2016 NBA Draft mega thread

If they were competitive in the Playoffs I'd agree but they need every bit of talent and asset pieces they can get. If they somehow come out of this with just 1 or even 0 wins and no Draft picks, that is a pretty empty year. Kind of a waste of a Lillard season when he is entering his prime.
Would you rather have an above average team with a pick next season or a below average team with a late lottery pick and no pick next season?

To those of you who say we should've gotten the pick, the difference in talent between a 44 win team and 36 win team isn't covered by a late lotto pick. This team overproducing put us in a better position (regardless of the benefits of playoff experience) than an underperforming team.

IF ANYTHING, we saved a year of Dames prime, as we're a year further along the player development curve than we would be if we missed the playoffs.

Players playing better is always a positive than the alternative scenario of them playing worse. They need more talent and assets, yes, but more talent resulted in change of when we acquire said assett. How is that bad?

Yall overvalue the difference of having a pick in 2016 instead of 2017 versus having a pick in 2017 instead of 2016. So much so, that you view acceleration in player development and talent as a negative.

I think it's pretty much a sure thing that he drops out.

It's rare to see a 24 y/o picked in the first round.

First, he'll be 23 until December.
Second, Taj Gibson turned 24 days after he was drafted. (But yes, it's rare.)
Third, good to see the Jeanne and Payton bandwagons are picking up members.

Pure upside Jeanne is the most intriguing center in this draft.

He's years away. If you think Vonleh is raw.....

At the same age he has nearly the same build as Nedzad Sinonovic - 7'3" 210 lbs. But he is the age of a HS senior. Whomever is lucky enough to land him they have to be extremely patient.

Jeff Van Gundy said that Mathew Dellavedova will get a 10+million dollar contract next season.

Jeanne with the identical whathaveyou that Crabbe has.

Did Jeanne enter the draft? He would be a great target if Portland could find a late round pick for cheap.

POR is getting a few breaks here with some guys who previously were thought to not be in next year's draft actually going to be there.

Fuck!

Smart on his part though. One more year of development will take him from a mid-first this year to a top-10 guy next year IMO. Remember, Porsingis would've been a mid-first had he stayed in the 2014 draft. Went back, added 10 lbs to his frame and polish on his jumper and skyrocketed his stock.

In light of this news I'm back on the Zubac bandwagon. I'd prefer Sabonis but he's way out of reach. Neil would have to trade a core guy to get into the lotto.

What are your thoughts on the other foreigners in the draft this year? Any good draft & stash prospects?

Im intrigued with Ante Zizic and Petr Cornelie.

We don't even have a draft pick this year though. And you never know what could happen next year. Dame could get hurt and we could be back in the lotto.

The biggest riser in DX's updated blog - Tyler Ulis.

With our pick that goes to Denver.

Micro CP3.

Sounds like Zubac will likely pullout. He's just testing the waters. Well, at least we'll have our pick next year when Zubac and Jeanne could be had.

Trade for Ulis or bust.

I wonder how big (if any) an impact Philly having all these first round picks had on some of these guys.

All it takes is somebody who follows the league to know what a shitty situation that could end up being.

You sure man? I didn't see a single nut shot in that highlight vid.

Joking aside...

Ulis has elite intangibles and court vision. The only reason why he's not a top-5 pick is obviously due to his size - his standing reach would be the shortest ever in DX's database for a first round pick.

Ulis is currently rising on all three big mock drafts - most have him a mid-first guy and he could very well rise into the late lotto.

I've coached a lot of great leaders and great point guards in all my years of coaching. Tyler Ulis is the best floor general that I've ever coached,” Calipari said. “What I loved is he grew into that position. You couldn't speed him up and you couldn't slow him down unless he wanted to do one of those things. He coached the team this season as much as I did, and I'm proud to say that."

That might be a bit over the top, but even if it is, Calipari hits the essence of Ulis' game on the head. The 5-foot-9 point guard is the consummate leader on the floor, one of the guys that other players love to have on the floor. This season, he took over and became one of the most effective players in college basketball. He averaged 17.3 points and seven assists per game for the Wildcats this season on his way to being named a first-team All-American, SEC player of the year, and SEC defensive player of the year.

I know NBADraft.net is not the end-all, be-all in terms of mock drafts, but they have Ulis going No. 35 in their latest update (4/25).
