Who will be out there in free agency for backup PF/C?

Part of the problem with Biedrins is that he played Nellie ball. A system notorious for not utilizing its centers. He's only 25, has size and was once an elite rebounder. I'd take a flier on him.

I still don't think so:

.

Define "good", then. Are you saying the back-up PF has to be a "good" starter for another team?

Seems to me that a back-up PF should get the MLE, at best. With Camby/Oden/LMA/Wallace, you're looking at 15-20 mpg at best, hopefully. Unless your idea is to pay starter money for a "good" back-up PF?

Joel Przbyilla signed with Portland when he was 25 and rapidly developed under McMillan's style. When in Atlanta he looked like he was destined to play in Europe.

Joel was a defensive stalwart that packed the paint and brought toughness. I dont think it had much to do with Nate's style. More to do with opportunity.

Actually, according to Joel, it was more about conditioning and having the flame of competition relit within him.

And last I checked - being serious here, I haven't seen Bedrins play in a long time - isn't he sort of a defensive big man? Blocks shots? Rebounds? That sorta stuff?

he was a 19 per guy, who just stopped doing everything, its got to be mental

Didnt Biedrins get his big fat contract playing for Nellie?

Hayes would be awesome. Top 5 post defender in the league and he's only 6'6".

The young Charles Oakley! They've got young prospects at the 4/5 that's about three deep.

Scola/Patterson/Hill/Thabeet/Motiejunas/Morris

man, thabeet is so crap, just goes to show how clueless scouts can be

wonder if okc would have drafted him at 3 if he was there instead of harden

I knew Thabeet was garbage at UCONN. He's long and thats basically it.

Serious question -- Who's more talented, Thabeet or Boumtje-Boumtje?

guy went for 13/10/4.2 blocks!

the next mutombo! lol

Being a legit 7'2" and going up against 6'8" posts in college can make a player look pretty righteous.

Latest forecast from someone in the know on whether Nene and Nuggets agree to extension before Thursday's OTHER deadline: "Not likely"

...

This thread is all about finding a center/power forward. Getting rid of Juwan Howard was probably the biggest error in the last 5 years of Blazer history.

When is the earliest we can bring over Freeland?

Comment From Eric B
Is there any truth to the Biedrens for Marcus Camby rumor?

I said this on TV the other day and believe it. Not only does Houston have some (a little) interest in Biedrins, but Portland does also. Keep in mind Portland has had devastation on their front line over the years -- Oden Przybilla, Pendergraph, all of those guys got hurt. They are thinking depth up there.

We have one of the highest payrolls in the league next year and have Batum, Felton, Wallace all due for new contracts next season as well as Oden getting a deal himself. I'd be intrigued by trading Camby for Biedrens; but if we are only getting a backup will Paul Allen be willing to pay that much money? We would likely end up at the $100 million payroll level Paul regretted in the 2000 era.

The only reason we have the Camby chip is that Allen overpaid him. Many teams wanted him, but not at $9M per. Allen's cash enables these trades.
