So, you are very much not on board with the notion of citizen gun-ownership as a deterrent to crime, I take it?

Not at all. I just want us all to be clear that there isn't a weapon in existence that doesn't signify violence. That's the purpose and definition of weapon.

Sure, but your comment of "those carrying them are expecting something" suggests that one cannot carry a weapon for the purpose of preventing violence, only for responding to it. I don't see that as an intellectually honest position.

At least we know now. Permit? Can't touch em.

No permit?

Kill them mother fuckers!!!!!!!

Not really true. An available weapon is not violent at all.

Like, if you come and begin to abuse me or mine, then even though I have no weapon, I will become as violent as required to stop your abuse.
But on the other hand, if I am armed and you know it, you probably mind your manors. No violence risked, none required.
Most people with a sound mind will assess the capabilities of their opposition. Most will seek to play a winning hand.

Make sure you have a permit to fight back.

I suppose I should add. Going to a Rally armed to prevent violence is not being of sound mind nor should you expect to find sound minds there.

All this racism and fascism talk has me thinking about that Lou Reed song where it goes "and all the colored girls sing doo da doo da doo...."

That needs changed. It is racist. I propose we change it to "all the liberals sing derp a derp a derp eeeee derp ..."

Ha! I don't know the song. But it is funny.

I know, these kids and their music today, right?

Actually, it's been out for 45 years now, I expect you probably heard it at some point in the background.

Interesting old-timey thing that the kids today probably don't get - the first line in the song is "Holly came from Miami F-l-a", spelling out the 3 letter abbreviation for Florida.

Song is older than me. Still a good song.

That Dire Straits song still gets played on the radio unedited as far as I know.

It says something like "that little zagger's got his own jet airplane that little zagger he's a millionaire"

I can't quite make out what the lyrics are but I think I'm pretty close.

thanks for the info.

Not at all. Defending ones self with a weapon is still violent, is it not?
And yes those hat carry a weapon for defensive purposes are expecting violence or they would not feel the need to carry a weapon to protect themselves.
Doesn't matter whether they think it's a1% chance they think they will need it or a 100% chance.
All weapons are for violence. Whether in defense or offense. So to carry a weapon means you expect violence at some point or you wouldn't carry a weapon.

I don't need no weapons. I'm this dude.

Ok, maybe not.

Again, you missed my point. I'm not talking about use of the weapon in a violent fashion, either defensively or offensively. I'm talking about violence being deterred as a result of the weapon's presence.

It's like parking a patrol car in a highly visible spot in the middle of a freeway median. There doesn't even have to be an officer inside the vehicle for 95+% of drivers to slow down upon seeing the car. It's not a measure of enforcement, but of prevention via the theoretical possibility of enforcement. I could (conceivably) accomplish a similar result regarding my own personal safety by carrying a highly-visible but unloaded handgun, without any intention of using it.

Okay, and I understand the deterant effect, but do you REALLY think its any type of deter ant at these rallies?
I think you are comparing apples to oranges in this instance.
At these rallies I don't see people showing up with sticks and batons and expect it to provoke peace.
I see them getting run over by cars and getting into conflicts left and right.
So I get your point, but I think your point is invalid in these instances.

Sure, in this instance, no argument there. I was simply taking exception with the claim that weapons have no purpose other than to be used in a violent fashion.

I think we're in agreement.

Sorry I should have clarified my original post. At these rallies, a weapon is a weapon is a weapon and only serves to instigate violence.

There's something more sinister happening than just Trump Derangement Syndrome.

How does one brainwash a huge portion of the population these days?

There has to be a reason for denial on such a massive scale.

You could post a story about an assault at a 49ers game and someone would say "unlike YOU, I was there and there were 20,000 people peacefully watching the game"

Trump's tweet saying thanks for people's spirit during a storm is retarded...... fuck.
I clearly posted Antifa videos from the Berkeley event so I don't get what she is saying. There were a lot of Antifa from the looks of it so this shit is confusing. Even the fucking Washington post finally did an article on it...

This is what happens when somebody has bias views that are very clear. It's an agenda. Stop spreading lies saying you went and it was peaceful because I clearly saw it wasn't and don't even make me mention when Berkeley go ape shit and shut down the event Milo was supposed to speak at a while back, professors even joining antifa and exposed losing their jobs. This shit is getting weird

Antifa had an ass whooping permit, duh. They were there just singing folk songs and a couple of Nazis must have shown up asking for a beat down. It's really obvious that the Nazis deserve it.

Have you seen The Boy in the Striped Pajamas?

I highly recommend it if you haven't. At the end, I'm like Kevin Durant...Tough shit. You have to see it to know what I'm talking about.

I think my reaction to that movie is enough proof that I hate Nazis. Don't gotta punch any.

I will go along with punching Nazis if I can bitchslap antifa too.

I was there Sunday in Berkeley, unlike Denny. 4000 people rallied peacefully. There were union contingents, congregations, families. A 95 year old Holocaust survivor came in memory of his 8 siblings who died. Because the fascist rally was labeled "no Marxism" (last month Sharia law was being imposed, this month Marxism) many people wore Groucho Marx masks. One man doubled down with a poster of Groucho Marx and John Lennon. There were speeches and music. The organizer of the fascist rally had asked supporters to not show up because they had no permit but some fascist showed up, clearly hoping for a physical confrontation. and some people obliged. So people like Denny can ignore the 4000 who protested peacefully.
Ooooops. MSNBC going full fake news now.

Good people on all sides.

'Antifa' violence in Berkeley becomes problem for left-wing activist community

Of the dozens of organizations that turned out for Sunday’s mass protest against racism here, one group was impossible to miss.

Its members dressed head to toe in black, with masked faces and some bearing pastel-painted riot shields that read “no hate.” These 100 or so militants billed themselves as a security force for progressive counter-protesters, vowing to protect them from far-right agitators.

But as the protest got underway, some of those in masks would resort to mob violence, attacking a small showing of supporters of President Trump and others they accused, sometimes inaccurately, of being white supremacists or Nazis.

The graphic videos of those attacks have spurred soul-searching within the leftist activist movement in the Bay Area and beyond. Emotions remain raw in the wake of this month’s white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., which left one woman dead and dozens injured.
