So, the "Vulcans" are an evil force that sometimes fires GMs, and sometimes retains them, but always for evil purposes.

Is that the idea?

False. Mitch Kupchak, Pat Riley, Stan Van Gundy, and Doc Rivers all had this happen in the last 3 years. None of them were fired.

In fact I can't think of one GM who lost a franchise player under the current CBA and was fired.

Mitch Kupchak didn't draft Pau Gasol. Memphis traded their 27 y/o for two first rounders and Marc Gasol.

Pat Riley didn't draft LeBron James. Cleveland received a $16m TPE and five picks.

Mitch Kupchak didn't draft Dwight Howard. Orlando received Vucevic/Various prospects that landed them Tobias Harris immediately following this deal and three first round picks, along with a sizable TPE.

DeAndre Jordan is similar but he was the third wheel in LA behind Blake and CP3. Had it been one of those two it would be a totally different situation - identical to Portland.

These teams were forced to trade their franchise players that they drafted, but they ALL didn't let them go for nothing. They were smart and landed pieces for the future.

If San Antonio loses LMA in three years for nothing I'd agree with you.

Difference with those guys is they told their teams to trade them. Lma lied to us.. Remember the I want to retire the best blazer, smarter to wait this summer, blah blah blah

It's not Olshey fault that LMA is a punk ass liar

He did in June of 2013.

On top of that:

Canceling his PDX endorsements, selling his Lake O house and renting Damon's West Linn house were too subtle of hints.
