X second team All-Defensive player. Pretty sure that he understands how a defense is supposed to work. Why that's not getting translated to the team is a subject for debate.

Could we seriously get blown out of every single remaining game without him losing his job? I mean, it's not like this draft is worth tanking for. Scoot would be runaway #1 pick if he was declaring this year.
Chauncey has the most comfortable job in the league. He won’t be fired. Everything is going according to plan. And Scoot is being mentored by a FMVP PG.

Danny Larue from dunc’d on had an interesting point about coaches—basically, he was saying that orgs don’t cycle through coaches enough. That the goal of any org should be to have one of the 10 best coaches in the league, and teams should be aggressive in trying out different coaches and discarding them as soon as it’s apparent they aren’t on that trajectory. Almost all great coaches show greatness early, and teams should be rapidly going through different options each season or two until one hits.

Agree 100%. If you can make the argument that you have a top 10 coach then you should probably keep them.

Otherwise, what's the point in keeping them?
