And in this case, I'm saying that there are issues, other than guns, that are higher up the list that need to be addressed.
I agree that there are other issues that also need to be addressed, but it's not mutually exclusive. It's reasonable to pursue action on a number of fronts: domestic terrorism, mental care, police accountability, the tone of the dialog--and fairly straight-foward gun measures, like restrictions on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines as well as background checks (measures that are, incidentally, broadly popular among the US population).
If we could only do one thing at a time, we could debate whether gun control should be that one thing. But we don't have to do just one thing at a time and we've never, as a nation, worked towards only one goal at a time.
