Damon wasn't hated that much. Most of us realized his limitations, and it's not like he was an asshole. He was a low-usage PG who a part of some very good Blazer teams.

Everybody hated Damon.

Honestly, the player I liked the least was probably Rasheed Wallace. First of all, his disposition was unlikeable. Just by looking at him brought out negative feelings. As many of you have alluded to in here, he is probably the best Blazer talent wise to play the 4 position yet is probably the biggest underachiever ever to wear a Blazer uni. He never wanted the leadership role or the label of being the go to guy. He never wanted to work on his game. He played with a chip on his shoulder but that chip wasn't for the good of his own game or the teams. It was a chip that usually hurt himself and the team as it was directed toward the refs. I have no proof to this, but I believe deep down he is a racist. He doesn't like white people. And if you watched where most of his ire was directed to, it was to the white refs. I don't feel he liked Dunleavy and in the end was responsible for his dismissal which brought in Maurice Cheeks. I didn't like how he handled the Sabonis situation when throwing the towel at him. And I hated listening to his post game interviews. He wasn't a professional by any means.

As years have gone on, my ire and dislike for him has dwindled. But by far, I find him the most unlikeable Blazer of all time and my least favorite. And needless to say, I celebrated when they traded him.

Damon Stoudamire. He had it all:
Shitty player: Shoot first PG on a loaded offensive team, bad post entry passer, terrible defender, terrible size, terrible finisher, lost most of his speed around 2002....pretty much bad at everything except no-risk passes and perimeter shooting.
Shitty contracts: We paid him over $80m over his career here, and it forever hamstrung us from trading him for something useful.
Shitty attitude: Seemed to have this weird special relationship with Quick that he used to constantly whine about how unappreciated he was.
Shitty drama: I don't really care about off-court stuff, but the whole thing about the crawl space, the airport security and the yellow hummer were just a trifecta of pothead stupidity that contributed to all the bad PR that cast a marketing pall over the franchise in the early 2000's.
Shitty timing: Why did he have to come along during that glorious window between 1998 and 2002? So many talented, awesome guys in that era. Pippen. Sabas. Sheed. Smitty. Brian Grant. Young Bonzi. If you could swap him out with even just a competent no-drama PG (I'm thinking a young Derek Fisher or Steve Blake) it might have been all the difference in winning it all.
It just...never....ended. We had that asshole for 7 long years. I hated him every one of them.

I will always hate Damon Stoudamire. There have been more obnoxious guys. Rider was a douche. There were more vastly overpaid guys like Kemp. There were guys who really let me down like Miles. Stoudamire just had this overall package of shittiness, though, that I hope we never see again.

I have no ill feelings towards Damon. We blew him up to some kind of messiah. That wasn't his fault. I believe deep down he got the most out of his resources. I have no probs with players that go out, work on their game and try to be the best they can be.

Rashweed Wallace, hands down. Nobody ever shamed the Portland franchise like he did. I still hate everything he stood for.

I may have misunderstood the thread. I thought it was most hated or least respected by the overall fan base, rather than our individual opinions. It works either way though. Just wanted to be clear I thought Felton was the most universally disliked and dis-respected, by the fan base. That's only my perception of course. Myself, $amon was probably my least favorite. Until Crawchuck showed up.

He was rookie of the year and considered one of the greatest pgs in the game when he was in Toronto. He was already blown up.

Fuck Damon. He killed chemistry IN THE PLAYOFFS when he started bitching to Jason Quick about Greg Anthony finishing the end of games since he wouldn't fuck shit up. Wasn't his fault my ass. He was a passive agressive bitch, throwing teammates under the bus and what not.

I think due to being the hometown kid and carrying some amount of pressure of living up to the hype of the fans and the contract he had signed. He felt he needed to be a bigger part of the team and needed to place his stamp. Whether he had that kind of resource or not (I don't believe he ever did). And when he wasn't given what he felt he needed to live up to that hype, he acted out. Not saying it's right. But I think his lash outs were derived by reasons in wanting to help the team. I cant say Rasheed.s intentions were out to help the team.

Yes sir! It was obvious Greg was outplaying him too all season, Damon should have been the damn backup on that team from the get go. Good chance we have a title if that happens and then Brian Grant/Jermaine might have different feelings about requesting trades in the offseason. Who knows what would've happened with that group.

Felton and the other hated Blazers might be extremely annoying but in the grand scheme they didn't have terribly much negative impact on the franchise. They are more like a stupid wasted draft pick. Pisses you off when they are on the court but it ends after a year or two. The disaster of Damon severely hurt this team for year after year like an uncured midget STD dragging on for almost a decade.

Just thinking of Damon pounding the ball at the 3 point line wasting half the shot clock pisses me off even today. I had forgotten how annoying that was to watch. This is bringing back so many negative memories I might need to quit reading this thread.

Anthony was basically Steve Blake, in that he had an average PER, but did it on low usage. I agree he outplayed Damon, especially during the 99-00 season. Damon's contract became an issue to some degree in terms of playing time, but the CBA at the time was easy to circumvent.

The least respected was probably Mo Cheeks, who was called a ****** by his own players.

Least liked was probably Jamaal Crawford

Darius Miles, Raymond Felton, Rasheed Wallace, Damon Stoudemire, Darius Miles, Nick Van Exel, Raymond Felton, Bonzi Wells, Quintel Woods, Darius Miles, Raymond Felton, Derek Anderson, Raymond Felton, and Darius Miles.

Oh, and did I mention Darius Miles and Raymond Felton?

I'll add Pippen to this list. His second year here he was a total cancer and mailed it in during the playoffs.

Thanks for the clarification, Stomp. I do recall Troy Murphy having some involvement? Or was that a different incident? Crap, who can remember all this shit?
I never hated on Sheed or Damon.

Rider, from my one meeting with him, had no discernible redeeming qualities as a human being.

My take is somewhat different...
The guys I least respect are the ones that pissed on the organization after they left - there have been several.

Conversely, I really like players who retire in Portland.

I'm not really eligible for this poll, because I'm not a Portland fan, but I've always been a fan of Gawen's. I liked him as a Grizzly, and if nothing else, he apparently vandalized Fratello's car, writing "pussy" all over it... so that's good for some points in my book... fuck Mike Fratello.

Why is Fratello hated?

Damon only wanted to help Damon

He's an arrogant little mediocre fuck.

^ That.

We had some good records with him (.606 and .598), but that was a lot of coasting off the Hubie Brown ten man rotation that we'd set up.

Really, I'm not even that critical of him as a coach though... I honestly get more annoyed with him as an announcer. He's just got an annoying personality. I think MickZagger summed it up pretty well... the guy's just unlikeable. He's a little, cocky, toupee wearing shit with a Napoleonic complex from being four feet tall and talentless, and I can't imagine being a talented, hard working pro athlete getting yelled at by a guy like him... I'd be looking for the nearest locker to throw him in.

I can hardly praise a person for writing sexist crap on a coach's car!
I'm hardly an expert but Rider always struck me as a sociopath. He could be superficially charming, smart, engaging, and then turn into a tarantula.
Joe Wolf? come on, a mediocre player who never pretended to be anything but.

I met a guy who was on the basketball team with Damon at his first high school and he said everyone on the team hated him and was really happy when he transferred. I really REALLY wish we'd just kept Alvin Williams (and never signed Kenny Anderson).

What ever happened with Alvin Williams anyway. Seemed like he had some good years with the Raptors and then just vanished.

Just googled Kenny Anderson to see what he was up to and found out two days ago he said he was molested as a kid.

I have a lot more respect now for Kenny than I did before that search. A #2 pick in the draft, he was not a bust but not really great either. But as a guy willing to share what he went through, major props.
