My wife just told me about this book. Interesting subject matter....

Looking through the lens of black business history, Beauty Shop Politics shows how black beauticians in the Jim Crow era parlayed their economic independence and access to a public community space into platforms for activism. Tiffany M. Gill argues that the beauty industry played a crucial role in the creation of the modern black female identity and that the seemingly frivolous space of a beauty salon actually has stimulated social, political, and economic change.

Just be cool and people will be cool to you.

Really? Remember when someone posted something telling you my opossum comment was benign? When it's known that them and I don't get along.
Yet you refused and went on for how many pages about how it was a threat?
I remember.

Whatever dude this is not worth the effort.

He's back! Welcome back brother. Not sure if you can see this post or not. Sometimes you can and sometimes you can't. Hope you are well down there in that Covid-Stew you live in. I'm doing great in spite of what you have heard about Portland. Hope you aren't still angry at all of us.

Thanks, it's great to be here. I try not to get sucked into all the hype. :)

H.C.? Angry? You don't say.

Are you saying Scrub Jimmy Dore, you (Zuckerberg) capitalist pieces of shit?

Or are you calling Jimmy Dore a scrub, capitalist piece of shit?

Im not being flippant or dismissive, I was genuinely a little confused

Lol the former.

So your opinion is people must be bribed to be good, caring contributors to society?

I consider most public school and "higher education" teachers in particular to be overpaid, intellectually- lazy, detrimental-to-society, political puppets/activists. Who do you think all these people learned racism from?

Same as you, their family.

You prove with every post that you don't have any black friends.

You ask a lot of stupid questions.

Hey, whatever....but, at any rate, it'll all work itself out. I have faith in that. Hey, one of my close friends wants to let you know that she feels good, despite everything going on.

Attack the post, not the person.

Thanks

Maybe if you call people names and tell them how stupid they are some more it will help them to better understand your side of the argument.

K, you figure it out for us, then. I'll be standing by.

An alternative perspective

Ive not heard that kind of perspective, I do like the individuality and her wanting to not get caught up in being woke.

Me, too. Sadly, though, I doubt many (if any) others in here would give her the time of day. They're marching to an entirely different drummer.

3 different times I have tried to draw you into informed discussions. All 3 times you have shit on them. Just this past week I tried to get you to read through a simple website on the criminal justice reforms that BLM has said they want to see. You absolutely refused. And that is after I watched another video of yours that was not accurate and shit all over BLM.

It's clear that you have an agenda against BLM. You have posted many of these videos that support a narrative that for some reason you feel is important to get out there.

Now you make this weird post about how many won't give her the time of day.

Aren't you guilty of that too?

Why should I watch one more of your videos when you refuse to give the same courtesy to others?

I didn't refuse. I looked it over. But, they can say all day long all the things they want to see. What I'm really seeing is a disjointed operation without any true leadership. Answer me this, who's leading that ship?? I mean, really?

Meanwhile, you'll probably be seeing more and more resistance like what was shared above by that gal.

So you have no comment on anything that the website has to say and instead introduce a new strawman about BLM.

10 areas of discussion and you refuse to discuss any of it because there are BLM chapters in cities that have slightly different agendas that fit the communities they live in?!?

Honestly I think that's BS.

And if there was one central figure who spoke for all wouldn't you also have a problem with that? "It's more like a cult!" "There should be leaders in each city where BLM is at!"

You won't have a discussion about their criminal justice reform ideas because they aren't being run like you think they should be.

Very very odd.

Let's take one of the 10 areas of criminal justice reform on their website.

Police should be working to keep people safe, not contributing to a system that profits from stopping, searching, ticketing, arresting and incarcerating people.
POLICY SOLUTIONS
interview.jpg

End police department quotas for tickets and arrests

Ban police departments from using ticket or arrest quotas to evaluate the performance of police officers

(Ex: Illinois law)

image-asset.png

Limit fines and fees for low-income people

Pass policies requiring local governments to:

  • ban issuing fines or arrest warrants for civilians who fail to appear in court for a traffic citation (Ex: Ferguson Policy)
  • ban generating more than 10% of total municipal revenue from fines and fees (Ex: Missouri law)
  • allow judges discretion to waive fines and fees for low-income people or initiate payment plans (Ex: Pennsylvania law)
  • prohibit courts from ordering individuals on parole or probation to pay supervision fees and other correctional fees
image-asset.png

Prevent police from taking the money or property of innocent people

Prohibit police from:

  • seizing property of civilians (i.e. civil forfeiture) unless they are convicted of a crime and the state establishes by clear and convincing evidence that the property is subject to forfeiture
  • keeping any property that has legally been forfeited (instead, this property should go to a general fund)
  • participating in the federal Equitable Sharing program that allows police to engage in civil asset forfeiture
(Ex: New Mexico law)

image-asset.png

Require police departments to bear the cost of misconduct

  • Require the cost of misconduct settlements to be paid out of the police department budget instead of the City's general fund
  • Restrict police departments from receiving more money from the general fund when they go over-budget on lawsuit payments
-------------------------------------------------

If you would have taken the time to read some of that site you would see that isn't about "what they want to see" but instead individual BLM groups are working in their states to make some of this happen. That's what the "Ex: <<State link>>" is about.

And if there was one central figure who spoke for all wouldn't you also have a problem with that?

I asked who the leadership was and are they central to the entire organization. This is an organization, right? Or, is it a movement? Who was it that said, "There they go, and I am their leader."

I'm concerned that BLM might just run a muck....without anyone to reel them back in.

We'll see. The jury's still out for me.

Im all for police reform and getting rid of the bad apples for sure, but if we need more police in areas where there is higher crime than i'm not opposed to more police to protect the innocent. There are multitudes of innocent people being hurt badly, killed or robbed without any opposition, that cant happen or it will spread.

Look at how comfortable these thugs were in gang attacking a store owner & his daughter. Im mean this shit has to be met with strength and resolve.

What the fuck does that even mean?

We'll see about what?

The legislative action in Illinois? Pennsylvania? Missouri? New Mexico?

49 COPS INJURED IN CHICAGO PROTESTING.

Where does BLM hand off the baton to the injurious groups? Look, I've taken a back seat approach to much of what BLM is really about. Now, I'm seeing and hearing from Blacks (no, not just the young woman above), and am like, hmmmmm, what does BLM really stand for? Is it about what you see on the their website, etc.? Or, are there other agendas at play? Again, there are emerging other sides to the story.

I try and watch them all and draw my own conclusions that I know are just my thoughts but I try and be a good listener and slower to speak, that I may learn new perspectives on issues.
