Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Record Surplus for Fiscal Year 2021-22

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the surplus for Fiscal Year 2021-22 is $21.8 billion – the highest in state history and more than 21 percent above the state budget for the fiscal year. Collections in May were $742 million above estimates, and preliminary data for June collections are approximately $950 million above estimates.

“Despite the headwinds created by the Biden administration’s policies, Florida is in a strong fiscal position because we preserved freedom and kept our economy open,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Our responsible policies have allowed us to make record investments to support our communities, promote education, protect the environment, and provide record tax relief for Floridians, all while building record reserves to protect the state against the reckless fiscal policies from Washington.”

Florida’s record surplus includes:
  • $2.7 billion in Florida’s Rainy-Day Fund (Budget Stabilization Fund) – the highest in state history.
  • $15.7 billion in unallocated General Revenue.
  • $2.8 billion in unallocated trust funds.
  • $499 million in the newly created Emergency Preparedness and Response Fund.
Florida continues to outpace the nation as Florida’s businesses continue to have robust employment opportunities.
  • Unemployment rate has remained steady at 3.0 percent, and 0.6 percent point lower than the national rate. Florida’s statewide unemployment rate has been lower than the national rate for 18 consecutive months since December 2020.
  • Florida’s statewide unemployment rate has declined or held steady for 22 consecutive months.
  • Between May 2021 and May 2022, Florida’s labor force grew by 313,000, or 3.0 percent, faster than the national labor force growth rate of 2.2 percent over the year.
  • Between May 2021 and May 2022, Florida’s total private sector employment grew by 459,500 jobs (5.9%), faster than the national private sector job growth rate of 5.1 percent over the year.
  • As of May 2022, Florida employers have added jobs for 25 consecutive months since May 2020. Florida’s private sector over-the-year job growth rate has exceeded the nation’s for 14 consecutive months since April 2021.

Republicans no longer need Trump the individual, the whole party has become Trump. He didn't invent it. Just carried to the nth degree what began with Reagan and Bush I, expanded under Bush II, Gingrich, McConnell and a slew of right wing talking heads.
Laws don't matter.
Norms don't matter.
Constitution doesn't matter.
Basic human decency not only doesn't matter, it's a liability. Treating people with respect is political correctness or wokism and must be avoided.
Facts don't matter. What dear leader says is true.
What matters is winners and losers. That "we" win but even more important that "they" lose.
Trump had two legislative accomplishments. A giant tax cut for the rich and allowing those with significant mental illness adjudged danger to themselves or others to buy guns.
Mexico did not pay for the wall. Hillary Clinton is not locked up. The Affordable Care Act was not replaced with "something wonderful". Coal jobs did not return.
But when Trump as his first act reinstated and expanded Global Gag Rule, which impacts primary women of color, surrounded by white men, he was signalling to his cult white men are in charge again. He didn't need to keep campaign promises. Just own the libs and make it ok to openly hate "them".
Biden is hurting in polls because he hasn't done what he set out to do. Republicans don't have to. Just keep queers and scary dark people away.

Which is exactly what his supporters want. Their views are unpopular. Without voter suppression, extreme gerrymandering, electoral college, filibuster, stolen Supreme Court seats they could never implement outlawing abortion and birth control, no restrictions on guns, book banning, don't teach anything that makes white people uncomfortable, more pollution, and more tax cuts for the rich.

Elon Musk said late Monday that former President Trump should “hang up his hat & sail into the sunset” after Trump called the Tesla CEO “another bullshit artist.”

“I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset,” Musk wrote on Twitter in response to a clip of Trump’s remarks at a weekend rally. “Dems should also call off the attack — don’t make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency.”

another tweet, Musk pointed out that “Trump would be 82 at end of term,” adding that he believes that “is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America.”

Musk then said that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) would “easily win” if he runs against President Biden in 2024.

“He doesn’t even need to campaign” Musk added.

Last month, the multibillionaire predicted a “massive red wave in 2022″ and said that he was considering creating a “Super Moderate Super PAC” to support centrist candidates.

Musk also recently tweeted that he voted for Republican Mayra Flores in the race for a U.S. House seat in Texas and that it was the first time he’s voted for a Republican.

Trump disputed Musk’s claim on Saturday, saying the tech billionaire told him that he had voted for him in a presidential election.

“He said the other day, ‘Oh, I’ve never voted for a Republican,’” Trump said.

“I said, ‘I didn’t know that,’” Trump continued. “He told me he voted for me, so he’s another bullshit artist.”

Where is that streaming? Might be interested myself. Learning about history, patterns, and historical repercussions is the only way to prevent it from happening again. Apparently Elon didn't understand that memo.

University of Central Florida removed from their website long standing statements that they are opposed to racism, in order to comply with new law prohibiting talking about racism if it could make white people uncomfortable. The previous statements had been crafted by a group of academics in philosophy, religion, cultural studies and humanities.

Anyone know what the “woke” textbooks were doing that lead to this little political diatribe?

Edit: Never mind. I found it. Apparently “woke” math textbooks include graphs that accurately describe real world political data.
They don’t have anything to do with inaccurate math calculations.
