Yes Yao Ming follows the same, family name first.

Since that article is from official NBA.com and it follow Yao established style I'm guessing we'll start seeing his name listed as Yang Hansen

It’s funny I was just talking with my uncle and without going into a long explanation, he’s a fan of Japan and has visited a couple of times I think. I had mentioned Japanese game shows and he said something about how in Japan people are generally addressed by their last name, and that only close friends or family would refer to somebody by their first name.

Yeah so I think like what happened with Ming Yao, we'll probably see him eventually called Hansen Yang or maybe we're more progressive now so we'll just call him Yang Hansen like he's used to.

Can you find one Chinese player that has ever had his family name listed second?

I only recall Yao Ming name listed that way. I never heard or read it as Ming Yao. Yao was his family name. Yao was the only name on his jersey.

Yang Hansen is how it's listed on Casey NBA.com article yesterday.

My bad. I mistakenly thought Ming was Yao's family name. So it will be Yang on the jersey and he'll be called Yang Hansen.

Thanks for straitening that out for me.

This isn't difficult. In China, the family name ALWAYS comes first. It's Yang Han Sen. His jersey will say Yang. If you address him by his given name, you would say Han Sen (or Hansen?). But writing or saying his full name it's always Yong Han Sen (or Hansen maybe?). No one would ever say Chairman Zedong Mao. It's Chairman Mao Zedong. Writers who put his given name ahead of his family name are simply wrong. Ignore them.

Korea also puts family name first. Kim Jong Un. Kim is family name.
