Lakers have really blown it with high lottery picks.
Since 2015 they've had 3 second picks in the draft, and 1 fourth pick in the draft.
None are on the team now!

They have a title to show for it though so I’d take that

Wait...

Jerry West didn't want to draft Magic and quit as Laker's coach because he didn't want to coach him?!?

This true?

I read a lot of this show isn’t accurate much. Like for example Jerry West never drank alcohol and in the show they have him drink a lot. Some famous super agent who works for the pistons now wrote a piece on how the show isnt true much. But it is good so far I watched the first two episodes!

here’s the piece he wrote

Never forget the architect of "Showtime" as a scheme was none other that Jack McKinney, who left the Blazers under Jack Ramsay to coach the L*kers.

And I absolutely love this series. The casting is amazing, not just Reilly and Clarke. Danny Noonan perfectly captures Jack Kent Cooke, who Tony Kornheiser dubbed "The Squire"

You see tonight's episode? Loved Tark! Great casting!

The last one didn't come through the draft though. Thats my point. Unless you are fortunate to have a couple super stars on the team it a tough prize to attain. And they never drafted James and Davis.

Right but they used those draft assets you listed to acquire the piece(s) to get that title

For those who have yet to watch, Episode 4 is titled "Who The F*** Is Jack McKinney?". Watch and learn a bit of Blazer history.

Also John C. Reilly eats lobster wearing a bib and a swimsuit. Hilarious.

I genuinely didn't know about Jack McKinney! So the Lakers stole showtime from the Blazers!

Also didn't know that Paul Westhead taught English in college. Live and learn.

Just watched it and that was fucking awesome!

Such a great show!

That was a tough episode to watch, you knew how it was going to end.

Still a fun show!

I think the only thing I haven't liked about it was how they referred to the Blazers team that won a title as a "bunch of nobodies". Back then, most NBA teams had 1 star and several role players. Also I think they had McKinneys wife (? maybe it was a different character..maybe it was Gabby Hoffmans character) say something about how at least now they're going to a star team (the Lakers), when the year before the Lakers won a whole 2 games more than the Blazers did.

Fun fact about the 79-80 season. The Lakers lost 1 season series that entire year.

The team they lost the season series against?

The Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers won the series 4-2.

Against the rest of the league the Blazers were 34-42. Against the rest of the league the Lakers were 58-18.

I think they got confused and thought it was a story about baseball.

LOLZ.

I'm enjoying the hell out of the show. It's pretty clear that there are some things that are made up or highly exaggerated.

Do I believe that Jerry West was a raging asshole? Don't care.

Would I be upset if the Blazers hired Jerry West to help Cronin or whoever our next GM is? No. I would welcome him.

That HBO series is not doing any damage to West. There are a ton of teams that would love to hire him.
