I'm not sure the Blazer discussions with Philly for Okafor are over.

Greg Monroe discussions might also get resurrected from the past.

Since the pelicans trade fell through and only three days left till the deadline, the 76ers are going to be working hard to move him. Maybe Olshey is waiting to snag him for less.

I'm not sure if I'd rather have Okafor or Monroe. It partially depends on what it will cost. Okafor is younger, Monroe is more offensively inclined. Who would fit better next to Nurkic, probably Monroe. Though I'd prefer Okafor.

I'd even take a look at Larry Sanders

I would to but he's not really available to the Blazers due to how far over the Cap they are. Since they can't trade for him, he would be difficult to get .

Neil has to make some moves first

Monroe? No way can he play PF with Nurk or vice versa, and he's a C, just don't see that at all especially with his contract. Okafor for the "value" aspect and relatively cheap next few years and the possibility he develops I can see. Doubt Okafor and Nurk can play much together but they can both play significant minutes. Still would prefer to have a more traditional PF or new wave stretch 4 with Nurk.

uuh...Monroe is a PF..he just doesn't play great defense..neither does Okafor who is also a PF
If we want defense at the 4 we have Chief who's better than both those guys on D

Running 3-2 hi-low motion offense would take care of a Monroe/Okafor and Nurk line up. If done correctly it would open up a ton of easy 3's, or teams would get bludgeoned down low. No one would be bitching about FT disparity anymore.

That is a similar offense to what we run anyway. Playoff success would be more likely as well.

no, he has played both in his career and fared better at C. Detroit tried him with Drummond and it did not work.

He's listed as a power forward /center on his stat sheet and several articles talk about how he defends power forwards really well but fails on defense at the center position....Drummond and he were not complimentary as a front court...I think he's a better power forward than center anyday

If the plan is to keep Dame and CJ, then we cannot take on another defensive liability. Here are 6'9" or taller forwards/centers who shoot > 30% from 3pt on at least 2 attempts per game, with defensive ratings at or lower than 105:

1 Al Horford
2 Paul George
3 Kevin Love
4 Marvin Williams
5 Marc Gasol
6 Chris Bosh
7 DeMarcus Cousins
8 Kristaps Porzingis
9 Kelly Olynyk
10 Nikola Mirotic
11 Frank Kaminsky
12 James Johnson
13 Joel Embiid
14 Robert Covington
15 Kris Humphries
16 Trey Lyles

This would strike me as a list we would want to look at.

If Taj Gibson is a fine PF why can't Chicago win with him? It's not like his supporting cast is worse than it would be in Portland. I mean I hear on this board that Butler and Lopez are good. Wade has played 48 games. IMO he is not going to help us.

Team Dysfunction is why they're not winning with Taj at PF.

You had me until #3...

If Millsap didn't cost too much, would anyone think it was a good idea to bring him in short term to help with Vonleh? That would make sense to me if the price was right.

Not at all. He would only help us this season and trading assets to do slightly better this year is not a good idea. We would still have no chance to win championship but our pick would fall to 13-15. We would probably still not make playoffs as Pelicans will likely be on a roll now that they have Cousins.

You think he is going to opt out? Maybe, but 21M is a lot of coin to leave on the table when you are 32.

If that is general logic is true, then we shouldn't make any trades right now and should wait until this summer. Which may be right.

I think it'll be great, but my assumption would be that he'd re-sign. Idk if that is the case.

I'm not in favor of trading for Millsap, but remember he was going to sign with us as a RFA back in the day, so we may have a chance of keeping him.

He will for sure opt out. He can get a better and longer offer in the Summer. A team like Nets would comfortably offer him a max deal because they cannot get anyone better. Same with Kings and basically everyone who has cap space.

Sorry, but I'm not seeing the Kings. Why would they want Millsap (old) and why would he want Sac (bad)?

I would take Okafor at a good discount but I also not sad if he goes somewhere else. Not giving them our pick. MEM pick at highest.

I'd just say fuck it and start Okafor at pf if we got him next to Nurk, spacing be damned.
