'Antifa' violence in Berkeley becomes problem for left-wing activist community

Of the dozens of organizations that turned out for Sunday’s mass protest against racism here, one group was impossible to miss.

Its members dressed head to toe in black, with masked faces and some bearing pastel-painted riot shields that read “no hate.” These 100 or so militants billed themselves as a security force for progressive counter-protesters, vowing to protect them from far-right agitators.

But as the protest got underway, some of those in masks would resort to mob violence, attacking a small showing of supporters of President Trump and others they accused, sometimes inaccurately, of being white supremacists or Nazis.

The graphic videos of those attacks have spurred soul-searching within the leftist activist movement in the Bay Area and beyond. Emotions remain raw in the wake of this month’s white
supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., which left one woman dead and dozens injured.
Not all the leftists are soul searching, not all.

I'm very glad I have men like bodyman around to tell me what happened at an event they did not go to.

Southern Poverty Law Center Transfers Millions in Cash to Offshore Entities
Left-wing nonprofit pays lucrative six-figure salaries to top management

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a liberal, Alabama-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization that has gained prominence on the left for its "hate group" designations, pushes millions of dollars to offshore entities as part of its business dealings, records show.

Additionally, the nonprofit pays lucrative six-figure salaries to its top directors and key employees while spending little on legal services despite its stated intent of "fighting hate and bigotry" using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is perhaps best known for its "hate map," a collection of organizations the nonprofit deems "domestic hate groups" that lists mainstream conservative organizations alongside racist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and is often referenced in the media. A gunman opened fire at the Washington, D.C., offices of the conservative Family Research Council in 2012 after seeing it listed as an "anti-gay" group on SPLC's website.

...

The SPLC's Form 8865, a Return of U.S. Persons With Respect to Certain Foreign Partnerships, from 2014 shows that the nonprofit transferred hundreds of thousands to an account located in the Cayman Islands.

SPLC lists Tiger Global Management LLC, a New York-based private equity financial firm, as an agent on its form. The form shows a foreign partnership between the SPLC and Tiger Global Private Investment Partners IX, L.P., a pooled investment fund in the Cayman Islands. SPLC transferred $960,000 in cash on Nov. 24, 2014 to Tiger Global Private Investment Partners IX, L.P, its records show.

The SPLC's Form 926, a Return by a U.S. Transferor of Property to a Foreign Corporation, from 2014 shows additional cash transactions that the nonprofit had sent to offshore funds.

The SPLC reported a $102,007 cash transfer on Dec. 24, 2014 to BPV-III Cayman X Limited, a foreign entity located in the Cayman Islands. The group then sent $157,574 in cash to BPV-III Cayman XI Limited on Dec. 31, 2014, an entity that lists the same PO Box address in Grand Cayman as the previous transfer.

The nonprofit pushed millions more into offshore funds at the beginning of 2015.

On March 1, 2015, SPLC sent $2,200,000 to an entity incorporated in Canana Bay, Cayman Islands, according to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) records and run by a firm firm based in Greenwich, Ct. Another $2,200,000 cash transfer was made on the same day to another fund whose business is located at the same address as the previous fund in the Cayman Islands, according to SEC records.

I'm sure it is nothing. Probably just some bake sales and car wash charity fundraiser money.

Mitt Romney also has a fortune in offshore accts...if we invaded the Caymans, we'd probably be able to pay of the deficit and have money to spare....I think folks would be surprised at who is stashing American profits overseas if they looked into it. MCGA....make the caymans great again! Greed can hide behind a lot of organizations..lock em up if they stole money.

He's not a 501c3 claiming to be all about public service.

Sounds like they are collecting more donations than they can spend, and so investing them. Nothing immoral about that, exactly, although probably at some point they should say 'please donate to these other charities, we've got enough'.

To play Denny's favorite game, whataboutism, it's certainly a lot less hypocritical than Trump talking about 'America First' when his products are made in China.

Edit: didn't realize it at the time, but looks like this was my 20,000th post here. Would have tried to make it more special if I'd known, but at least the post managed to work in some criticism of Denny.

Well that certainly makes it moral, ethical and All American. I feel better already.......talk about splitting hairs....

Romney is a businessman. If you want to do business overseas, you're going to have overseas banking relationships.

What is the 501c3's excuse?

Talk about turning a real difference into "splitting hairs."

How odd.

Another white supremecist rally in Charlottesville. Antifa didn't show up. It wasn't even covered by the news. It was arranged via Facebook, so hardly secret.

Bad people on one side this time.

What does that say about the first?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

40 dudes in a chartered bus, jump out, light torches, yell "You will not replace us" and the "South will rise again" for 5 minutes, police show up. they jump back in their bus and speed away. That's so pathetic it's hilarious.

It was covered by the news. There are tons of articles on Google News.

Sure we'll replace them. McDonald's is automating rapidly.

Not on TV news.

Bad guys on one side this time. Not counting the media.

CNN, CBS, NBC all covered this.

But something something liberal media... antifa... black people suck...

- Denny Crane

"Charlottesville, your city has become symbolic for the oppression of speech. Your city has become symbolic for the tearing down of the symbols of white people."

- Richard Spencer at Charlottesville rally

At least the dipshit is honest and open on what the rally was really about.

Not on TV news.

CNN might mention something like this, so hey can say they reported it. But 1 minute out of 24 hours is a form of omission, and deliberately so.

For a 5 minute chicken shit protest from a bunch of racists?

So you go from "it wasn't covered by the news", which was completely false, to "it wasn't covered on TV", which again was completely false, to they didn't cover it on TV as much as YOU think they should. You have fun pushing that racist rock up that hill.

They are back, campaigning for Youngkin in Virginia. Clayton Bigsby seems to have joined the tiki torch carrying white supremacists.

Wow. Just read through some of this. I think this was a turning point in S2 too. Lines started being drawn and middle ground people being pushed to choose a side.
