Hollinger on Yang: "his ability to guard anywhere in space is a major deficiency. He is neither quick nor instinctive, and his lack of athleticism at the most important defensive position offers him no place to hide"
Not a rim protector. No perimeter game. Not athletic. 20 years old. Expected to be a second round pick.
He checks all the boxes.

yeah, the likelihood of this being a business move is higher than it being a basketball oneNew owners must be from China
Other teams, like Oklahoma City, rebuild and get better. The Blazers just cruise along in mediocrity year after year, thanks to GMs like Cronin who have no idea what they’re doing.I'm really hoping my Blazers fandom can outlast Cronin. With the extension I have serious doubts. I live within walking distance to Climate Pledge Arena, and while I couldn't ever see myself as a Sonics fan... this bullshit the last couple of years is testing me.
Don't forgot to add that he shot under 70% at the free throw line.
Did Joe forget there is a second round? Could have gotten him there.
And there was still so many good players available.I give up. There is no justification for this pick. None. Zero.
Asa Newell, Fleming? A random 20 year old guy at the YMCA over 6'5"?And there was still so many good players available.
That's a good comp... He's a slower less athletic Hartenstein, but with much worse defense, and no finishing ability inside. Also weaker, and a worse FT shooter. Can't shoot outside. Not a good selection imo. You could've acquired him later.
In fact, that Pelicans deal where you get the #23 and an unprotected 2026 pick would've sufficed here.
Otherwise, my assessment is Hansen's wingspan is slightly too short for my liking and his shoulders/hips are too small. His success in the NBA will be contingent on him being able to shoot very well and make an occasional pass. I wouldn't expect a strong defender.
Then, expecting the next Jokic is foolhardy here.
I think it's possible you get a Hartenstein (offense only) with playmaking potential but that's the max here. Bench big, pretty much.

Major blunder, especially w/ Essengue, Jaku, & Fleming available
You know what's got a worse history? Anywhere in the 2nd round, which is where this dude belongedI'm not going to overreact. We have a pretty damn good talent evaluator- we gained another first round pick and two seconds.
History of the 16th pick isn't earth shattering by any stretch. He's got as good as chance as most

Just think of it like we traded our 1st for a future 1st and THREE 2nd rounders...The player is not the problem. Chinese Jokic. The spot is. We could have traded down 2 -3 more times and got him
