He has a small tear of the ucl which doesn't heal so you either have surgery or you live with it.

Pasta, the Yanks went by the advice of three different doctors who said surgery wasn't required. Yeah, it sure looks like he has an issue with the arm but what can you do.....?....if the docs said "rest" would suffice, I don't think any pitcher would volunteer for arm surgery if it wasn't necessary - Tough situation.

sure sounds like it, kudos to him for takin risk... but then again, better then a dagger in the gut.

They would've done it already if surgery was going to be the answer. Like BLG said three doctors said no surgery so that's the route they went. I had also read something a while back regarding how in Japan they're against things like that as well unless absolutely necessary. If you watch his velocity seems fine but he seems to go through spells where command is the issue. It looks like he can still be a good pitcher but I don't know if he's going to revert back to being that 2.00ERA type guy he was when he first came over.

See now. Tanaka warms up after that first and then has a dominate second inning.

These Braves pitchers are terrible. This guy can't find the plate.

Continuing with the extra day rest, I still believe it's reasonable to expect him to pitch well in a "big game".
He may or may not be dominant, but he knows how to pitch and is still a cool customer.

They can still do it now with Mitchell coming off that seven day DL and getting back in the mix.

I don't want to bring up old issues but wasn't there strong allegations about somebody owing someone a bag of Chee-tos. Was that ever resolved?
