This is a tough blow. I Guess we kind of saw it coming but didn't really want to admit it. I hope he gets better and we can use him along with the resigned Plumlee next year. I kind of feel like he really believes in Dame and CJ. We could use a break on a healing from knee surgery center.

Blazers center Festus Ezeli statement to @espn @theundefeated: "Everyone has moments of setback. It's unfortunate and disappointing that I am facing one of those right now. My aim is to fundamentally address issues that have lingered so that I can be the best that I can be, to help my team contend for and win the title. To all concerned I assure this, my love for the game nothing but ensures that I will be back better and stronger than ever and you can take that to the bank."

And MY music is such a large devotion to my life I force my wife to give up a third of our house for it.
Sometimes our passion and drives is simply eclipsed by circumstances.
With all that I have and continue to try to do, I have no false hope so f making it to the big stage, even though I dream of it on a daily basis.

I wish him the best of luck, but his love of the game is not the end all to recovery.

Truth be told, if it wasn't for 2k I'd have probably forgotten by now that he is at Portland.

So guesses as to what happens now? Do we waive him? Trade? DPE?

I wonder if we still pick em up for next year

Could we not see this problem from the physical we gave him? Why just dump $7 million? Were we duped somehow? I refuse to believe we were willing to pay $7 million and hope for a miracle that he could play, and I refuse to believe our medical staff is so inept they couldn't see the knee damage. I'm so confused.
Why not donate that 7 mil to some kind of good cause?

Is there any sports franchise that is worse at evaluating the health of draft picks and free agents?

Up until Neil Olshey got to the Clippers, I'd say the Clippers.

Trail Blazers center Festus Ezeli is expected to undergo surgery next week on his left knee, it was announced today by Neil Olshey, president of basketball operations.

While the exact surgery date is pending, it will be performed by Dr. Robert LaPrade at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

Ezeli will be out for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.

No way in hell do they pick up his option for next year. That would be luxury tax money.

Could you imagine being an NBA player and getting paid to have multiple free knee surgeries by some of the best doctors in the country.

Not saying Festus wouldn't rather be out there on the court...

Shocking news!

Seriously, it doesn't say what kind of knee surgery. So, I guess it could be anything from draining fluid to an amputation. It does make you wonder why he put it off so long, what the recovery time will be, if there will be a recovery. He was supposedly considering the surgery back in mid-December. Does he plan to try to play in 2017-18? Will he be ready by the start of the season - impossible to say since we have no idea what kind of surgery he is having.

They just tried to move his contract so I don't think they wanted to talk about his knee much

The whole point of moving his contract was as a nearly (only $1 million guaranteed) expiring contract. They were not trying to pass him off as damaged goods. They knew he wouldn't pass a physical. Anyone trading for him for him would have waived him before June 30. We were trying to move him to a team under the salary floor to get another $1 million closer to being under the luxury tax threshold for the 2017-18 season.

This guy's done. He needs to take that surgery and retire. I personally don't think he'll ever play another minute on the court again.

Wish him the best. Maybe he can take some cooking classes?

He's a bright guy...biology major in college...he'll land on his feet....not his knees

$$$ dropped in the bucket. A reward for Neil>>>>>IMG_1867 utility truck .JPG
