With the #7 pick, the Portland Trail Blazers select....

Ha Ha Ha! If there was any chance at all of him slipping to 7th the Blazers would be absolutely crazy to pass on that opportunity?
WTF? No chance it happens but how could they not take Chet at 7?

I'm a Chet "hater" and I take him at 7 easy. I mean there are other guys I'd rather have, but not many and I think you have to take him due to the upside. You can also trade him as a prospect, but probably you just keep him and see.

Yeah if he goes full unicorn after passing him up at 7 this board would blow up.

I had a mega meltdown on Blazersedge when we took CJ rather than my preferred pick...some scrub named Giannis.
Rightfully so. The CJ pick was bad from the start. I supported him sure but many of us knew from the beginning that was not who they needed next to Lillard.

Hayward with an asset seems like a potential great use of Blazers financial flexibility. If his health is better he is a great starter, either to win with Dame or flip for another asset as OKC did with CP3. If Hayward sucks it's only one extra year, and you are still happy with whatever asset Charlotte gives up.
Yup. Hayward is also a $30m expiring in 2023-2024 for any teams wanting cap space for that summer. There looks to be a lot of big names that summer.

I honestly might start Little with Grant, and have have Hayward be a sixth man who can play up to 33mpg a night, with the other forward being a guy like Daniels or Sochan. You need Little and Grant to offset Dame and Ant defensively. Not sure who we draft with that pick, but we desperately need a big who can dominate defensively soon. I lean more and more towards drafting Duren if we get the CHO pick.

Dame/Ant/Nas/Grant/____
Ant/Hart/Hayward/(Daniels/Sochan)/Duren
Keon/Keon/____/Watford/Brown III
That’s not including Covington TPE, MLE

I would be really excited to see what we can do defensively, especially if we find a way to bring Thybulle on board too.

If we can take Sharpe, I think the movie is take Sharpe and then sign-and-trade Ant once free agency starts.

Dame
Hart
??
Grant
Nurk

Groom Sharpe as the SGoTF.

That might be the move, but it almost certainly won't happen. I'm open to trading Ant, but I'd be shocked if he gets traded this year.

i don't see why we need to move Ant. We can easily give Sharpe 20-25 mpg off the bench early on. Hell, even that might be too much for him. Kuminga averaged only 19 mpg his rookie year and was a spot starter.

Because we need comparable talent at small forward and I think Ant is the only resource that we have to make the move realistically, while still having Sharpe to develop off the bench. That's my way of thinking anyway.

Thybulle couldn’t hit the water if he fell out of a boat in middle of the ocean

you’ve got to make a bet on who is more likely to become a decent shooter… Dyson or Sochan.

Thybulle ain’t it

Would love to find a way to get Sochan later in the lottery but not at the cost of a prospect like Sharpe. Perhaps Portland can take a contract to get a pick to get Sochan as well.

Comparing apples to apples:

Sochan shot 0.296% from 3 & a FT% of 0.589 in college
Thybulle's lowest season in college he shot 0.305 (averaged 0.358) from 3 & had a FT% of 0.714

Sochan ain't it either...

Looks like Dyson wasn't any better in his G-League season. (0.255% & 0.737% respectively)

“You’ve got to make a bet”

Because you know what Thybulle is already.

You’ve got to bet on Daniels / Sochan becoming more than that. And if they don’t, they’re both already better playmakers, dribblers and shot creators while being similarly as good defensively.

Daniels is a very good passer. He could play point guard for the 2nd unit.

You don't have to make that bet... It's a low probability outcome.

Dyson is Evan Turner (v2). A high end version of Sochan is a Jae Crowder...

I'd much rather pick up Thybulle who is already a 2x 2nd team all defense and trade down a bit and take a swing with either Eason or Dieng.

I’ve suggested taking on Hayward’s remaining two years and getting #13, then trading up from there to get Sochan and then drafting whoever is BPA at #7. Mixed reviews, if not any good ones at all, lol.

Or Dyson is Scottie Pippen 2.0. We don’t know what he will become.

Dyson plays nothing like Evan Turner and the stats show it. Evan Turner was a high usage, inefficient off ball player. That’s nothing like Dyson.

But that doesn’t matter. The point is that no matter what “low probability outcome”, you’ve got to take a swing and make a bet if you want to make it to contender status.

Throw Sharpe in there as well. He isn’t “likely” to become a star but *if* he does that’s how we can become a contender. And becoming a star outside the top 3 picks is a low probability outcome no matter how you slice it. But the probability with Daniels, Sochan and Sharpe is much higher. That’s why they’re projected much higher in the draft. Eason doesn’t have the BBIQ, ball handling or playmaking ability to become a star. And his shot *arguably* translates worse than Sochan - who was a superior catch and shoot “shooter” from 3 than Eason. And Eason from one side of the court was like 20% from 3 because of his weird ass shot.

Neither Eason or Dieng are likely to be available at 23. Mocks have Dieng from 9-13 for the most part and Eason around 15-17.

Id be all for getting him if he was reasonable. Defense has to be a priority for this team.
Without the MIL, not sure what they’d want in return. You could trade Keon for draft compensation and trade that with 2nds for Thybulle with the Covington TPE if they’ll take that. But I don’t think I’d trade much more than that.
