Hollinger on Yang: "his ability to guard anywhere in space is a major deficiency. He is neither quick nor instinctive, and his lack of athleticism at the most important defensive position offers him no place to hide"

Man that must be one horrible league if he was CBA Defensive Player of the year.

I'm really hoping my Blazers fandom can outlast Cronin. With the extension I have serious doubts. I live within walking distance to Climate Pledge Arena, and while I couldn't ever see myself as a Sonics fan... this bullshit the last couple of years is testing me.
Other teams, like Oklahoma City, rebuild and get better. The Blazers just cruise along in mediocrity year after year, thanks to GMs like Cronin who have no idea what they’re doing.

In a weak draft we reached even deeper so I am guessing he is the equivalent of an UDFA in most years

Not a good selection imo. You could've acquired him later.

In fact, that Pelicans deal where you get the #23 and an unprotected 2026 pick would've sufficed here.

Otherwise, my assessment is Hansen's wingspan is slightly too short for my liking and his shoulders/hips are too small. His success in the NBA will be contingent on him being able to shoot very well and make an occasional pass. I wouldn't expect a strong defender.

Then, expecting the next Jokic is foolhardy here.

I think it's possible you get a Hartenstein (offense only) with playmaking potential but that's the max here. Bench big, pretty much.

Major blunder, especially w/ Essengue, Jaku, & Fleming available

I am done with the draft and going to stop thinking about the Blazers tonight, but I gotta say: this is the kind of pick that, in any league made by any team, I would laugh at. I don't care if my team is unorthodox and even if they're laughed at... as long as they have success and/or are building for the future. I have seen Detroit and Houston and lots of other shitty teams do that the last few years (lose but build). Heck, I even see Washington clearing out salary and accumulating picks.

This has been a bad, bad couple of days for the franchise and my Blazers fandom.

I had low, low, low expectations. Yet somehow, some way, Cronin and Jody Allen absolutely blew them away. So much so I had to change my Avatar. Just wow.

This is comically bad, COMICALLY BAD! He was 34 on idiotic draft boards. This isn't a reach, its like flying the Starship Enterprise to the limit of the galaxy for conveyor belt sushi, levels of reach.

That's a good comp... He's a slower less athletic Hartenstein, but with much worse defense, and no finishing ability inside. Also weaker, and a worse FT shooter. Can't shoot outside.

We literally haven't drafted anything but lumbering centers since Dame was on the roster. That's not how you rebuild.

First the Holiday trade, then this horrible pick. I can’t wait to see what Cronin does next.

great point. Pelicans were willing to give up the best of their own pick and the bucks pick next year, a great pick, and we chose instead a pick from a stacked magic team in a couple years.

I'm not going to overreact. We have a pretty damn good talent evaluator- we gained another first round pick and two seconds.

History of the 16th pick isn't earth shattering by any stretch. He's got as good as chance as most

You know what's got a worse history? Anywhere in the 2nd round, which is where this dude belonged
